For the intermediates out there; Another way to add resistance in a windrow or pile to fill the bucket is to pull the stick in and move laterally. Basically filling the bucket on a 45 degree angle. Not to get too into geometry here but the that angle will always have a longer stroke distance than a perfectly straight windrow. Great vid man keep up the good work!

Great tip brother and you beat me to the punch! I have a video coming out in the next week or two that talks about picking up concrete without a thumb and I talk about this exact move.

Once the pile I'm pulling from isn't as tall as the bucket, this is the way I take every scoop. Feels so good 😅😂

Got to love the physics of heavy equipment operating. 100% on point, If you add tamping the top of the windrow you will add more resistance. This take time and patients don't rush this and it turns out great every time. I use the hole method all the time when I tie in trenches in areas I can't dig straight out.

Nice work. It takes a special kind of guy to willingly put your techniques on display for every operator to nit pick. If these guys are so amazing at their jobs. Why watch your basic training vids?
Nothing wrong with your teaching here in my opinion. I would like to add my 2 cents tho.
After you establish your windrow. Use the bucket to compress the loose material for added resistance for pick up.
Most of our jobs out here are rough graded, then storm, sanitary, water, then dry utility side cast. So we have to recreate grade after each system is installed. Some going into fills. Some stockpiled for future job phasing etc.

Good video once again do you think once you get your hands on it you could do a review on the case dl550 / compact dozer & put it through it paces on land clearing or grading project would love to see the rippers & the performance

    • @DieselandIron

It will be a bit until I'm able to get my hands on a unit where I'm able to do a full review. That being said, it is in the works. I have an upcoming trip to the Tomahawk facility to run the DL550 but it will be at their proving grounds so I can't put it through "real world" paces. I'm working to get an actual review done ASAP.
