Great vid mate. Very informative. I'm from Aus, do IKEA assembly over here on the gig apps. I use a butter knife to open the boxes, slide it between the seam to separate the glue. Also use a Bosch 12v impact driver, much smaller than a standard drill.
Hello Alex. You’re absolutely right.A knife between the seam to separate the glue works very well and also does a clean job keeping the boxes intact which makes them Easier for disposal .
Ideally, you'd use a pozidrive bit, not a Phillips. Ikea uses pozi screws, using a Phillips bit, while it works, you risk it slipping and stripping even at low speeds. The pozidrive bits won't slip :)
@@alexc5369 "not a dude" ;) but yes, if you go to Ikea and get the 7.99 toolkit that has a hammer, wrench etc, it also has several bits, 3 of them are pozi bits that are the size Ikea uses. Otherwise you're going to be paying $2-4 for each bit in the store and they're kind of hard to find sometimes. So if you just get that cheap Ikea kit you get all the bits that you need plus some extra random tools.
I would suggest a power stapler for those PAX back panels instead of a brad nailer. Brad nails have a very small head that will push through the back panel with ease. Staples don’t push through. Also, the Ryobi battery operated stapler is like 1/3 the cost of the nailer.
I agree with you , they do push through the panels. But I figured out a trick a while ago and its to nail them in a 45 degree angle in the panel so they don’t completely go through. They are super solid this way. But I do agree a stapler is just as good!
I would highly recommend a Xiaomi electric screwdriver for the actual assembly, less risk of damaging the furniture, is about $50, rechargeable and very compact
When nailing each nail on the back of wardrobe not sure of using a nail gun cause need to make sure the nail is not going off the side wood panel. I know IKEA provide that small nail center support when hammering them nails in the back panels to prevent from hammering of the wood.
you're absolutely right. You must be very careful when nailing with a brad nailer gun and aim for the center of each panel so the screws don't pop out of the sides. but after you get experienced on how to do it right you will definitely save time with a gun.
Drills are for drilling. Electric screwdrivers are for driving screws. That drill is way overkill for what you need. Maybe a small impact would be better. One more tool I would put in the truck is a fold up table so you don't need the kneepads.
You are absolutely right about the foldable table. I actually got one after making this video and use it all the time. much better than kneepads. As for the drill , it’s much better than an impact, which will damage Ikea furniture. I just forgot to state in the video that you must put it at a very low torque setting and you’re good to go.
Hello Denny. You need a tape measure in case you are building a Besta system that must go fixed to a wall. Thats also where you would need a laser or traditional level.
hello, my name is Ervis ... I am from Albania and I have been working as a furniture assembler for 15 years, my age is 36 years old ..... I need to move to the UK ... Can you help me with a work contract like funitture fitter..if you can.. Thank you

hey thanks man. I'm gonna give pozidrive screws a try. Maybe you're right !
Wow thanks dude, mine generally slip and I've been using the No. 2 Philips. Did not even know a positive bit existed.

What size hex bits? Are they all 5mm or do you need a variety?
I got my 17 year old son to help me and he's my most Expensive tool😂
Absolutely! I know what you mean . LOL

Advice though use a screw driver not a drill in the beginning till you become more familiar with a drill so you don’t damage any of the furniture
Yes obviously you’ll damage furniture in the beginning if you have no experience with a drill or impact. I should have have mentioned that
Good info thanks
Very smart
Do you use Brad nails or pin nails
Brad nails
Electric screwdrivers?
Why would you need a tape measure? Ive assembled lots of IKEA stuff and never needed one, the parts are all pre cut and pre fabricated
