The best advice I ever got is to write a bad first draft. Don’t worry about the quality of your first draft. Write without editing (on paper, if you have to. This helps me), write without overthinking. Write bad sentences. Just write. A first draft always sucks, but that’s okay. At least now you have something to work with. Good luck with your book!
i dont have much problem with the first draft but 2nd drafts always get me because of the amount of editing and research i take up that slows down the process by tenfold. i guess it's more like painting or drawing in layers in the way that your process is personal. some can draw without a sketch after years of practice, others like to do the sketch and lineart, some go sketch > clean up > lineart > shadows, etc. not exactly related, just kind of rambling and trying to understand writing in a way i can digest
@@barbaradora i wasnt expecting a response but this took some weight off my shoulders and i really appreciate it. i'm preparing to write right now and i feel lighter, thank you
I remember reading how German composer Ludwig Von Beethoven would take daily walks in the park near his home. While taking these walks often different music stanzas would rush into his mind. He would then go home and write these stanzas in a notebook. So when he was composing music he often had these inspirational stanzas to work with. At his death hundreds of his notebooks were found. I use this method to capture the brain triggers that can sometimes come out of nowhere. Always carry a notebook or index cards with you.

Hi Mariana!!! Thank you for your advice. I used to write by hand and I changed to write in the computer. I got lost in the process. I need to write again, for the pleasure of writing. Great content like you always do :)
Good morning from grey, cold London! Thank you for all your videos. This was especially useful for where I am right now in life with a new job, lifestyle and 19 month old toddler. May I wish you a smooth remainder of your pregnancy and a wonderful start to motherhood, besos x
I write poems and my favorite places to write are semi-busy coffeeshops. Something about those places gets me in a contemplative mood as soon as I walk in.
I write my very first drafts for my stories in composition books and my only goal is fill BARE MINIMUM at least one page per day 📖 I then give the books to a friend of mine - who’s faster at typing than me - so she can type them, word for word, and we can edit the TYPED drafts while keeping the original composition books untouched
Very useful tips here. I appreciate the part about starting, even when you aren't necessarily feeling inspired. Like you pointed out, the quality of the first sentence or paragraph you write that session doesn't determine the quality of the entire work. Thank you!
Hi Mariana, What does your job as a legal advisor entail? I am about to graduate from law school in 3 weeks, I’ll finally be a lawyer after 3 years. I am exploring potential careers that I could pursue with my law degree. I love your videos!

@@cats404 that’s okay, it takes time to create something that’s good. No rush! And yes, it’s exactly like layering.

@@cats404 oh, you’re very welcome 🥰 I was just sitting down to write too when I got the notification. Good luck!🍀

Thanks for this advice on maintaining a writing habit! I enjoy writing so much, but it’s hard to get into the regular habit of writing.
This was great advice. I like the idea of switching rooms when you're writing for yourself. I'm going to start doing that myself.

Would you consider doing an in depth series on how you use Scrivener?

That's smart but a normal note would be better.

Routine is the key information! 😃
