Attempting some of these "someone in the comments" explanations: * Side note: blue/boss test dummies appear to take only 20% projectile damage. (Spark Bolt's 3 damage = 0.6 on dummy.) * Another side note: a couple great tools for helping learn/check/understand Divide By stuff: Wand Dbg mod, Noita Wand Simulator site. * Wand with just Divide By 4, Modifier, Projectile --- this gives 5 modifiers + 1 projectile. (5*10 - 15 + 3 = 38 projectile damage = 7.6 on dummy.) * Wand Refresh only works once per cast; second time it'll discard everything and disable wrapping. * Doesn't look like you're hitting the iteration limit. Instead, it looks like damage difference from reordering is due to different numbers of different Divide By damage penalties being applied and/or different numbers of modifiers being applied. E.g., (with Unlimited Spells) Divide By 4, Divide By 10, Spark Bolt would apply Divide By 4's penalty once, and Divide By 10's penalty 4 times; Divide By 10, Divide By 4, Spark Bolt would apply Divide By 10's penalty once, and Divide By 4's penalty 10 times. With modifiers, it's messier: D4 D10 Damage Plus Spark Bolt gives 1 D4 penalty, 5 D10 penalties, 21 Damage Plus applications, 1 Spark Bolt; D10 D4 Damage Plus Spark Bolt gives 1 D10 penalty, 11 D4 penalties, and only 9 Damage Plus applications. (If you hit iteration limit, it disables draw completely --- very useful for avoiding some headaches! But you'd need a Double Spell before the Divide Bys to actually attach the modifier to the Spark Bolt. But you may need to use larger damage modifiers to offset the repeated penalties that are being applied to draw-cancel.) * Wand Refresh helping in the first example vs. not helping in the second. With just a single Divide By 4 spell, you can probably just think of this as having 2 excess draw after the Spark Bolt. Without Wand Refresh: the first example won't have anything left to draw, while in the second example, it will have only the Square Barrier to draw (all the other spells are in the hand already). With Wand Refresh: the first example will draw Wand Refresh + sort of recast the wand, so you get double the damage modifications and double the Spark Bolts; second example will draw Wand Refresh + the Square Barrier, producing the same modifications and projectiles as without. [Edited to change reordering example to one where there's actually a numerical difference. Edited to note projectile damage modifier is for boss dummy, and to add some more relevant discussion regarding reordering divides and modifiers.]
Yea the reordering was more to show how simple but un-intuitive changes cause issues. The iteration limit was when it dropped to zero (might have cut that part). All good stuff! Thanks!
I think one of the most easy ways to use it is on greek letters like sigma, I also like to use it on spels like healing bolt because it doesn't lose it's value
Man, I really wish this had some useful info in it. Basically “you’re all too stupid to use this, I’m not gonna bother explaining it, just copy stuff.” Thanks bud.

The best 'Noita Divide by spells explained' video. Thanks a lot, sir.

is it not much better to use divide by on add trigger?
