Hey! Did you get any instructions with those wera screwdrivers? That yellow striped is actually punhcing screwdriver. You can hit it with a Hammer while turning. It can take it, the steel goes all the way from top to bottom. That's why there's a place for pliers etc to hold and turn. Check out wera"s website.

That's the whole deal with IKEA. You don't go to the McDonald's dollar menu and expect gourmet food, so why expect IKEA stuff to be exceedingly high quality when most of it is dirt cheap

The ikea kit is the "no more excuses to have no tools in the house" kit.
I'm sure many a novice has taken that first step with kits like this and moved on to greater things from there.
Say what you will about IKEA but "it's cheap & good enough" and "we put thought into it" are good qualities of theirs. I like them for that reason.
Also like with power tools, get the cheap one and if you use it enough to break it then get the expensive one.
That's exactly what this is. If you've never done anything this is a great first step, with a UA-cam tutorial, to learn that tools aren't scary. The biggest issue with tools like this is that they make everything harder than it needs to be. A 5 min job with nice tools is a 20 min job with cheap tools. The bigger the job, the worse it is.
@@blondy2061hI'm not sure that it's for "jobs" of any kind. I think it's so you dont use a brick to hang a picture, or a knife to tighten a loose screw.
I think this kit is aimed at people that are only ever going to assemble furniture, hence it being sold in a flat pack furniture store. It should all be good enough for that purpose.
And it was designed around their furniture that you have to put together. It definitely beats having to use the crappy "tools" that come in the box.

Yea it is made for apartment people. You might need to do some minor assembly but anything beyond that you would need more. I have a $35 set that has a small saw, measuring tape, the screw driver has 65 heads, Crimper, 2 wrenches, and 2 pliers, hammer, small flashlight, box cutter, non contact electricity probe and a few other things. I don´t think there is a job that I couldn´t do with that kit and would really recommend it for the price. I would say If you were remodeling your apartment or repairing something like a sink it would do everything that you don´t need a power tool for.
The kit is specifically designed to assemble IKEA products, every other use for the tool kit is incidental. Right down to the not-actually-Phillips Phillips head bits.

Disagree. I have all the *bragging rights* fancy tools, but still I use the hammer from the IKEA kit a lot. It's small, handy and it does the job just fine. Titanium that Stiletto is made of is fragile and may chip if not used on a nail. Hex handle also works fine. Hex bits, pliers and a crescent wrench are garbage though. Still, way better, than nothing.
If you live in an apartment, you don't need much more than these tools.

As a professional, you laugh about the Ikea tool box, but it includes the tools you need to build Ikea furniture. And to hit a nail in the wall, that's enough and it is not meant to repair cars or do any other heavy work

It was my first "toolkit" when I was 12. i wasnt interested in handworking at all. My dad is an Iron worker. Now, 12 years later I'm an electronics technician at a brewery and all these tools are in my private toolbox at home and still get every simple household job done.
I think the Ikea stuff is just supposed to be a starter set. If you have no tools, no idea what you'll need in the future - these'll probably have you covered for $12.
If you find you need another tool - buy it. If you find you use one of these a lot - buy a better one.
However, I do agree that these were pretty well chosen - and selling them where you're probably going to be buying your first furniture, is a pretty good fit as you're probably needing your first everything.
Exactly what happened to me when I moved out. Dad supplied me with some tools, and I had some prior experience from living in the countryside every year in the summer months, but I still found myself buying new stuff for the home kit on a regular basis.
Especially when you rent a flat in an older house, there's always something that requires repairs.
My brother goes to a top university and can barely figure out a screwdriver. There are plenty of people like that who just need to do basic around the dorm tasks.
Millenial here. I bought this tool set years ago, and it has been super handy and worth the $11. I've only used it for basic around-the-house maintenance, but there is no denying the value of this set for a non-handy person.
I've got one of these, it lives in a kitchen drawer and it's perfectly adequate for what it's meant for. I use it about once or twice a week.
What in your house is so broken that you need to hammer/screw/plier it once or twice a week? Once you do something it shouldn't need to be touched for decades.

I bought that tool kit from IKEA in Seattle about 4 years ago for 7.99. I have used it on everything from bikes to little "around the house" fixes and for the price, you cant go wrong. I personally love the little case it comes in because it fits nice and neat in my kitchen drawer. I have managed to not lose a single bit. I would absolutely purchase another.

When it all comes down to it, it’s the difference between tools that get used a couple times a year, and tools that get used on a regular basis. $20+ pliers versus $2 pliers.
3 of those screwdrivers are pozidriv, not Phillips.

I love how you have started to be more open to cheaper tools realizing not everyone is using them every day all day. I remember the old wranglerstar would bash this tool kit. Very happy with how you are evolving with your channel. As a person who has started to become more handy around the house and on my truck a lot of the tools you used to show would be much out of my price range. Until I can afford better tools when I get out of high school harbor freight has been my best friend.
I believe the three "Phillips" bits in the middle are Pozidriv.
They are Pozidriv, and all the screws of that style found on Ikea furniture are Pozidriv, not Phillips.
Yes, they are. Also it's not Phillips as the Dutch brand spells it's name, it's just Philips. Pozidriv is an evolved version of Philips.
That was driving me nuts. He kept calling it Philips and then went on to "There's two of x size Philips" No sir, that's one of each Pozidriv and Philips in the same size.
Pozidriv is so much better than Philips in my opinion, but many people don't bother to find the correct size for their screws and it makes their life a lot harder.
My absolute favorite however is Torx.

The knipex ones yes, screwdrivers are usable for IKEA assembly even in the $4 price range
Problem with this vid is that the IKEA set is designed for someone with little to no experience with tools, who only occasionally will need them. His "dream kit" is all professional equipment that tradesmen use every day. If you only need to tighten the screws on your cupboard, you don't need a $30 screwdriver, a $2 with a bunch of bits will usually work just as well...
@@joshuachristensen9731 I'm one of those picky freaks that buys good tools even when I use them rarely. But I'm in a position to do so. I think for the average Jane or Joe, you hit it on the head. The "dream" kit is more of a fantasy.
@@EthosAtheos I'm all for buying quality tools, but buying a $100+ hammer that you're only gonna use maybe once a year seems a bit overkill. A $25-$30 one should do just fine.
@@EthosAtheos yeah same, I work as an electrician, and I know the importance of good tools when using them every day, but my home tool kit has mainly screwdrivers and pliers from what amounts to the dollar store. I use them rarely, so I won't spend a ton of money on them.

The screwdriver bit at 7:35 that you called a Nr.3 Phillips is actually a Nr.3 Pozidriv, it is ground differently to the Phillips tips. In Europe most of our screws are Pozidriv, so makes sense that a swedish company would include them.

The bits are 3 pcs of Phillps (Ph )and 3 pcs of pozidrive (Pz ).
Pozidrive bits have 4 main wings and 4 secondary, giving improved torque capacity.
Ph tools can be used for pz screws, but pz tools not so much for ph screws.

Metric is a better system than imperial and that's why it's used everywhere cept the USA. He could at least learn that the proper term for his own tool system is imperial, not 'standard'.

What I find funny about the imperial system is that it's definition is based on the metric system.
After being a Mechatronics tech for four years I can appreciate this little kit for someone who is just starting out with tools. I had a similar kit like that as a kid. Now I've spent around 5 grand in tools lol
The IKEA tool kit is mainly designed for IKEA furniture assembly and not household tasks. For example, the hammer is perfect size for 1 inch box nails which IKEA uses (and wooden plugs).
At 7:36 I think that's a set of Pozidrive #1, #2, and #3, and then a set of Phillips in the same sizes. Anyone care to confirm or deny?
Leave it to Wranglerstar to turn a review on a $12 tool set into a lecture on how we should all spend 500% more on a top of the line tool set.
I know right some of us don't have money like that. As long as the tool works it doesn't matter how cheap it is.
Those Knipex screwdrivers are indeed some of the best out there. I got a set like that about 10 years ago from my grandfather and still use it today. Great video!
I did some wire work. One thing you could use the serrated jaw on the back side of lineman’s or needle nose pliers is for stripping solid core wire. It is a common use on Romex wire. What you do is jus put the wire in the jaws and the serrations crush and separate the insulation from the wire without damaging the copper. Not all have them but if they do it is their intended use. It does require a bit of practice but speeds up repairs when just replacing an old outlet or switch. I am also very safety conscious and recommend getting a non contact voltage tester at your local hardware store. They are not very expensive maybe $15-$20 but will save you a bunch of time and/or safety issues.

We got one and love it, we have a vacation/Airbnb VRBO condo and we keep a set up to have the basic tools if something were to break...then we wouldn't have to drive down Mt Baker about an hour to town and buy the right tool, this makes it so we can do almost all our projects, for example, the kit saved my life when I had to replace a toilet seat and take off a towel rack
I bought this set many years ago when I went to Ikea with my fiancé (now wife) and they have been my go to box since. ALMOST (yes, the occasional needle nose pliers or the proper wire cutter, etc. are needed) always. these tools are what I need.

Question about the Knipex Cobra. In the video, I see you're using the 180, but the link shows the 250. Would you say that's a preferable size for general use?
The philips screwdriver tips are PH 1-3 and PZ 1-3. One is for wood screws, and the other set is for plasterboard (I think that's how it's called in english). The difference is the little slits inbetween the + pattern, gives you hell of a lot more grip for the corresponding screws.
I want it known that I do have a wonderful full toolbox that was passed down to me from my late father who was a tradesman and a passionate wood worker. It's a fantastic set but it's incredibly bulky and I have very little room for myself.
Nevertheless I have that exact IKEA tool set, which I bought when I was buying some cheap 'throw away' type of furniture for my first apartment. The quality is questionable but as cheap tool sets go, it has had its clutch moments. As a student it has become quite useful for me as it's very compact and transportable since I move around a lot. I have made small additions to it like a decent tape measure and a utility knife. Though not everyone may need those.
All in all if you're living in a rented small apartment that has the odd job that needs to be done, this is a decent tool set for the job. For anything bigger than that, I would not bother with the IKEA tool kit.
I bought this just because the hammer was cute. The screw driver and the hammer are really nice. I still have the pliers too but the rubber stuff on the handles came off, but it's still usable. For the price it's really not that bad.

This kind of remindse of the tool kit my dad bought me when I moved out on my own. I'm not a very "handy" person, I'm definitely not building my own house or anything like that, but having this tool kit has been great to do small repairs or putting together some furniture. I don't need a $100 hammer or a wrench that can grab a 2 in. bolt. Just some basic tools to work on the house and cars. It's a pretty cheaply made kit, but when something breaks, that just means I've used it enough to warrant me buying a better quality version of that tool. Honestly the best gift my dad's ever gotten me.

The screwdriver bits has 3x Phillips & 3x Pozi not 6x Phillips.
Pozi bits have an extra "locking" Criss cross 45° rotated from the normal Phillips Criss cross & sit lower down on the bit.
And IKEA is funny with their screws, they use pz2 heads for almost everything, but ther documents shows ph2. And if you use ph2 on pz2 it destroys both the screwdriver and the screws...
@@JohanSimonsson It does not destroy the screw driver. The screwdriver is much much harder than the screw. If you're not careful you can destroy the cheese grade screws with a PH2. But with the patricle board of Ikea you're never putting that much torque. It is annoying to assemble ikea furniture with a ph2 though.
For adjustable wrenches have a look at bahco wrenches. I carry one in conjunction with a knipex Cobra and a Benchmade 940 every day working as a merchant marine

I have this set in my caravan. The rubber cover for the hammer makes for a great mallet for awning pegs.
The plant I worked at blessed me with a lifetime supply of Wera, Knipex, and Rapidaptor tools just before they closed and laid us off. A sprinkling of Milwaukee and Kennedy, too.

Feet and inches are just called standard here. Every hardware store is separated standard and metric.
It's well worth the money. It's a handy set to have... We have one in our cabin, I got it when I took my toolbox home to have something. I already fixed the wiggly faucet in the bathroom with it.

Would of gone with a needle nose pliers with cutters. Too often I find myself having to get at a pin or something that a fatter pair of pliers would not get. If I am turning a bolt then you already have a better tool for that job.

Cody the Wera Brand is incredible, I have always used them alongside Knipex.
They do a Ratchet spanner called the “wera joker” they have a design that holds the nut for you so it never drops.
Also the wera alum keys are second to none! They have a small sprung loaded ball retainer that holds the screw/ bot on the end without it falling making it super easy to get those screws that are hard to reach back in.
my mom gifted me the kit a few years ago and I thought it was great! I've used all the tools in there so yeah it's the kit for every house so none can say you don't have tools

I am from England and I am a plumber and I have been using wera tools now for a few years and all of their stuff is amazing there impact bits and bit holders are amazing I have the chisel drivers witch is the yellow handle one they r superb and I would also recommend that you go and look at there 3/8 drive ratchets as they have got one that got I special head design and in my opinion they blow snap on out the water

this is the first time Ive seen an awl in a multi-tip screwdriver, usually I use the P1 or T5 tip for that duty
@@rich7934 I don't throw too many things into the bucket. I've got random bits laying around especially those decking screw bits which I have about 100 of in a jar. They last for one box then they are pretty much "useless".
My mrs went to IKEA and came back with one of these kits. Kinda been handy when I couldnt be bothered to go get my tools for a small job around the house
Bits from ikea set are the most common philips (PH1, PH2, PH3 - but might be PH4 for the furniture style zinc anchors that have a really large philips), and the other 3 that have the north star shape from top (the little rays between the main cross) are the Pozidrive bits PZ1, PZ2 and PZ3.
In Europe most wood screws are pozidrive (that has no angled faces, and does not cam out), and most metal machine screws are philips. (of course Torx, Inbus and hex are also very common). Also screws for plastics are PH and drywall screws are PH.
Philips head has angled faces and is designed to cam out.
Mixing them up is a recipe for rounded bits and screw heads. Never mix them up. If the bolt has a cross and a shalow 45 degrees cross like north star shape it is pozidrive! If it has only the cross is philips. Also choose the right size. the most common big mistake is powerdriving a PZ2 bit in a bigger PZ3 screw - it will cam out and round faces on the bit and screw. Then the proper PZ3 will not grab enough of the screw roundin it. The pz2 bit will be rounded enough to cam on even the correct PZ2.. so it's toast.
This is the second rule to always thow away those abused bits that no longer work right. Same for screws.
For this reason i only buy torx if possible.

Lots of Ikea furniture is still produced locally, but yes, some parts come from China, but paterial from shelfes and so on are sometimes still Swedish or locally. I helped a friend pick up materials in truck many times, around small factories in Sweden.
I have a shed full of every tool imaginable but keep on of these IKEA kits in the kitchen drawer.
Amazing how much I use it.

i have a nice multi-tip screwdriver where the shaft comes out of the handle and flips around. made by lenox. thats my go to i always keep in my tool pouch on every job. it holds 4 different bits and if you remove the bit the shaft itself is 5/16 socket and 1/4 on the other side. i use the shaft more than the bits.

I have Wera screwdrivers as well. I find them superior in most ways, however you cannot abuse them. The steel is harder allowing more bite, but causing them to be more brittle. Don't over torque them, don't pry with them...
they same to be made for electrical technicians. That's what I used them for and I'm a VERY VERY happy customer. I love my Wera tools
The diffrent colours have diffrent purposes, so the yellow handeld once are the tough, abuse resistant once. My guess is that you experienced this with the green once, which are more brittle and have a thinner shaft.

I am an american, but moved to Germany before doing my apprenticeship at a German carpentry.
I have been using the wera tools daily for the last 8 years.
The yellow ones have a shaft that goes through the handle for hammering, the hex on the front for attaching a wrench and are made to be abused. Have an older big flathead that I use to chisel stone if need be.
The green ones are softer, but better for finishing work. They brake/ chip if you use them wrong but are still worth every penny.
The red and yellow ones are the insulated ones (1000 V).
I have a set of each at work and at home. I swear by them and every craftsman worth his weight here in Germany uses them. You just have to use them for what they are made for.
Skip the green handles and get the yellow ones. Way better 'hand feel' and you can abuse them if needed

I would get him a Aliexpress tool kit for around 35. It will have a lot better tools in it and much better selection. I use this set below and it has everything I could need. I like that it has the electrical tools too. I do wish the wrench was one of those slide wrenches like he showed but I already have one of those anyway. There are kits like this one with other combinations depending on what you need. If you do more work with cars or wood you can get one with those tools.
I also have a 170W Dremmel tool from a Aliexpress brand called TASP that I cant recommend highly enough.

I think one of those 65 piece bit sets is a must these days because everything uses torx.
This kit would be perfectly fine. As a kid I had access to basically this same setup and there’s not a whole lot you can’t do with this and a hacksaw. Yes, there are much better tools but if you don’t want to pick individuals out, this should be alright (at least it has a case). Personally, I’d recommend a decent multi tool and a decent hammer at minimum.

I own this kit for 3 years now and for regular home repairs it works flawlessly, only grips on pliears spins so I glued them on
Discovered Wera on the job at a highly technical building and the staff there had a set. Recently purchased a ratcheting one with different bits on amazon for about $35-$40. They have all sorts of Wera tools on amazon, just so you know. Their combination wrenches are also particularly nice. Nothing is more satisfying than using quality tools to do a job.

Not only that, he replaced the multi screw driver with a dedicated set of screw drivers. These are not comparable in the slightest. Obviously any dedicated screw driver will be better then one that has interchangeable bits.
Well, that's why it's the "dream" set, and not the 'moderately superior' set.
These are all very useful and in a good price. Not just furniture, you will definitely need in your lifetime these tools. Be it Ikea or whatever a set like this even a cheap one is a MUST in a house. The rubber hammer thingy was a very cool touch.

@@5hif7yx86 Not really, although it exists. You'll mostly find either Phillips or Torx.
Having a hex bolster on a screwdriver is fancy, but many screwdrivers (including the IKEA one) simply have holes in the handle that fulfill the same function. Just put any rod/stick/second screwdriver through it and you have the leverage needed.

A master can work with cheap tool's, a faliure will always blame his expensive tools.
Cheap tools have a place. A master doesn't use cheap tools because the reliability matters. They can use them but don't. (most of the time)
