BTOB and Straykids really became friends friends. Minhyuk said that during Kingdom, his house became Straykids' second dorm. There's also this one comeback when btob and skz promoted at the same time and were both nominated for number 1, skz won but btob also joined them in the encore.
What I love about Ateez is they're so intentional about their choices & they're so layered. In this perf, the theme is Casa de Papel, which was a heist movie set in Spain. And this is also a preview of their Guerilla era themes. So during their tour, they dropped "guerilla-style" marketing in Madrid and in Korea. (I'm not sure it tops the K-hot Chili Pepper marketing, esp the little produce trucks in Korea, but it's up there.)
i actually cant wait for you to go further in this show, like i know you think it's reached it peak, but when i tell you the performances just keep getting better and better. These idols are INSANEEEE
the diagnosis of Jongho's vocals is so real. In terms of western artists, I've always compared Jongho and Ateez to Patrick Stump and Fall Out Boy. Powerful songs and powerful vocals yes, but also the way Patrick and Jongho both have very classically trained styles. They can hit the notes and hit them on an insane scale, but they truly shine when they're able to go all out in their preferred, more traditional, genres. ie ballads and soul/jazz. Truly meant to be experienced live.
Han is such an amazing vocalist! I love how gagged everyone gets when they first hear him. Also, changbin can sing too. They both been on masked singer, yeah the main rappers 😂 you guys are going to love the coming episodes the friendships are so sweet and the stages get better and better
You will be surprised how GORGEOUS Han’s singing voice is. He’s got my fav vocal in skz. There are some skz group songs that showcase his vocals well along with his solo songs. 😌
Every group just gets better every week. And ranking them doesn't mean anyone of them was bad that week. They are so good, that it gets down to personal preference
Han is the one doing the high notes in Hellevator, as they were too high for their then-main vocalist. After said main vocalist left the group, he ended up covering most of his parts (especially at the concert they had like a month later). A true all rounder :)
I agree with you and the professionals who rated Ateez number 1 for this..this was a stellar performance..there were no vocal errors, they made rhytm ta their own..I liked this version better than what Ikon did to Inception..maybe they didn't like the masks and therefore rated it lower 😂
UA-cam informed me at the end of last year that I watched this performance for 109 minutes since my first time watching on May 8th... Wonderland attracted me and then Rhythm Ta made me fall in love.
That Bang Chan-I.N. moment (and the greatness that is the next round) is what truly made me a STAY 🥰 I've always believed what makes SKZ special is they have always been genuine dudes following their passions & dreams as writers, producers and artists 🙌 and frankly I love seeing it all up close & personal
i’ve been binging your guys’ kpop content (and I love it all) but this might be my favorite recap series you’ve done so far! kingdom was a tough experience for a lot of the groups but the performances are so incredible. i rewatch them all the time. and as a stay, it’s so fun to see people discover that there’s pretty much nothing Han can’t do. like, it’s baffling.
Rubbing my little han bias hands together, I LOVE watching people geek over his range 💜 also man. you guys talking about stray kids fostering such a bond with stays, and also relishing bang chan's gentleness towards his members -- I think those two things go hand in hand! This group is a safe place for strays, truly, and a lot of that is thanks to chan's leadership. PS I know you both joked that it's hard to comment on performances of this calibre, but taking off on a tangent about one member/group/theme or other is recap gold, baby. Your delight is infectious!
Jongho looking mature in his twenties just means he's going to age like fine wine. Also, I can't wait for the SKZ rediscovery because I absolutely adore changbin and felix's singing voices since they're so different from their usual rap tone. Mnet has always been shady because why would they only show half of the scores and then start the fan voting if not to cause drama? I also have not forgiven them for what they did to chan during their survival show. He was doing a prank where he acted like he was mad at the members and left the room only to bring in a cake and reveal that it was all a joke, but Mnet cut out that last part and just showed him being mad and leaving the room which made a lot of the viewers confused and angry at him for the way he acted. It was later on after their debut that jisung and chan revealed it was edited out during one of their variety shows.
I didn't love Rhythm Ta THAT much the first time I saw it, I mean it was still solid but it was like 8/10 for me. But on multiple rewatches I can say that constant cuts REALLY mess up the flow of it, I love it so much more retrospectively and the way it connects to Guerrilla (prohibition of art, the blimp!) is insane to me considering the show was over a year before that era even started. Just the way their oncoming performance didn't quite hit it for me until I grasped the lore and the IMPLICATIONS of it. The way they took this opportunity to actually elevate their lore is kinda insane and awesome to me. I think that's why they still perform Wonderland Kingdom version on every tour. That's why the Real is their staple. None of it was just for the show but meant to last and it really does!
Seeing ppl find out Han is an excellent vocalist is always so satisfying!! Don't feel bad about not knowing about it at first, it's always a surprise when you get into them. Also, the protective instincts towards I.N is so relatable. He's grown so much but I still want to shield him from everything and I hope at the time he also was able to reach the conclusion you guys mentioned, that the mistake actually really fit the performance and storyline!! It just felt emotional. I'm loving seeing you guys fall into them a bit more and I just also love how much you appreciate Bang Chan as a leader and friend and also as just him
when you guys do your next recap, i'd love to see yall talk a little bit about the field day and your favourite moments lol, even if it's just briefly at the start.
The maknae love goes crazy strong in stray kids. Btw don’t know if you guys are interested in adding more shows to the watching list but in any case the new season of chuang asia seems pretty promising
8:53 I’ve been saying this! Hongjoong’s stage person is so captivating and well crafted. Literally the second I heard his lil giggle in Pirate King back in 2018 I knew he’d be my bias. But I love how mischievous, playful, and honestly sometimes a little villainous he’s willing to be on stage! (Side tangent- but I’ve been screaming from the rooftops that we need to bring back villain kpop. I’m talking BlockB, B.A.P, Monsta X, hell even Bigbang sometimes. Let the girls be evil for an MV or two 😌. You can even be a captivating sexy villain character like Taemin is in most of his solo work. Just please, more variety in stage personas 😖)
I actually agreed with the early rankings because the song was supposed to be re-born (the title of the round). As far as not liking Awakening of Summer as much as Symphony 9 From the Wonderland, Genius Korea rated the latter as the best Kpop performance of 2021, so yah--it's going to be hard to beat.
its really unfortunate how Ateez's approach to the show gets a bit overshadowed by all of the other groups performances. I think seeing how much global votes are affecting the voting, they changed their strategy to performances that they enjoy and wanted to be best received by Atiny. And you can kinda see it here with the lore heavy performances compared to the other groups performances next round. I also wish Ateez gained a bit more support from the other groups after the show aired. Despite being in the same group as BTOB and Stray, they didn't nearly become as close somehow to the sunbaes than the other younger groups. And frankly after 2021, Ateez just stopped mentioning the show and others groups period. Kingdom being the only real show that involved interacting with other groups that Ateez has been on, really emphasized how outcasted Ateez is to the Korean Music industry and still is to this day.
I think if you mapped out a timeline of the shift in how they were treated in Korea / by the kpop industry, you would see how the impact of Kingdom absolutely. I think their ability to perform on such a high level so early in their careers may have terrified the industry with them being from such a small company with no previous groups ….
The fact that Straykids always call each other family & Bangchan in his latest interview saying that their relationship is more about love than friendship ❤ Stays joke about Bangchan being a dad of 7 & he doesn't deny it😂❤
Agree that the vote reveals are the hardest to watch! I was a more casual fan of multiple groups on the show but couldn't help but feel devestated watching the The Boyz- the way they talked about it on bubble and on lives it was like witnessing their spirits be crushed week by week in real time. The best parts to watch were definitely the group interactions and friendships born throughout the show-- watching maknaes of the show Ateez tentatively chat with iKon in this round was so heartwarming!
Genuinely the bond stray kids have is so special. Chan is one of the best leaders in the Industry. All of these guys value each other so much, you can feel how every member thinks the other members are so very precious to them.
Even i think bloom bloom pow is in culture rn ever since Adam talked about herrr,, she's like the queen Adam preachhhh!! WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT BLOOM BLOOM POW!!
I suspect that the brief for this round was very specific regarding reinterpreting the music, so viewed through that lens, the expert/self ranking makes some sense in that what Ateez did musically was a departure from the original, while what Stray Kids did was closer to the original. It could also be that it was a ploy to amp up the drama and the fan bases, which is all well and good for ratings but the PTSD that persists to this day is an unfortunate legacy of Kingdom.
Please tell me you are also watching the whole full cam videos for each performance! It makes such a difference seeing all the performance from all angles!
I have been listening to this version of I'll be your man since I saw it first, it was like one of the most important reasons why I never switched to Spotify and stay on YTmusic. It's SO good. But also there is a video Bangchan reacting to the performances on Chan's room and he muted that note for a second when he was going through it out of respect for IN even though I totally agree that it's it DOES sound great! That moment destroys me every time as well.
I would really love you guys to do a full deep dive into SKZ! I just know you would absolutely love them so much, they are just so sweet and love eachother so much, not to mention HILARIOUS. I cant wait to watch the day you guys become official stay’s! 💗💗
i love people finding out han can sing, like he could easily be a main vocalist tbh. if y'all do a stray kids month i hope you check out his lee mujin service episode bc it absolutely blew me away even though i already knew he could sing lol oh and changbin is a really good singer too!! he was a singer before he was a rapper actually i agree with you on i.n's high note, it felt natural and appropriate for the song and i hate that he was so hard on himself for it :(
I somewhat understood the professional rankings. I think Stray Kids, while did do a lot for this performance probably stayed the closest to the original... I was hoping they would do Movie instead. Truly felt for The Boyz, especially when you are sitting there in the same room and realize no one voted for you. SF9 are only just over a year older than The Boyz and as they started to do more sexier/darker concepts were getting closer to being in the same wheelhouse as each other. But both of them had as you said a different story going on vs the other two junior/senior pairings.
I love watching the recaps because it reminds me of all the emotions I felt when I first watched it Kingdom. Its so funny to see you discovering that Han is an ace, the man sings, raps, dances, is a lyricist and producer, there's nothing he cant do lol
I feel like the judges were just not giving btob their roses throughout the entire show. As for skz ranking last, it felt like maybe they were unhappy with how the fan votes treated ateez after the first round and tried to make up for it in this round….
So as an avid atiny I agree with y’all’s scores because while Ateez did a fantastic performance I think between this weeks challenge and last weeks challenge they’re having the same problem as the BOYZ where they fall into “ how can we top ourselves?”. I think BtoB did the best at challenging themselves on stage as well as on their vocals in this
The thing thats crazy about kingdom, is my ranking is totally different than yours (except BTOB as #1) but i can understand your rankings entirely.....because all the performances are amazing! It just comes down to individual taste
I can’t wait for you to see episode 7 and the vocals coming out of Jongho, Eunkwang, and seungmin. Also all the kudos in the world to bangchan as a leader because I believe he is a great one but I hope GOT7 gets to be beloved of the month at some point. JayB made it possible for them to be a group and remain as one. They also are seven men not afraid to show each other affection which is just so special to watch their true, genuine friendship and love for one another.
To be honest my personal ranking is not too dissimilar to the experts, though I might swap around Ikon and BTOB. Just based on the performances that I still rewatch to this day. TBZ cover is on heavy rotation on spotify still for me. I am heavily biased, but I honestly think to this day Ateez was a showstopper. They go from high to high and I still find this one explosive, and I love that even though there's less stuntwork they can do it with choreo alone. You're right in that the overall level this week is so high that its hard to rank at all, but I would probably have SKZ last... mostly as others have said that the song is closest to the original, but I also think it didn't feel as clean or polished when they did group choreo. This is all so nitpicky and hairsplitting though when every performance is iconic.
If you're surprised by Han's vocals in I'll Be Your Man, you should check out SKZ's cover of Shinee's Sherlock because Han has some amazing moments in it. Also i heard the fan theory that the kid in I'll Be Your Man represents Hyunjin who had to go on Hiatus in the middle of Kingdom for.....reasons....
Just to add to your thoughts on the contrast between TBZ/SF9 and the other two pairs. It felt like they were the forgotten middle children (as you said, oldest of the youngers and youngest of the olders). Also they didn't choose each other so I think it would've felt forced if they tried to make them seem like each others fans. But anyway this episode. Ateez did an awesome job, pirate energy but a totally different stage. They always impress me with how well balanced they are as a group, which is an insane thing to say when you have Jongho in there. BTOB Back Door was immaculate. Honestly. They seemed at ease in it, and it fit them so well. It showed their personality but also showed something that I hadn't seen from them before. I love what they did with it. Minhyuk is a menace. Following him on instagram was the best and worst decision I've made. SKZ. Ugh. They were amazing. Like I know what they can do, and if you're familiar with them you know they are incredible vocalists, but this really showed it to everyone who maybe wasn't familiar. And the song choice. Phenomenal. I love that they went for it, when in the last round BTOB said themselves they weren't picking it because it was such a difficult song. And they nailed it. IN's voice crack fit the song, lent itself to the emotions, and I will hear no different. The voting was garbage, as it always it. But like I will never win because I want everyone tied in first place. 😂
This week had such strong performances. No matter how I personally liked them they were objectively good and had little to critique quality wise. Everyone was amazing! How I would’ve ranked them (by how much I enjoyed watching them, as always) 1. BtoB because obviously, I loved everything about their stage. It did exactly what it set out to do and it did it flawlessly. Also minhyuk please I don’t want to come in I want you to **** ** ** oh my fucking god! 16:57 hard same, I was never the same after I watched this. I liked btob before kingdom too but now their fully one of my ult groups 2. Sf9 need I explain? 3. The boyz the drama the song the costuming my ballet girl heart is happy, my fave tbz performance in kingdom! 4 the rest, I liked them all about an equal amount. They all had (small) things I didn’t like, either with the stage or the song arrangement and I simply can’t be arsed to analyse them deeper and think which thing I didn’t like weighs more in the scale… I don’t if it gets better but the next round has some phenomenal performances that are at least as good as this round's and I'm really exited for them! And for next weeks episode because it’s so much fun!
tbz did bloom bloom in princess dresses for you, adam. they want you to know you're not wrong about them bc they can be smiley boys if they want and they can be sexy and cool if they want and people who try to put them in a box should just quit 🤷♀
Han is the reason I became a Stay. I was a casual listener before and liked some of their songs but didnt really follow them that close. Then I saw Han on Lee Mujin and just fell down the rabbit hole after that. He has such a versatile voice, I love it. You guys should check out all of their Lee Mujin eps. Seungmin, Han, I.N and Lee Know have all been on it.
Love these, thanks for doing them Fun fact, I'll Be Your Man was dedicated to Hyunjin (don't know how much of the Hyunjin drama you know) and how like they'd go through it for him The child statue actually was wearing the 8th ring they made on a chain around the neck Minhyuk and Lee Know were also friends before kingdom happened And yes, protect I.N, and Seungmin Oh, and yeah, all the performances are one takes
Cute reaction - can't wait to see your ep 7 and 8 reactions to the mayfly stuff on Kingdom. For your Minhyuk viewing pleasure......ua-cam.com/video/QoQ0xbD_im8/v-deo.html
Strongly recommend you guys to check out SKZ’s latest 8 solo MVs, all the songs are great and so DIFFERENT and you will find out what the members are capable to do, the aesthetic is beautiful as well, you guys will love it.
I get what you are saying about I.N.' s "mistake" that it's good because it's so musical theatre but that's the thing. This is not musical theatre, this is a show with professionals grading them for the technicalities. It was so hard to see him beat himself up specially when it was airing but it was not "brilliant" like what you guys are saying.
Well they needed to put on a PERFORMANCE, the performance was put on and his voice cracking added to the PERFORMANCE. idk why you're trying to act like a pro but it was brilliant considering at the end of the performance they pretty much die, it sounded like he was putting his last breath into his note.
I agree with you. Unfortunately no matter how much we as the viewers enjoyed it, it was not intentional. If they were deducted points because of it as a technical error then that really sucks, but is understandable. However, I think everyone can agree the judging is not great, especially considering this is also a performance based show, and the technicalities should not be everything. I don't think it was worth ranking last but we do not know exactly what the expert judging criteria is 🤷🏽♀. I can't imagine it was solely that missed note and that no other group got other technical critiques.
BTOB and Straykids really became friends friends. Minhyuk said that during Kingdom, his house became Straykids' second dorm. There's also this one comeback when btob and skz promoted at the same time and were both nominated for number 1, skz won but btob also joined them in the encore.
Peniel was also a JYPE trainee when Got7 and bangchan were trainees so they knew each other pre-remaining skz members even auditioning
33:27 The answer to this is Team Mayfly. It gets better.
they are going to sob at both vocal team performances at LEAST i just know it. so hype to rewatch
the diagnosis of Jongho's vocals is so real. In terms of western artists, I've always compared Jongho and Ateez to Patrick Stump and Fall Out Boy. love hearing you say you don't know how it'll get better from this challenge and i'm just giggling knowing my fav round is coming up next :D
I cant wait for yall to see the Eunkwang Jongho Seungmin mash up!!!
I am betting that Adam’s gonna cry
@dep6170 boffem!!! Like babies! Lol
@dep6170 I would put my entire livelihood on it!
Don’t spoil them!
the way jeongin is so revered as the maknae is lovely. the kids always make sure he is given the trophy to hold for any awards they win.
Han is such an amazing vocalist! I love how gagged everyone gets when they first hear him. Also, changbin can sing too. They both been on masked singer, yeah the main rappers 😂 you guys are going to love the coming episodes the friendships are so sweet and the stages get better and better

A true all rounder :)
watching you two get btobpilled is extremely precious to me i love this
I love the Han appreciation!! This man is amazing! They all are, but he blows me away.
I was so shocked by your reaction to Ateez, because this performance of theirs is literally one of my favourites on the show 😭😭
I agree with you and the professionals who rated Ateez number 1 for this..this was a stellar performance..there were no vocal errors, they made rhytm ta their own..I liked this version better than what Ikon did to Inception..maybe they didn't like the masks and therefore rated it lower 😂

I still watch the BTOB, SF9 and SKZ performance from this round. They're all so good 😭
Wooyoung is so cute talking about Jay 🥹
I’ll Be Your Man was literally my favorite skz kingdom stage. It deserved so much more😓 Thanks for giving it the appreciation it deserves
Yes Han vocal king! Ya’ll have to listen to his solos (Han-Pop) especially “13” or “Maybe” 🙌
I didn't love Rhythm Ta THAT much the first time I saw it, I mean it was still solid but it was like 8/10 for me. crazy them saying this is the pinnacle of the performances when you know whats coming.
HAN IS THE GIG ECONOMY 😂😂😂

i still think regularly about minhyuk and felix to this day. my top ghost ship fr

i love people finding out han can sing, like he could easily be a main vocalist tbh. if y'all do a stray kids month i hope you check out his lee mujin service episode bc it absolutely blew me away even though i already knew he could sing lol
oh and changbin is a really good singer too!! he was a singer before he was a rapper actually
i agree with you on i.n's high note, it felt natural and appropriate for the song and i hate that he was so hard on himself for it :(
I somewhat understood the professional rankings.
Also, was I the only one gagged by Peniel's tootsie pop line????!
Ooooohhhh just wait til the vocal performance. It gets better. I still watch the up coming performance often and get emotional every time.
I’m so glad you liked the skz and btob performances so much!
How I would’ve ranked them (by how much I enjoyed watching them, as always)
1. BtoB because obviously, I loved everything about their stage. It did exactly what it set out to do and it did it flawlessly. Also minhyuk please I don’t want to come in I want you to **** ** ** oh my fucking god! 16:57 hard same, I was never the same after I watched this. I liked btob before kingdom too but now their fully one of my ult groups
2. Sf9 need I explain?
3. The boyz the drama the song the costuming my ballet girl heart is happy, my fave tbz performance in kingdom!
4 the rest, I liked them all about an equal amount. They all had (small) things I didn’t like, either with the stage or the song arrangement and I simply can’t be arsed to analyse them deeper and think which thing I didn’t like weighs more in the scale…
I don’t if it gets better but the next round has some phenomenal performances that are at least as good as this round's and I'm really exited for them! And for next weeks episode because it’s so much fun!
tbz did bloom bloom in princess dresses for you, adam. they want you to know you're not wrong about them bc they can be smiley boys if they want and they can be sexy and cool if they want and people who try to put them in a box should just quit 🤷♀
Stray kids beloved of the month when?! There is SO much more you guys need to see!
Also the rankings for week one and two change AGAIN I think because they rerank them for both weeks in episode 7
Love these, thanks for doing them
Fun fact, I'll Be Your Man was dedicated to Hyunjin (don't know how much of the Hyunjin drama you know) and how like they'd go through it for him
The child statue actually was wearing the 8th ring they made on a chain around the neck
Minhyuk and Lee Know were also friends before kingdom happened
And yes, protect I.N, and Seungmin
Oh, and yeah, all the performances are one takes
missing mingi is so so real.. y'all get ateez bad
Where can I find it to watch???
Minhyuk BtoB is My Bias 💙🔥 you definitely need to react to Minhyuk ( Huta) Solo “Boom”
Now y'all are obligated to do Stray Kids for beloved of the month I don't care what the votes say girl 😭
39:56 "Bang Chan is my Patronus" .... SAME GIRL!!!
Cute reaction - can't wait to see your ep 7 and 8 reactions to the mayfly stuff on Kingdom. For your Minhyuk viewing pleasure......ua-cam.com/video/QoQ0xbD_im8/v-deo.html
Hmmm
Strongly recommend you guys to check out SKZ’s latest 8 solo MVs, all the songs are great and so DIFFERENT and you will find out what the members are capable to do, the aesthetic is beautiful as well, you guys will love it.
I get what you are saying about I.N.' s "mistake" that it's good because it's so musical theatre but that's the thing. This is not musical theatre, this is a show with professionals grading them for the technicalities. It was so hard to see him beat himself up specially when it was airing but it was not "brilliant" like what you guys are saying.
and we thought it was so... what now.
Agreed with you 💯 the groups will be ranked on their singing prowess before anything else
@@TheAmpliverse I completely agree with your take on I.N, I thought he sounded perfect for that moment.
