The soothing sounds of a maniac with a mechanical keyboard.
Subbed.
🤣🤣🤣
@@LunarKolony I’ve been binging your videos btw. Thanks for all the entertainment, I love all the little builds. I used to build huge ships (not as bad as SAGE lol) but now am more pragmatic.
I, too, love to hear people's design decisions - whether they are building a ship or a base. The "why" they choose to this over that. The thought logic behind it. I feel it helps me be a better builder. Thanks for all your efforts!
I'm using this ship as inspiration for my first ever large grid ship, thanks.
Good luck!!
i always love seeing how drastically different other ppls design decisions are. the amount of times i yelled in my head over what blocks to use where xD but in the end it turned out to be a pretty good lookin ship (paint job aside, pee hauler lol) well made
Thanks! I just like yellow cos it looks industrial
Yellow looks cool imo
Yellow looks great! The shape is also very nice. My ships look like flying bricks 🧱😂😂
I really enjoy watching the purpose-built machine videos. I always end up playing with friends who START a build like this but essentially end up attempting to build a flying base that does everything 😂 might be a good direction for the series too, delving into the options of purpose built ships. Could lead to some really interesting niches of SE
Build a "do it all" base with modules that merge block onto it. Be like a Voltron or Megazord ship
Thanks for the help I just started SE and this is gonna be my first ever large ship!
Here’s my own concept for a “mining hauler”.
It’d have the hangar space for at least 4 mining drones (can use scripts but it’d usually just be remote control).
The main two traits of this mining hauler is the large refinery system and the complicated conveyor system for the cargo.
Due to it being vanilla it’ll have multiple sorter blocks to send make sure ores can’t go into the main cargo bay and to send each ore type to their separate refineries while allowing ice and gases to go through the entire network.
The refinery bay is split into two sections. The first one handles the more common ores and uses speed modules. The second one handles more valuable ores like uranium and uses yield modules.
The conveyor sorters would be set so the hangar bay for the mining drones pushes ore into the refineries while letting ice and gases move freely.
The main cargo section pulls ingots from the refinery section, keeps ores (except ice?) out and allows free movement of gases. The main connectors for ship to ship and ship to station docking would be connected to this part of the network.
The conveyor line between the refinery section and the hangar bay would have some cargo containers as buffer storage.
The ship would have some moderate hydrogen storage for fuel and a few O2/H2 generators.
The reason for this complicated refinery system on the ship instead of just transporting the ore to a refinery base/station is because ingots are denser and take up less volume per kilogram (is that correct?) thus allowing the ship to transport a much higher amount of cargo.
Though if it’s too space/power intensive to fit a separate refinery section for more valuable ore then I would just have the valuable ores skip the refinery section and go to the main cargo section.
What do you think?
What I’ve found and kinda given up on is this type of ship winds up being MUCH larger than I want. Thus leading to thrust package issues, thus leading to either power or fuel issues (either gonna need lots of hydrogen tanks and production, or a couple large reactors leading to lots of uranium and space if you go ion). Then you start looking at well I need to produce stuff as well. Now you have to throw in assemblers. Can’t have stuff breaking without being able to make replacement parts. You wind up turning it into essentially a super carrier. Large hangar bay to keep your multiple support vehicles, lots of defenses cause you turn into a sitting duck. I’ve found modifying the LCCC in game turned into that kind of project and got so frustrated at the game cause my project kept getting bigger and bigger.
Its the design choices that makes other players ships so fascinating. Getting the "why" is indeed even more interesting.
And I get to study my own choices, as I listen to the little nerd in my heard screeching "No, NO0O! Timer block for auto door closers every 2 seconds!", or "docking helm in bridge pointing right to pilot ship sideways for docking!", or some other little detail. :)
Also in my head, once you said 'pretty heavy with all 3 large cargo full of ore'... my inner voice winced at the paltry (for me) reverse thrusters (My ships can always stop 50% faster than they can accel, and up is around 300%, because planets- and the 'oh crap' nose up emergency braking is like a Millennium Falcon landing)
I myself suck at building large ships. This was cool to watch dude.
17:39 man that’s a loud ass pigeon Luna you should be careful it doesn’t steel your SE plush! 😱
Also ship name suggestion “Mule” because it carries everything!
Awesome video, the profile on that ship looks fantastic. I love that type of rough industrial look. As a new SE player this type of video and your miner video are extremely helpful in getting building tips.
Great stuff! Thanks for making these sorts of videos.
No worries ! Nice to see you back buddy :)
This is exactly what I needed thank you so much!
for landing bays I like to put the connector on a piston. Extend the piston, dock, retract back into the bay.
loved the vid dude. I recently just started space engineers and helped heaps with the thruster pack idea, I'm planning to make a more a rounder version for something I'm planning
Nice build. I think my only suggestion would be to put a sorter on one of the connectors to rip the ore from the miner. Especially if you ever intended to use something like PAMs if you're strip mining asteroids.
your ships fit in with the vannila cargo ships and stations so well!
Thanx 4 ur vids. Very enjoyable. Keep up the gud work!!!😊
I always thought the Mining Carriage was a nice starting point with that connector on the front
that was so cool i am really struggling building ships but learning from videos like yours
I'm new to space engineers and these videos are a big help thanks mate
No problem ! Welcome:)
Love the new style 👌
thank you!
thanks for the tutorial, I always have problems to make the cabin.
Making airtight interiors is often more trouble than it's worth! :)
Those interior floors do look classy.....
I usually use the shapes of the cargo containers to design things, finding some way to involve its shape in the design. The problem is that i usually only ever build industrial ships so i kinda have a lot of trouble trying to build warships
Love it please keep it up
thank you!
I generally build the conveyor system and other systems before I put any armor on
i think the reason the strapping at 36:00 looked so funny to your eye had to do with tangents
I see about 3 problems with this ship
1) there’s no hydrogen storage, although just sub one cargo container for a hydrogen tank
2) there’s no big ore detector
3) no connector on the landing platform although that’s easily able to be hooked up
1) can replace one large cargo with a large hydro although it doesn't have many thrusters
2) wouldn't need one as I would personally park near an asteroid and take the small craft out, but extremely easy to add
3) again, extremely easy to add, but not needed with that mining ship as it has no ventral connector
@@LunarKolony sorry. I was tired I should’ve said, for my preferences. Most of my small ships I put a ventral connector as well, so I don’t have to dock, undock, then land. It’s just land once and done.
I prefer the big ore detector as I’d use it also as a scout ship for asteroids. And I always lose track of how much ice I have lol. I’ll have 200k in storage and check 20 minutes later and only used like 20k, then an hour later it’s all gone lol.
@@michaelbaumgarten605 absolutely, I prefer a bottom connector usually, just through I'd try somet new :)
@@LunarKolony can’t wait to see this on the workshop and tinker around with it. It’s like a smaller hydrogen version of the LCCC.
@@michaelbaumgarten605 I didn't plan on posting it tbh, but I think enough people want it so I will
I am impressed by your building skills. I build ships myself, but I mostly focus on combat capable craft.
Warships are very fun to build
@@LunarKolony if you wish, you are more than welcome to review my own craft.
I just started trying to build stuff and play survival…
I have owned this game for like 4 years.
Its looks like a train, awesome.
oh a new video lets see what knowledge he will grace us with
haha
Are you an Ion thrust enjoyer by any chance?
i hated the entire ship up until he added the white stripes then i thought “wow this ain’t half bad!”
only issue I could see is that it doesnt really have that much Hydrogen space especially not if its burning Hydrogen for electricity, idk might be that it is more then enough
can easily swap out a cargo container for a large hydro tank :)
Hydrogen goes pretty far when you're not in planet gravity. A simple script to cycle engines and batteries helps too.
for the thruster "cow?" link you could use paneling instead of a block to connect to two parts of the thruster cow link.
Not sure if anyone else noticed, but you severed the connectors in the airlock. when you placed the interior block in the centre, you took out the T-junction you had there, so the connectors dont work anymore, other than that, lovin the ship, not my colours, but still very nice.
Nice ship one thing I would have done different instead of railings in the airlock I would have put shelves in there that's it the rest looks great
Would you build next a "universal" carrier?
Really good looking vanilla looking ship LK... but one oppsy you accidently took out a Armor T-junction when placing flooring . Only thing different i would do is a ore detector where the Cam is.
Yeah I noticed that 😂😂 oops...
Awesome stuff are you going to post these to the workshop?
I admittedly use these live builds to come up with my own ships. Will admit the ugliness of only using three types of blocks bugged me. Light armor cube, light armor slope and light armor corner.
Paintgun mod... That also helps tremendously.
Followed your build and made my own. Ill try it out for a while then mabye post my alterations on the workshop.
Ive seen alot of humongous builds on the workshop with like 10-12 refineries. Seen lots of small grid miners. Not many compact refinery ships. So putting in a full refinery wojld be the first thing i change.
Do you know that you have 9 Hotbars in SE you can switch betwen them with CTRL 1-9
It's a good beastie.
man if only the full block air vents were a thing when the video was made...
have you seen the city build Aeroppa in the workshop? its seriously no joke 👍
Pretty neat ship, is there a workshop download? And for the miner as well
Correct me if I’m wrong, but did you add Hydrogen Tanks? Or are you just going to use the 02/H2 Generators?
Much more enjoyable to take over an enemy ship and modify it for these purposes.
That would've taken me days to build 😐 its a nice ship though
Can you post this on the steam workshop? I really want to use this in my survival world
I had totally forgotten about doing this in creative mode
Great video. Will this fly in atmosphere?
Wouldn't recommend with large cargo containers
Hey that's the miner (at start) in a mod emm or something it adds shops police n all that
I'm not sure what you're talking about, but I built that miner in a previous video on the channel :)
Will you upload this hauler and the miner on the workshop?
I mean if people actually want them I can
@@LunarKolony thanks
@@LunarKolonyI would love to snag this from the workshop 🧐
has this been uploaded to workshop?
can it land and take off from world?
Is this ship on the work shop?
How is that painting mod called.
you missed the large grid ore detector
Instructions unclear, need a new front door now
With this design is it possible to take the ship into orbit/earth
Maybe if you strapped some more downwards hydro thrusters, but I still wouldn't recommend
Made a larger grid hauler with more storage
One thing that bugged me all throughout are the windows, it hurts to look at
I noticed that you cut the piping for the connectors 29:52
Ah yes, easy fix tho
But the thrust is the hard part
It's been two week since i started playing SE, and i still don't understand why blast doors are used like that, and at this point, i'm too afraid to ask
It's purely for looks, they just have a nice shape for certain things
Are you left handed by any chance?
man i love this build but can i have some guns/weapons on the mining hauler because sometimes i can get unlucky. i told myself ''oh well its just 1 DLC what could be wrong'' i took a mistake then i took a arrow to the knee haha anyway hope you make more those videos and with biggers ships ''without dlc'' ofc but be slow i see you go too fast 😅 *hit that follow bottom*
Mining hauler? What does that mean exactly?
i think he explains that in the beginning of the video
hauls ore and ingots
@@LunarKolony gotcha.
@@LunarKolony my own idea was building a “refinery ship” or as you said it “mining hauler” with a complicated refinery section so the majority of its cargo is for ingots which are denser. Stuff like uranium would go into dedicated refineries with yield modules while more common ores would go into speed module refineries or something.
@@Cooldude-ko7ps one for stone would be good to.
A graphic scene 😂
Congratulations you made a flying pecker
lol you said no dlc then used a crap ton of deco and windows from the dlc
O shit yeah, sometimes I forget things are DLC jesus
@@LunarKolony no its fine I understand, I even just made yours in survival I loved it so much. And replaced it with normal parts which look just as good in my opinion (other than deco)
The more I watch, the more I see that this game really is just The Expanse: The Game
