Thank you for showcasing my country!🇬🇩🇬🇩🇬🇩 #473
Thank you for visiting Grenada! I hope to one day visit and connect with my family! Much love from my family in Grenada and from Trinidad!
I believe that brown down is basically brown stewed chicken with dumplings.
Hi David and Nathan. So nice to see the two of you 'live' today and to see everyone having so much fun: only in the Caribbean. Islanders know how to make you welcome and feel at home. I have to say, though, that the cook should have pre-prepared some of the ingredients and leave some to cut up for the video. That was a lot of ingredients for their national dish. Only thing missing was a whole hot pepper. I can just imagine the aroma and the taste.😋. I think what the bartender described as brown down is actually stewed chicken where we brown the sugar in hot oil and then put the seasoned meat in it to cook. Anyway, go light on the drinks and remember to eat something as well. Never drink alcohol on an empty stomach. It looks beautiful there: beach and pool side by side. Hope you get a lot of interesting info for us. Enjoy Grenada, have fun, but above all, you and Nathan, take good care of yourselves. BTW: the reference to 'oil' in the 'oil down' is when the coconut milk boils down it produces the oil. 🙏🤗🇹🇹🇨🇦
Thanks for more info on the oil down :) hope you have good day Judy ♥
@@elizabeth16598ee you are welcome Elizabeth. Hope you have an easy and good day too.🙏💕🌹
Nice man. So happy you took my advice and started with Grenada. Plenty healthy and tasty creole food you will experience there. Big up Greenz.
Yes love this island! 🇬🇩
We are not Creoles there are no Taino Arawak, kalinagoes or Amerindians in Grenada. We are pure Africans and we are Negroes. We do not speak or know or understand Creoles. Creole is a Dominican, Haitian, st Lucia, St, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago and other Caribbean thing. We don make Creoles dishes, never heard of them.
In Trinidad we refer to African influenced dishes as creole food. Grenadian decents make up a big part of our African population here in Trinidad. Along with Vincentians. So we know alot about allyuh.
@@Trinigrade01 dear Vincy are not African they are Fulanis or black Caribs. Creole is Eric William with curly hair. Dominican and St Lucians. Kalinagoes Amerindians and Taino Arawak. Negroes are not Creoles we don't even share a dna. Don't classified African as Creoles because we are not indigenous to the Caribbean or Spain, Portugal, Ireland and France.
@@Trinigrade01 you never insult a negro aka a Grenadian by calling is Creoles. We look nothing like them. Do you see Creoles in Africa?
Love your show!!! This one was really fun.
Appreciate you! ❤❤❤
Hi from Trinidad David!!!!...we just missed you .... I was at that the lovely True Blue Bay Resort just about a week ago...!! great experience

I love this coverage - The Art of preparing #OilDown Grenada's national dish. Thank you for visiting our #SpiceIsle The skin of the vegetables used in the preparation such as breadfruit & green bananas are boiled and feed to the pigs... hence why their(pigs that are butchered) meat is "sweet"
Just for the record, dumplings are not the most important ingredient in Oil Down. The most important core ingredients of Oil Down are breadfruit, taro leaves (a.k.a callaloo or dasheen leaves) coconut milk, turmeric, salt, spices and seasoning. These are the core ingredients that must be present for it to qualify as being Oil Down. There are other important ingredients such as some form of corned meat or fish, or chicken, dumplings, green bananas, carrots, half-ripe plantains, etc. But these can vary from person to person based on preference. I like to add equal amounts of curry and turmeric in my Oil Down and a little bit a sugar - just enough to create a slight, almost imperceptible hue of sweetness.
Great video. Hope you enjoy the spice island. Can’t wait for you to visit and showcase St Lucia🇱🇨🇱🇨
😊😊😊😊 love it here! One day I return to st Lucia ❤

Hey David, thanks for visiting Grenada, video was cut short we want to see the final dish and see you taste it. I didn’t see you wash hands, hopefully you did in the beginning 😊. The video was great I think the chef should of thought the local name for some of the ingredients for example: Dasheen leaves aka Callaloo. The peppers: seasoning peppers. Just my two pence lol hopefully you film more dishes and scenery of my beautiful island ❤❤
Stay tuned because the entire Grenada series will be coming out in about two months. The full video will absolutely show me trying the dish! It was a LIVE broadcast so it was cutoff the moment they shut the pot closed for 30/40 minutes to cook! I definitely tasted it and it was amazing. It'll definitely be in the main video. Have a beautiful week Dees World and thank you!!
@@Davidsbeenhere amazing! I can’t wait to see it. Thanks for the reply, you have a beautiful week also in the spice Island 😊 maybe one day we can do a collaboration 😉

Hi from Grenada
I would love for you to vist St Vincent and the Grenadines
its first on my list for next locations in the Caribbean! Coming very soon!
This dish look similar to Haiti dish 'legume' ❤
Looking. Good
Thank you! Cheers!
my best bro david looking handsome thank you for your huge respect against cpec friendship countries lot of love from your best bro viki 💙
28:41 No. It's not actually saffron. We just call it that. And I bet lots of Grenadians don't actually know that what we colloquially call saffron isn't actually saffron and that real saffron is actually a very expensive spice. What we call saffron is actually turmeric.
My favourite dish ..why you did not put some calaloo above the dumplin ♥️
Hi David ..a long time haven't been on live ...was good today ...BTW The Kenya videos are just so real...and the people are really humble ....beautiful series ...looking forward to the rest. You and Nate have a blessed day. stay safe.
Wow thank you so much! ❤
@@Davidsbeenhere Always always welcome David...all your videos shows the realness of a country.....This is good.
Thank you for always sharing. Many blessings. When are you going to Jamaica 🇯🇲? You should link up with Matthew . His UA-cam page is Jamaica food boss… he’ll definitely take you all over the island, local cuisine or any restaurants , home cooking all that stuff…., please give it a try. I love it. Look forward to seeing that best wishes.🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
I think he said he visited Jamaica some years ago so he won't come back for a little while
I'll be back actually sooner than you think! I'm working on something but will have to wait for the right moment. I definitely have been thinking about and have discussed returning!
David, When are you going back to Barbados aka Bimshire
I am from London, U.K. but also of Jamaican parentage. Wonder why there is not many other Anglophone Caribbean national dishes is not part of the main staples in the Caribbean restaurants and takeaways in the United Kingdom, examples Bake and Shark (Trinidad and Tobago), Conch Stew (Bahamas), Coucou and Flying Fish (Barbados), Doubles (Trinidad and Tobago), Fungi and Pepperpot (Antigua and Barbuda), Goat Water (Saint Kitts and Nevis), Green Fig and Saltfish ( Saint Lucia), Mountain Chicken (Dominica), Oil Down (Grenada), Pepperpot (Guyana), Roasted Breadfruit and Fried Jack Fish ( Saint Vincent and the Grenidines)?.
En Puerto Rico son panas...ese es el nombre
Actually, it is not saffron but turmeric. Tumeric is a ground tuber that has the same rich cadmium yellow colour as saffron. It has nutritive and medicinal properties. Locals also call it saffron.
saffron and turmeric are two different spice. Dont confused it. Yes they both give a orange, yellow color but in Grenada we have both and the turmeric grows wild everywhere. Ginger as well. For the oil down we put both turmeric and saffron
I have never eaten bread fruit. Curious to know what it taste like. Thanks for sharing.🥰
Like a potato kind of!
@2075 Let me help you out! I have eaten breadfruit several different ways: boiled, and fried. However, it was while on a visit to Jamaica that I had roasted breadfruit on an open fire. When I ate it, for the first time I understood why it was called breadfruit because it resembled the texture of freshly baked bread!😋😋
lool i saw you before in grenada
❤❤❤❤🇬🇩
David you did not try Grenada fry bake and saltfish or smoke-hearing !!!! and our cocoa tea. Also our rice and peas with coconut milk. Our callaloo pie and fish cake. I am missing the rest of our food. David you didn't went to fisherman city St. John's
🇨🇦🇹🇹🇬🇩👍👍👍
Hey davide i love your channel how u eat so much food i wonder if your stomach dont hurt and you eat so much and you so small
🤤
❤️❤️❤️
The best oil dong is salted beef n pig tsils or crabs
Chef should never allow anyone to handle his food , when this guy was in Barbados he couldn't touch their food, not good hygiene, don't allow them to take over, Love you Grenada,
????????? This food was made for the purpose of the video series I'm making on Grenada. This wasn't random, this was planned well in advance and me being a part of this is actually a part of creating the episode. This wasn't just me walking up randomly to a chef cooking and filming him. Respectfully I feel like you have a misunderstanding of how this entire setup is taking place.
Can I have some water please.
Who puts lemon juice in an oil down, what kind of craziness am seeing
Three hours and the breadfruit will be yellow and soft it will not be able to enjoy. I say 30 mins to 1 hr max.
IS THIS ROTI..?
I know after the Great Apocalypse Event of 2059 we lost/will lose a lot of digital and other records but sheesh! That is no reason for a young time traveler from the future like yourself to be asking such a question. You could have easily spent just a tiny bit of your time now in the past to research and find out that roti is a flat bread and not ... this! As a time traveler from the future you have all the time in the world and therefore no excuse!
love it but next time you play with food wash ur hand no disrespect ❤
Nex time maje de white boi wash he hands before he touch de food, yuh hear
David, how on earth could you touch those vegetables and dumplings and not wash your dirty hands after touching the camera?
Too many ingredients in the pot. By the time it's done it won't be oil down it would be cookup. I use just breadfruit, dumplings, saltfish or smoke herring and chicken, coconut milk with fresh tumeric. And let it make oil. Nice impressive try but I won't like it.
It was my first time trying it and it was pretty good but I'm sure there are some incredible recipes out there. The only solution is to eat more Oil Down and I have no problem with that 🤣❤️🔥 Thank you for sharing Doreen!
@@Davidsbeenhere glad you liked it. We love it too. Never a dull moment in Grenada for food.
Try our Cu cu with okra and chicken. It is call Fu Fu in Africa.
@@Davidsbeenhere You had metemgee in Guyana, which Grenadians call oil down. Everyone has their twist on the dish.
After David put his finger on that dough , come on chef you in control👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽
I'm sorry you feel that way but respectuflly you realize this food is made for the Show right? Like they specifically create it for the purpose of filming and me being involved. Its like you think I just walk up randomly while they are cooking and start filming and stick my hands in things. Same in Barbados...everything is planned well in advance and is done specifically for the purpose of filming content. Why would the chef "control" me when we are trying to film an episode for my channel?
Am I seeing right???dirty hands playing around with the food no no
