Oh & 1 final note: Take a leaf out of the "back of beyond Farmer/Off-roader's trick". That of applying the handbrake "partially" - to have a far better balance, between the two rear wheels, providing you with a mediocre ANTI-SPIN mode. (for ensuring that both back wheels won't independently spin) It's the best way to add a diff lock to the back wheels, when you don't have a diff locker there, as locking JUST the center diff makes the Front act like a second Rear end, which sadly still has an open diff, meaning that if one wheel on BOTH axles loses grip, the vehicle will act as if it were a 2wd car "spinning one wheel". In other words, CENTER DIFF LOCK doesn't give you full 4wd but a "misnamed" dual 2wd. (being the same as if it was just a 2wd axle - at each end of the vehicle). True 4x4 4wd LOCKS ALL DIFFS, so that every wheel turns if any spin, Which is extremely difficult to do until the belly of the vehicle's bodywork becomes high centered, (at which time you really are stuck - on/in mud, or on/in any other ground surface).
In case of stuck in the mud... try to break a little bit... so the standing tires will move again and you will get out. Driving the same car and i wouldn't have those problems. ;-)
Or, How to NOT get stuck in mud in your 4x4 crossover SUV ? 0:12 Yes 1st Put it into 4WD-Lock = center diff lock (it's not full "proper" all 3 diffs locked, in low range 4wd - but it'll do for now), 2nd MOVE the traction Control Setting from on to OFF (it's a little used button somewhere on the dash, called traction control which basically means the car deliberately brakes a wheel from spinning - which you do NOT need the brakes to be used for, so turn it off and a little warning light will go on in the dashboard, telling you - yep it's OFF); 3rd AIR DOWN (to approx. half of the normal "on-road" high speed running - tire pressure) 4th ... Put in it manual sport mode, and select gear number 1, and DO NOT UPSHIFT, (which the car may try to do, so keep half an eye on the gear setting & immediately PADDLE DOWN if the gearing changes automatically on you) 5th Take the self-recovery gear along for the ride, &.. Take deep breath as YOU WILL GET STUCK at some stage of trying to get stuck. 6th. NEVER EVER sit there with the pedal to the metal, (when spinning the only grip you had UNDER your tires, until you remove enough to become hi-centered, meaning a wheel will NEVER grip again as it stays above the ground on that axle, and often people continue to spin the begezus out of the remaining wheel - until it too has no grip left when it too becomes hi-centered) AS SOON AS YOU KNOW YOUR WHEELS HAVE STARTED SPINNING, "remove your foot off the accelerator", and see if there is any grip left? If there is, let the vehicle slowly IDLE to self-extract itself, in whichever is the best direction - normally that will be in reverse) If you have zero traction and the car doesn't move. STOP IT and find a tree or rock or use a sand/ground spade attachment for your winch (you did bring it didn't you) - to allow you to self recover whilst also letting the car idle out. Finally, DO IT AGAIN, and again and.. Until you have figured out how far you should "push/send" it, before it will get stuck next time, whereupon you have learnt both your capabilities and that of your vehicle. NOW - go forth and (try to) NEVER get mudstuck again, as next time, you could be too far away from mobile phone coverage, or too far "off-track" to be seen by anyone passing, so a LONG, cold and possibly difficult walk home will be your only option, the NEXT TIME you get mudstuck.
