OH MY GOODNESS! Thank you so much! We will 100% be filming a reaction for that soon! We have really struck and amazing band with an amazing fan-base here! I agree what you said the mind set we have toweds japanese music is anime theme but not all ,,they create own style, they have good foundation in music ,,but the delivered it in different way and mixing up genres pushing those genres incorporating them in a song
For sure! It's a mindset I try to avoid, but I've seen so much anime that it's the only strong way my mind is tied to Japan. One of my dreams is to visit there someday and really get immersed in their culture. I love this band a lot! I remember them being good way back when I heard them before, and I'm really happy someone mentioned them again! It's one of the main reasons we do these videos is to find all the cool people and music that are shared with us!
@@8equalsd_ofwGood point about the non-Japanese perceptual bias tho! Another aspect is how we tend to equate "high energy" with anime themes when there are plenty of softer ones. I have not hear anyone saying they're math-rock yet, but they definitely have prog moments... and they're all about using whatever musical tools exist to make better music. Great reaction!!!! New subscribed member now, so I welcome you to the Band Maid universe. You will love it here. Band Maid is completely incredible and you will discover why so many millions of us absolutely LOVE this band. I am in my seventies now and have heard all the great rock and metal bands from Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabath, Aerosmith to Guns N Roses. For so long I was stuck in the past in trying to listen to good music and then came Band Maid! Thank God for them. My life has been infused with a fresh wind of music. The best rock/metal band in the world today and the equal of all the great ones before them. A warm, warm welcome to you 8EQUALSD to the pigeon hole universe of Band Maid. You will love it here.
You checked out an old old track, might as well catch their latest, more metal-y song, “Protect You” (and yes it’s an anime intro). And don’t forget to catch a live song like the recent “Hate?” which has a lot more unexpected goodness (and def read follow the lyrics). Thanks!
Well, REAL EXISTENCE was written by Koji Goto with lyrics by Miwa Sasaki. But Kanami and other BAND-MAID members were always making each song truly their own. They always sound like BAND-MAID, no matter what, I agree.
Yes. Band-Maid is a rock-core band with pop sensibility combining elements of punk, metal (also funk, jazz, rap, hip-hop, blues, fork, country depending on the song) and from early on, they had touch of prog. Their music is becoming increasingly progressive these days. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of anime songs but some of their anime songs are unique and still has the unmistakable Band-Maid quirkiness in note choice, use of pause, Akane's colourful and melodic fills...there's so much to take in and enjoy that those bloody anime songs sometimes become my favourite!😂 About their sound, they definitely use traditional Japanese sound here and there, including the traditional pentatonic scale-influenced sound (in parts), they never do anything all way though. The drummer uses so many rhythmic patterns in one song, fast yet very fluid...I can't get enough of her. Kanami the lead guitarist - her playing style is so...one of a kind. Honestly, every member of this band has her unmistakable style and sound, the band embrace everyone's difference (individuality) to create their sound. Yolo (one is the most unique second verse) Sayonakidori (Akane's unique drumming), Giovanni (progressive masterpiece), Onset, Moratoriam, Wonderland (slower but one of their most complex composition) Their music is very addictive. You go through other great bands and come back to Band-Maid and realise how different their music is from other bands.
Wow! I absolutely love that you are 73 and have decided to kick it here with us on UA-cam! Super cool to have you! And I love that at that age, you are totally down to rock out! We hope you have the best of days! Be on the lookout for more BANDMAID in the future for sure!

Greetings and thank you from this 68 year old Band-Maid fan. Subscribed 😊 Welcome to the pigeon hole! You are going to be inundated with suggestions for more Band-Maid songs, along with Lovebites, Nemophila and Hanabie who are kind of the big four at the moment. But that's just a fraction of the great music coming out of Japan right now. Waiting in the wings are Bridear, Hagane, East of Eden, Unlucky Morpheus, Maximum the Hormone, Ningen Isu, Glim Spanky, Head Phones President, Hades, Scandal, and many others. Based on your math rock comments, I think you might enjoy tricot (pronounced tree-koh; try "Pork Ginger"), Sokoninaru (try "Tenohira De Odoru") or Asterism (try "Church" or "Dawn"). I can also recommend some great Korean bands if you are interested 🤘
There are many western and Japanese bands that influenced them and they play a wide range of styles. Their newer music tends to be more progressive and complicated. If you’re looking for math rock, other Japanese bands like tricot and Sokoninaru are a closer fit.

Rock has a long history in Japan. I think the biggest selling Japanese act of all time is B'z, which is a rock duo formed in the 80's. Any time you get something to splinter off, it can take on a life of its own, and that's more or less what that "anime" sound is. There are some chord progressions and drum patterns that are particularly popular in Japanese rock, but it's hard to know what it is that you're hearing that makes you think of anime. I never recommend this song as an introduction to Band-Maid, because they're really serious musicians and that series of smiling shots in this video makes me kind of cringe, and I'm always scared I'm going to give people the wrong impression about why I like them. But it's also just not one of my favorites. They're primarily a live band, so it would be good to check out one of their official live videos on their channel. Their lead vocalist, especially, tends to put in some extra power for a live crowd, and they often throw in special arrangements for the fans that come out to see them. Like extra solos and stuff. If you want a good recent live, check out Hate?.
Only reason I would not use Real Existence as an introduction is because it was not written by the band. I could point to it as an example of how tight a group they are musically. All those stops and starts adds to the song: lurches like a cursor on a screen. And I would rather see smiling faces versus scowling or angry. Cringe to me are the half naked female pop performers today, or the male lead singers in their leather costumes.
Totally get it! They are obviously cute as hell, and that could easily be the focus of that video, but we appreciate music first! We will definitely be diving deeper into them in the future and have it in are heads now that they very much need to be heard live when possible. I think that "Anime" sound I described is probably really a silly thing to think, but it's jus the nerd in me, having only lived in Texas my whole life, hearing a combination of pretty JP vocals along with catchy, fluffy, and creative little guitar parts and making a connection. I remembered having the thought a long time ago when I first heard a BANDMAID song, and figured it might come up again, so I just got it out of the way XD Thanks for the comment and the info! We look forward to more and more of this band!
Great reaction and interesting and insightful comments (new sub based on you comments). If you want an in-depth explanation about Japanese rock, I recommend the interview with Marty Friedman (of Megadeth) and Rick Beato about Japanese rock and why it's so different and progressive compared to US rock. Marty moved to Japan in 2003 (his wife is Japanese) saying that Japan was where the most interesting and progressive rock music was being created - here's the link - ua-cam.com/video/N_SHZkqsIDQ/v-deo.html Thanks for reacting to Band-Maid and as a hint, their live performances are sooooooooo much better. You're welcome
AHH! Thank you so much for that! We love music knowledge. It's always more than just the music! We are hearing over and over that we need their live stuff! XD We will keep that in mind, and it's honestly our preferred content anyway! Really showcases a band's talent when you see them perform! Thanks again!
Just wondering if those in the WEST actually realize how many Anime (thus Anime songs either OP or ED) their are and how DIVERSE those are so in fact ALL MUSIC could be called Anime sounding from Blues, Jazz, Metal, Rock and Rap to Classical of ANY culture or region. In fact most of the Anime I watch has POP songs that would not be out of place on a Taylor Swift album or Justin Timberlake, so saying Japanese rock IS ANIME is sooooooo narrow minded.
Thank you for nice reaction. I recommend Live "Turn Me On" (Zepp Tokyo) ua-cam.com/video/4q5rHaYrKr8/v-deo.html "DICE" (MV) & "YOLO" (MV) ua-cam.com/video/ZpAYnVJX9CY/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/wKZbzcUdY1g/v-deo.html "On set" (Live) ua-cam.com/video/mVrN-j_Uc0U/v-deo.html "Don't you tell ME" (Live) ua-cam.com/video/q7VqI6yas_o/v-deo.html and FREEDOM (Official Live Video) ua-cam.com/video/FHpuEqMAcDg/v-deo.html another recommends All Female Heay-MetalBand [LOVEBITES]
The LIVE version is even better, like Way Better! Go back and do the LIVE version! Also, not a set. That's a real temple! And BAND-MAID has Anime Theme Songs. They even have a Music Video where they appear in anime form. It's called 'Unleash'. As well as commissions, like 'Shambles' for the Netflix anime, Kengan Ashura.MISA is a Bad Ass! She is the Bad Ass Barefoot Bass Assassin! Make time for more BAND-MAID! They have so many influences, Hendrix, Santana, Smashing Pumpkins, Sheena Ringo. But they don't exactly sound like anyone, except themselves. So many different songs.
First, this version of the official "Real Existence" MV is one of the worst choices you could have made as an introduction to Band-Maid's catalog, the live version of "Real Existence" is MUCH BETTER, in fact almost any live song by Band-Maid would have been a better choice. Second, respectfully, could you give me some examples of bands you call "anime music". I really want to destroy your misconceptions about j rock/metal... the following links lead you to Japanese bands that DO NOT SOUND LIKE ANIME.😉 NEMOPHILA, "Oiran": ua-cam.com/video/5qABnfChpbk/v-deo.htmlsi=eu5AmocyN7Na5T8D UNLUCKY MORPHEUS, "Dignity of Spirit": ua-cam.com/video/x7W9DcUKY_U/v-deo.htmlsi=YhR2iI_BeNCcpauH ANTHEM, "Empty Eyes": ua-cam.com/video/gnLI6ZPMluU/v-deo.htmlsi=5Mr8DYTslyUOGQ9E ONMYOUZA, Suite "Nine Tails ~ Killing Stone": ua-cam.com/video/cFLu00OMd9c/v-deo.htmlsi=c6mB08OiuTb4luqO WAGAKKI BAND, "Chie No Cajitsu + Somosan Seppa": ua-cam.com/video/OaC6ZY0KYVc/v-deo.htmlsi=6CoNnAnJHvrdAvUR GALNERYUS, "Destiny": ua-cam.com/video/qIuB1dXW_HQ/v-deo.htmlsi=SXeeuen7MgVqfwrB LOVEBITES, "Holly War": ua-cam.com/video/bgAxpEpEcno/v-deo.htmlsi=f3DywULyvuJHs2pl ☺👍
Well, most of my association with Japanese music is within the realm of math rock like this ua-cam.com/video/FkqIegC3tPE/v-deo.html or ua-cam.com/video/TO-2DErkmus/v-deo.html since that's where I really discovered it. Through high school, it was constantly weird little emo/math rock/prog bands, so there were a ton that would just come on with that vibe, but I can't remember a ton, especially because most of the names were JP. Honestly, it feels wrong to generalize like that, which I mentioned, but as a HUGE anime nerd and a lover of the music, it's not hard to make the association. It's definitely not a bad thing in my book, but ya know, I don't wanna force anyone or anything into a box. Just clicking a few of those links you dropped, I can definitely hear they are outside of that realm, but I never assumed there weren't Japanese bands that didn't sound that way either. Just having heard BandMaid before, I knew that was a vibe they could give me at times. Thanks for the awesome metal songs too! Can't wait to dig into this stuff!

Yolo (one is the most unique second verse) Sayonakidori (Akane's unique drumming), Giovanni (progressive masterpiece), Onset, Moratoriam, Wonderland (slower but one of their most complex composition)
Their music is very addictive. You go through other great bands and come back to Band-Maid and realise how different their music is from other bands.
Thank you for reacting to BAND-MAID. A word of advice, LIVE! watch their live performances for their UA-cam channel.
This song is about 8-9 yrs old you have only 130 to go, best rock band this 73 yr old has ever seen and I've seen them all.
Wow! I absolutely love that you are 73 and have decided to kick it here with us on UA-cam! Super cool to have you! And I love that at that age, you are totally down to rock out!
We hope you have the best of days! Be on the lookout for more BANDMAID in the future for sure!
You two look so beautiful together
Worth remembering that a lot of well-established Japanese bands are asked to provide anime music.
Good reaction. Thnx
8EQUALSD , Welcome to BAND-MAID , Enjoy your journey down the Pigeon hole , MISA !!! MISA !!! MISA !!! the Barefoot Bass Assassin , next song Domination offical live video .
Y'all and Band-Maid are almost to much Kawaii!
AWWWWWW!
There are many western and Japanese bands that influenced them and they play a wide range of styles. Their newer music tends to be more progressive and complicated. If you’re looking for math rock, other Japanese bands like tricot and Sokoninaru are a closer fit.
🤘🕊️🦍🥷👸🏻👀PO!
I was going to say I don't do math, but then I reconsidered your channel name and realized we'd all be expected to do math.
Nice reaction.
Well now you've done it!

I discovered *BAND-MAID* in 2019 and came to a realization that *BAND-MAID* more then just a rock band they are a band that does not have any boundaries and is willing experiment into different genre from (Blues, Rock, Punk and Jazz) and a lot of fans including me would say “you got to check out their live videos” from:
2017-STUDIO COAST
2018-Zepp Tokyo
2020-LINE CUBE SHIBUYA
2021-BAND-MAID ONLINE ACOUSTIC
In the end I realize that *BAND-MAID* more then just a band but a band that cares about each other and their fan base and in October of 2022 I had a fortune of experiencing them live and with that *BAND-MAID* cemented their Legacy into my heart. Rock On! 🤘

I remembered having the thought a long time ago when I first heard a BANDMAID song, and figured it might come up again, so I just got it out of the way XD
Thanks for the comment and the info!
XD
We will keep that in mind, and it's honestly our preferred content anyway!

I think it's progressive rock on a punk base! It's a great song whatsoever. But the main question are...how high are you two?
When you listen to Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin, do you have any associations with Mickey Mouse or Tom and Jerry?
Nope lol
React to thalapathy videos ❤
First, this version of the official "Real Existence" MV is one of the worst choices you could have made as an introduction to Band-Maid's catalog, the live version of "Real Existence" is MUCH BETTER, in fact almost any live song by Band-Maid would have been a better choice.
Second, respectfully, could you give me some examples of bands you call "anime music".
I really want to destroy your misconceptions about j rock/metal... the following links lead you to Japanese bands that DO NOT SOUND LIKE ANIME.😉

Well, most of my association with Japanese music is within the realm of math rock like this ua-cam.com/video/FkqIegC3tPE/v-deo.html
or ua-cam.com/video/TO-2DErkmus/v-deo.html since that's where I really discovered it.
Thanks!
