The installer requires you to disable defender (the option doesn't effect that), what the option does is it allows you to renable it after installing. I showed the option off because it is the main tweak that will make atlas faster than say CTT's tool, and is also very dangerous for security. I was curious how much of an impact it would have.

You say that AtlasOS is insecure, but you disabled the thing that makes it secure? If you kept it on the recommended setting to keep Windows Defender, then Defender would have caught the malware (assuming Defender knew it was malware to begin with, and if it didn't then a normal Windows machine could also be infected as well). Windows just refuse to load/crash sometimes ( error code : video_dxgkrnl_fatal_error ) 3. Some packages won't update and still use the older version 4. eventually gets buggy ( ik, blame windows but certain apps like terminal won't bother opening in some cases which is annoying )

atlas is fine. meant for gaming not security. also u can turn it back on in a folder. The os is completely fine and its completely only meant for gaming. for people who prioritize games and only games, (no cheats etc) this is fine. If you are using cheats, atlas breaks many things. if a person is using shady valorant cheats (not known to be legit in the community) then they themselves are already screwing them selves up. Im not necessarily saying I disagree with you but I think many of the points your making don't align with atlas's targeted use case. Overall great video but I do disagree with alot of your points. The title is also quite misleading, saying that you shouldnt use atlas when in reality its completely fine but it's up to the user with what they do with it.
No it's fucking not, windows is closed source, atlas "open source" is just fucking bloat they included, oh and btw they could even hide a spyware in that os without telling you❤
@@cool-jd8hg prove that Atlas is "bloat", then? and "hide a spyware in that OS"???? what do you mean, if that was true everyone around the Net would've talked about it, especially since Atlas is open-source, and independent people can just check the source code all the time.
Wouldn't you install a real security software like Bitdefender or Kaspersky anyways? I mean if you're going through the trouble of custom windows in the 1st place.
You have deactivated all windows security measures on purpose. What you've done can be done on any version of Windows with or without AtlasOS... Configuring AtlasOS correctly is just as secure as Windows 11 (Okay maybe a little less secure, but still nothing like what this video shows). This video makes no real sense. It's like reviewing two cakes and leaving one out in the rain for a week beforehand. Of course one will be better than the other... This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Or he's deliberately setting the worst possible scenario for AtlasOS... but why?
I've been using AtlasOS for almost 10 months now, and I'm glad I did. I installed it on my personal desktop, family desktop, and personal laptop. So far, my family and I are loving it.
AME wizard is open source but only cli version. GUI version is not. And It is wired that only link from their documentation moves you to their updated source code. The link from main website is moving you to their outdated repo
i really dont see what this video proves. yeah leaving defender disabled will leave ur pc vulnerable. who wouldve guessed edit: funniest thing is the video u linked in the description, its tldr is that theres no performace impact on *modern hardware*. someone with older hardware could benefit from this (see 6:18).
I used Atlas for over a year... Had 0 issues with it. Used it on everything from a 13700k gaming rig down to a surface pro 4. I wouldnt recommend it for something recent that has the power to...power thru fat wimdows. Just not much difference. However. On an older machine in which Linux is spotty or not feasible, Atlas is fantastic. It saved my SP4. Thing runs soo, soo much better now. My SP4 was a topspec model at the time (i7-16-256) but its still nearly 10yrs old.
AtlasOS doesn't delete windows defender and gives users option to disable/enable anytime. I manually deleted defender with another tool. Windows Updates just crap. I never use it, always delete it completely. It always install someting I dont want, always breaks some tweaks, always breaks drivers, and always breaks windows itself. Some day I was using pure vanilla win10 without any tweak and a new update came out. I installed it, rebooted the pc, and windows just broke itself. I never tried everything I know to fix it but didn't work and I had to reinstall windows >:(
@ecartman71 You've no idea what you're talking about, do you? Yeah, you can easily break your OS with a typo or a misconfiged script. That happens. And you can usually also pretty easily recover from that manually, or by repairing or re-installing the system. By the way, if you still see a desktop with a trash bin, that's not remotely what "bricked" means. Bricked means it's FUBAR; won't work, won't start, can't even fix it. Like messing up a chip with a wrong firmware, or burning a chip with overvoltage, etc. That's pretty difficult to even accomplish with modern PCs, unless you're a total tool... or a professional. And "this pile of shit" actually does improve performance compared to the vanilla Windows experience. It cuts running background processes by a half, disables a lot of unnecessary fluff, frees up a lot of RAM, and reduces the overall system footprint, freeing up resources for gaming etc. Yes, it disables drivers, so what? I've often manually disabled device drivers I do not want to use, because why not? Just because you type it in ALL CAPS doesn't make it worse, lol. And yes, Atlas adds not just a few, but a lot of tweaks, and yes, you can also do most of them manually. But that is really tedious and time-consuming process, and I can guarantee you'll end up just messing something up, and reinstalling. So is Atlas perfect? No, of course not, it comes with some upsides and some downsides. Should you install it if you're worried about security or don't know what you're doing? Probably not. You should probably stick to what you know better, dabbling with playdough and eating poop.
The reason they disable that stuff is so it don't run while game playing. The entire reason for having a box like this is just for gaming. You don't go on the net with it for surfing or downloading or anything else you just connect to the net for gaming.
Gamers always want more games and fps and some of then are stupid and would click the first link that google gives as a "steam download" when its a virus
just so you know, you need to disable defender during the installation because it modifies windows files and registry if defender left enabled it will interfere with it and not work properly, as most people also said you can reenable defender in the atlas folder and it's also recommended. i have no idea what or why are you accusing atlas for being a mod for hackers? edit: I've been an atlasos user for a year, I've never had any problems with it no malware or anything trojan happened, one time i myself left defender disabled for a while and I've never gotten my computer hacked, if you got hacked while defender disabled that's your problem for installing random stuff on the internet, atlas shouldn't be held responsible if you installed something with defender off that's your problem
I've been running LTSC 2019 for 5 years with defender disabled. Ran a malwarebytes scan the other day out of interest and it found just 1 threat... Which was DefenderRemover from Github. Lol.
Disabling updates doesn't stop security updates, and it was recommended you kept it on, then you disabled it and started to shit on it? It triggers a windows administrative option, where windows put updates into categories in which you can disable some such as non-essential, drivers and security. The option triggers to disable all but security updates. Before you review OS modifications, it would help you knew just 1% of how the OS actually works. You are clearly someone on the low-end of the IQ-scale.
Yay, stay on W11 better on next Update 24H2, than you have backdoor in your ass too. Ohh Guys, do you really think MS Gift you with W10 or W11 without reward? So naiv...
I like your content but I don't get the point of this video as most of the "downsides" of atlas are optionnal and configurable. Atlas is a very good production ready playbook to be honest, and they make it so the safest settings are recommended by default.

people seem to be defending this steaming pile of shit because the security flaws can be resolved, completely ignoring the fact that it's completely useless and doesn't do anything to improve performance, no amount of software tweaks can re-write the source code for windows, the performance difference will be negligible, windows is fundamentally slow and no amount of dumb tweaks can do anything about that, this just does a few simple tweaks that anyone can do in windows anyway

@ecartman71 Ah yes. Make claim, have zero evidence. Classic. Atlas isn't any unsecure as Chris Titus's tool unless you specifically pick to disable Defender / Mitigations.
While configuring Atlas: Enable Defender (Recommended) -> Proceeds to Disable Defender, "I'm just gonna do it". Enable Default Windows Mitigations (Recommended) -> Proceeds to Disable Mitigations, "I wouldn't actually worry too much about that". Afterwards: Proceeds to manually install shady hacks which contains malware. "Yeah, this is not a good idea". Ok. You're absolutely right. Obviously software like Atlas comes with certain security risks, and you should only install it if you know what you're doing. But actively making it worse isn't quite realistic use case either.
the thing is, this type of program should only be ever used offline, like in an offline emulator only machine (gaming) giving the option to disable any security feature to “gain” performance is just a lie… you should keep distance to any type of software that says this remember, you do not need to install or run any unknown program to get infected, if you are online you are a target, see zero-click exploits… do not mess with your OS security, that will lead you to very bad consequences try to boost your security, see Microsoft Security Compliance Toolkit, not how to disable everything, this is just dumb

This is why you dualboot, so you have one OS for pure gaming, that's stripped from almost everything like Defender and such, and other Windows thats for everything else. Also another thing is, when you are dualbooting, you have option to disable SSDs, so if lets say you have 2 physical SATA3 SSDs, A and B, and lets say A is your stripped windows, and B is bloated[default] one. You can disable specific SATA port that your B Windows is running on, which means if you get compromised while playing on your stripped OS, you won't be affected, your main SSD [B] will not get compromised, and then once you decide to go back from stripped OS to main, you can turn off the SSD thats your stripped OS on, and by doing this, you can have best of both worlds.

The biggest is security is always the user.

Afterwards:
Proceeds to manually install shady hacks which contains malware. "Yeah, this is not a good idea".

If Atlas OS it self is hijacked they would bypass any such thing with full access beyond os settings no? These custom OS mods for windows are dumb and dont provide any real measurable impact unless your playing games with a machine that should be used for games to begin with.
