October 24, 2020 Saturday. I drive a 2015 Nissan MICRA. I watched your rear brake shoes replacement and spark plugs replacement (replace at 100,000 Km) videos before this video. The TORQUE info and SOCKET SIZE info are excellent. The step by step repair/maintenance process videos are awesome. Need to buy: Dielectric sealant, mini Brass wire brush, 6 inch aluminum nail (file flatten the sharp end like a slot screw driver to be used as a rust scraper), Thread locker, Ceramic extreme brake lubricant, Anti-seize lubricant, rubber mallet (hub nut cap job), brake cleaner, breaker bar (2loosen bolts or nuts), Torque wrench (2properly tighten bolts or nuts), and etc. The videos are A1 the top best of all the vehicle repair maintenance videos I watched to date. The savings!!! Thank you so much.

Thank you for everything really professional. I like the torque specs and the trick of turning the wheel to the side makes the job so much easier. The caliper screws were hard to get out the 1/2 breaker bar suggestion was on point.

@@themechanic6117 I do have one question. Should any brake lubricant be used on the tips of the pad spring clips where they meet the pads, and between the hardware clips and the pads themselves? I've heard before that any unlubricated metal-on-metal can cause audible squealing when braking.
The problem with adding lubricants is over time the lube collects dirt/dust and that will cause its own problems. When you buy a car brand new the factory doesnt apply lube in those areas and you can go years without any noise. Lube on the caliper piston and where the caliper touches the pads. Is something I do do.
The only issue I have with your video is that front and rear brakes for a Nissan Versa note are different. This will help me figure out how to replace my front brakes, though.
Yes if you can't properly control a file I would stay away from it and use a wire brush. Your are correct though,be careful with a file and don't use an aggressive one
No dialectic grease for the pins , use silicone, it can take high temperatures, dialectic for electric. between the wheel and disc i don't think you need anti seize, only when the wheel are aluminum

You don't need to but people with older brakes need to inspect the caliper boot and what part of the piston they can see by pulling the boot gently away from the piston. NEVER wash brake parts with soap and water unless you thoroughly air dry and even then I wouldn't because water penetrates tiny pores. Brake cleaner evaporates and water breeds rust. And NO to the thread locker on any mounting bolts-- unless you mean thread lubricant-- these are the bolts that typically seize up. Put a bit of anti-seize the threads and they'll be good, trust me they won't get loose. Put some also on the ends of the pads that contact the slider clips. You can use copper or silver anti-seize on the sliders, don't need special grease. We were taught to lightly lube all bolt threads. Saves getting the torches out next time. Retired Class A Honda and Toyota tech here-- much more experienced than this chap who still did a pretty good job.

We forgot to replace the set of spring clips you remove as one of the first steps on one set of brake pads. My father and uncles said it wasn't an issue. What's your opinion on that? I'm a bit concerned since I don't want it to lead to some issue later.Everything seems normal so far.
It may cause some brake squeaking and maybe slight uneven wear. I've seen many cars without them. It's always best to put things how they belong but really it's not a huge deal. Make sure you replace them the next time you go in there.
No it’s been really cold that’s it. I’m usually pretty smart when it comes to cars and this is stumping me. It’s almost like a bushing has broke loose and it’s clunking.
Good video but you over torqued carrier bolts. Its 85nm not lbft! 85nm is around 62lbft. Doublecheck the service manual. Same with slider pins it should be 27-28nm not lbft.
@@themechanic6117 I tried it with it on just now, and it was harder to compress the piston. I then went to the other side and removed the cap, the passenger side was a lot easier to compress. Overall your video was great and i was done with both sides in under 30 mins. Thanks for the video. I believe I have a nearing going on on the belt pulley, it squeals when i accelerate. Do you have a video covering that?
Yes removing the cap does make it easier to press in . glad you got it done . yes i have a video on removing the serpentine belt and inspecting for noise
Do you just simply pump the brakes after the car in on the ground? Do you take the lid off the master cylinder, I know you don’t bleed antilocks anymore unless it’s done with a computer at a shop?
My versa is making a clunk when I tap the brakes if I tap again it don’t but as soon as I accelerate then tap it does it again! Checked brakes they look fine????? Scratching head!
Oh I forgot to mention we spent an extra hour and removing the front fender to look for the brake fluid reservoir cap, ;) I should have put it in my pocket lol
Kept watching and suggest using a brass rod to act as a hanger for the caliper. An s shaped hanger will do the trick and keep the caliper from dangling on the line and out of the way. Just mind it if you turn the wheel.

I luckily have a jack that came with my car, so I can pop the hubcap and remove the lug nuts and jack it up just by opening my trunk.

Only way to know for sure is to take it to a shop

What happens if you don't torque the bolts? I don't know what are the torque specifications of my car.
It's just to ensure you don't leave the bolts loose and you don't over tighten them and possibly break something

Look up service manuals for your specific car online

It's not a hard kink and it temporary. Won't cause any issues at all

+1DoPeS14 no you shouldn't to remove anything to remove the rear drum. Just take the wheel off and make sure your emergency brake isn't on.
