    Mine seems to be working pretty well but it’s really difficult to get on. Not in terms of it being too big to fit, but the process of being gentle with it. I managed to get it in without scratching anything. The part of the adaptor that comes into contact with the body (aside from the electrical contacts) is good quality plastic and the Komodo battery surface feels like plastic too, but I think it’s just smooth paint. You don’t have to scratch to get it on, just some finesse. It’s very snug but only because of the metal spring things in the battery slots.

      Yeah that first time is a bit tough but after you know where to push to get it on evenly it’s much easier. I still think after you do it a few times it’ll end up scratching it a little bit. I’d be pretty surprised if it didn’t just because of the metal on metal. The back of the camera is definitely metal though. I like that about Red’s stuff, it’s all very sturdy.

    Seriously great video. Only your background music is too loud , kept having to turn up audio to hear your VO. Aside from that nice work ad thanks for posting

      Yeah I had some audio issues with this one in particular. Should be better for the next one! Glad you liked it though!

      It’s amazing. The features that are packed into that little box is just crazy. I love it

    Thank you very much for this excellent video. One question does the LEMO-2 and D-tap ports on the plate work without a V-mount battery mounted on the plate when the camera is powered through the power-in port through LEMO-2? This is important for the setups in which you don't want the battery to be on the camera like on a gimbal and you power the camera directly from the gimbal output power but you still need to power your accessories like focus motors and wireless video transmitters

      I’m fairly certain this is the case. I’ll test this and get back to you!

    Cool video. So how is the touchscreen response now on this final production model ?

    • @LAMARPLUSNIK
      @LAMARPLUSNIK  3 роки тому

      Touch screen response is good. Sometimes the menu is a teensy bit slow but that will improve with more firmware updates. It doesn’t effect the use of the camera very much

    What kind of battery life are you getting out of the Komodo with a 98WH V-Mount?

    • @LAMARPLUSNIK
      @LAMARPLUSNIK  2 роки тому

      I get around 2 hours or so. Sometimes a little less or a little more.

    Great setup 👍 I’m going to buy a komodo very soon. I was thinking to get an ipad mini 6 as a monitor. Does Red improved the app? How is the latency now? Any improvements with firmware updates?

    all the footages from red 18-50mm lens seems to be lot sharper than the rf lenses. There seems to be something pleasing feel that comes with this lens. Is that how you feel too?

    Does the plate shake or wiggle at all? I saw a review on B&H that said there is space between the mount and camera. But I want this plate over the tilta to see battery power. Let me know brother thanks!

    • @LAMARPLUSNIK
      @LAMARPLUSNIK  3 роки тому +2

      No way. There is a small amount of space between the mount and the camera in one or two places but it's not a big deal at all. I think once you get the plate and put it on, you're going to laugh about worrying that it will shake or wiggle. It's really snug on the camere. Like you could fall and smack this thing on the ground and I don't think it would come off.
      It's a good purchase in my eyes. Like I say in the video, it's a little weird putting in on at first, but once you know how to put pressure in the right spot it's very easy to do it.
      Good luck on your purchase! I definitely think it's the nicest looking plate as well.

    How much does the plate stick out from where the camera's pointy end stops? For eg 10mm, 20mm? Can you measure pls? I'm wondering if this with a thin battery can fit on rs3 pro

    Do you need a power cable to connect komodo and the plate or it automatic connected without the cable

      Automatically connects via the BP slots, no cable

    How do you like using the Hydrogen as a monitor? That’s an interesting choice to keep things simple and wireless.

    • @readytochop2462

      And with all the SDI drama, I’m leaning towards just using a link adaptor, or at least as backup. Many people aren’t following proper procedure and they are frying the port.

    • @LAMARPLUSNIK
      @LAMARPLUSNIK  3 роки тому

      I wouldn’t be deterred from using SDI. The process is pretty easy to remember after doing it for a bit. Also the problems mostly arise when you introduce unshielded cables like D-tap/P-taps. I am actually using a d-tap powered monitor right now so I’m being careful about it. But if you have batteries for your monitor, your worry should be significantly reduced.

    • @LAMARPLUSNIK
      @LAMARPLUSNIK  3 роки тому

      Honestly, I wouldn’t use it on a serious job as your monitor to pull focus from unless you got the link adapter. For scenarios with a lot of RF interference it can make your job hard.

    Is KOMODO iphone app good enough to shoot? Can the app replace the monitor in the run & gun cases?

    • @LAMARPLUSNIK
      @LAMARPLUSNIK  3 роки тому

      I would say it can replace a monitor if you're using Autofocus and you are on a high stakes job or something. If you just shooting for fun, it works no problem. If you're on a job? You should have a monitor on there.

  • @gerhardsmit3333

    Nice video! Would you think the Hydrogen would be sufficient as a monitor? How is the latency with the Hydrogen and the Komodo?

    • @LAMARPLUSNIK
      @LAMARPLUSNIK  3 роки тому

      I think for you to be completely happy with it as a monitor, you'll probably want to get the Red Link. There's definitely some latency, the main moments that you notice it is when you're pulling focus. It's not impossible to hit critical focus but if you're doing a job that's more formal, you'll definitely want an actual monitor. But for walking around and shooting some travel footage or some stock footage, you'll be satisfied. Or if you have a job where you have a little more slack to take some time, you'll be fine. Ideally, though you'll want either the Red Link or just get an actual monitor.

      The Hydrogen's holographic screen also gives a weird representation of the image, but, in general, a phone can be a pretty decent monitor. I've made rigs for my Z Cam F6 using a phone because of how good the app is. I believe the Komodo app is also super solid. My F6 can connect to the phone with USB-C or Ethernet and, assuming you can do something similar with the Komodo, it makes for a great on camera monitor.

    Does your core plate have any wiggle room? I've purchased 3 different plates and they all have a little play, not a fully snug fit.

    • @LAMARPLUSNIK
      @LAMARPLUSNIK  3 роки тому

      No real wiggle room, when it’s on there it stays still. It can slide up without disconnecting. You’d have to push up on it or tap the battery firmly on a table or the ground. This only pushes the plate up until it hits the barrier that the eject button creates. So to be clear, you can move the plate upwards, if you do the camera is still powered. I have never done this accidentally so it’s really not a problem. Other than that, there is no wiggle room, it fits firmly

    whats the approx run time for the core swx? it looked like it said over two hours :O

      My core batteries last around that. It’s pretty ridiculous. Went on a shoot the other day forgetting the power consumption was so good. Brought all three of them and only used one lol

    Stunning footage. A lil shaky. How's the IBIS?

    • @LAMARPLUSNIK
      @LAMARPLUSNIK  3 роки тому

      Thanks! Yeah the shakes are definitely from me not having two handles and I was using a manual lens for most of this video so no IS on the lens. There’s also no IBIS on Komodo. But as long as tourne shooting a slightly higher shutter speed and we aren’t talking about heavy shakes then stabilizing in post looks great

    no 4 k 120p, no deal

    • @LAMARPLUSNIK
      @LAMARPLUSNIK  3 роки тому +5

      Fair enough, but if that’s the one feature you’re going for then you’ll end up compromising image quality to get it in most cases or you’ll be spending more money. And of course that’s fine, different tools for different jobs. Also no global shutter, which is something that I’m sure a lot of people don’t care as much about but it’s definitely awesome and something to weigh along side with the other features!

      I could have been very happy with an FX6 but ProRes raw doesn’t want to play nice and let me use it in DaVinci.
