That one scene where Glinda announces that she is going to “change” her name. And Takes A Bow as like people are applauding is hilarious. Ariana played quickly and silly like that really well throughout. But you can also feel that genuine care her character has for Elpheba. And Cynthia and Elpheba man! CHILLS every time I heard her sing. But also, when she needs to play a thought provoking or dramatic scene, she can. Very well. If this movie does not get at least nominated for Best production design, costume design, and hair and make up. I don’t think we are living in reality. The lighting was good I thought. It payed homage to the original Shows esthetic I think. And overall just helped me feel more invested in everyone’s story lines. And helped me understand more of the motives of the characters. The Stage show felt rushed to me, and this film definitely adds to the story in ways that worked. Which made the meaning of some songs hit harder for me even. Overall, I really liked it. One of my favorites of the year
Hi Brittany! The Wizard of Oz did actually lose money in its initial release in 1939 because of how expensive it was, in 30s money, and it was going up against Gone With the Wind which was just blowing everything else out of the water. Keep in mind this was back when there were no multiplexes so a movie only had one screen to play on. It ended up making money on rereleases and then once it hit TV in the 50s and 60s it became a juggernaut Thanksgiving film every year. I mean they say that millions watched the film every year because they had to wait a year each time for it and that was back when TVs were only in B&W. Just imagine what kids who grew up having to watch that film in black and white felt when color TVs came along and they got to finally see that famous transition!! I mean jaws had to hit the floor!
@@Brittney_Reacts_ Another fun fact is the reason The Wizard of Oz got made at all at the time. We can all thank Walt Disney. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was such a huge sensation in 1937 that Louis B. Mayer asked his people to find anything that could potentially reach that level and Mervyn LeRoy, who was brand new in an executive position at the time, immediately suggested The Wizard of Oz. The making of the film is a… drama all its own.
I have always wanted to see the musical when it first came out & still have not had a chance BUT.. it will be in LA in December so I’m going right away! Then I will watch the movie later. I love musicals. 😂😂😂
my Little People rant aside though.... I actually did really like this movie, and I haven't seen the musical or read the book or anything. it grew on me, I loved all the details. and I think I want to see it again. and I'm hyped for the second part.
I've never seen the show and I'm not into musicals, but I loved the movie. I was enthralled the whole time and wanted to clap after every number. My audience did applaud at the end.
The movie was sensational, a modern masterpiece! I’m seeing it for the second time tomorrow! There is so much going on it’s hard to grasp in one viewing, not to mention all the hidden Easter eggs in the anticipation of part two
Hiring little people as munchkins has been seen as offensive even before Peter D. The 2013 Disney movie ' Oz The Great And Powerful' also portrayed the munchkins as taller people. Also in the books munchkins are taller than little people.
I'm kind of an Oz nerd, because I grew up reading all of the Oz books, and the munchkins were actually much smaller than adult humans and were about the same height as Dorothy was. They weren't super tiny, but definitely not tall, at all.
Yea i'm not gunna lie i'm not super familiar with the books, 😖but I heard someone else say the munchkins greatly vary in size recently. probably could have left that part out, but the first part still stands! 😖
@@WalterAlter999 There is a description of them in the books and they are described as being Dorothy's size and she was a child when she arrived there, although her age isn't specificially stated. She was somwhere between 8 and 12 years old. They ween't teeny tiny, but they were much shorter than avegage adult humans.
speaking of the absence of Little People as Munchkins, which bothered me too. it didn't help that the previews for this movie included a preview for the live action remake of Snow White. I heard some time back that when Dinklage heard Disney was doing a live action remake of Snow White, that he understandably went off, like, hey, why are we reinforcing these negative stereotypes now in present day ... but I also heard that there was some pushback from some other Little People in Hollywood saying that they wanted Disney to keep the dwarves so that Little People could actually have jobs. (and there have been some fantastic Little People dwarf or dwarfesque characters that come to mind like Acorn in 10th Kingdom and of course my favorite the Time Bandits...) but anyways... so at first I heard that after Dinklage expressed outrage that Disney would still do these hurtful Dwarf stereotypes, I heard that Disney was going to scrap the dwarf thing and do some other kind of fantastical creature/being instead. but then I just saw the trailer. and it pissed me off because I think it did the worst possible solution to piss off people, by both keeping the dwarf stereotypes and amping that up AND having the dwarves be CGI when all the other characters are live action, thus now both stereotyping Little People AND denying them jobs. and then we went right from that into this movie where the munchkins weren't Little People and I just thought about how we hired more Little People for jobs almost a hundred years ago than now....
I hate musicals but this one is an exception I really enjoyed it I’d even watch it again I was trying so hard not to sing now I know how all the theatre kids feel.🤣 I’m exited for part 2. Wicked and Speak No Evil are my movies of the year!

Ariana Grande is the same age as Kristin Chenoweth was when the play first premiered she’s fine. And Cynthia Erivo perfectly pulled off Elphaba
"This week people are taking the words of Brittney Reacts and really holding space with that, and feeling power in that--"
Imagine trying to explain that scene to your friends. We’d sound insane 😭😭

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and weren't disappointed - so many moves lately are a total let down, and it's nice to hear that this one isn't. 💚💗💚💗💚
It was really good!
@@Brittney_Reacts_ I was on the fence about seeing it, but I trust your opinion 100 per cent and want to see it now.
Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande were so phenomenal as Elphaba & Glinda! Wicked is my favorite musical movie of this year! They nailed every single song!

You could’ve also mentioned it came out the same year Hitler invaded Poland, so yeah, those people saying this political kind of dumb 😒

Noo UA-cam didn't notify me and I missed the stream! The sadness is real. Watching it right now
same gurl. same
Me too!
I saw the notification afterward 😢
Just a thought! Since munchkins are people from Munchkinland which is where Elphaba and Nessa are from so maybe some munchkins can be big!😉
Hopefully this is a HUGE boost for live-action fantaay musicals, and live-action musicals in general (that aren't remakes, Disney).
Been waiting for this! 💚💗

Its ALWAYS the millennial pause that brings me back to this channel ❤🔥
It’s not a millennial pause. I have to start my intro first
@ can’t believe you saw my comment 💀 love your channel no shade 🙏🏼
Damn would’ve loved to have been a part of this saw the movie yesterday it was great!!! ❤❤❤
Fun fact the guy who lets Elphaba and Glinda in was Stephen Schwartz, the composer!
Had to come back here after watching the film! 🙌🏾
Sounds pretty good, can't wait to watch it
it was soo good, i already want to watch it again! aha
I'm not a wicked fan. But, I gonna watch it and I gonna like it.
Honestly, I think both the book and the musical despite the differences between them is the concept of a villain retelling done right 🥹
I’ll watch back this stream after I see it tonight!! But I’m very excited 💚🩷
