I still want to do some more tests of the global shutter. It’s one of those things that has been hyped for a decade but we rarely see any samples of why it matters
Tyler Stalman I feel it in the footage. It’s why I chose to shoot on digital Bolex for several shoots back in the day. Has a cinematic feel that’s truly special! Can’t wait to see your results bro

Love global shutter improving, getting global shutter without impacting noise affecting DR, ISO, colors is so wanted. The Komodo looks so cute. RF Mount is a weird choice; e-mount has much more lenses, especially for APS-C / Super35 size

This looks like a great option for anyone who hasn't really invested into any certain camera brand. Love how they had the Canon integration as that what most people start off with so upgrading to this camera just makes sense. Would love to see RED come out with a better auto focus in future updates. This camera would be great to take this on wedding shoots with me though if the auto focus ain't there I don't think this will be an investment for me. Still, its really awesome to see red reaching into this market. Can't wait to see what they come up with next. Great video and great review.

Good review. Keep it up! Was nice to se some continues autofocus action in there. Wish I had that. Perhaps in dsmc3. Hoping we could use the gyroscope for post stabilizing etc.

Absolutely! Go make stuff with what you got! Gather round your friends and family and make films on you phone, or whatever you go laying around. Learn composition, storytelling, lighting, editing. These are all things that have a minimal buy in and can serve you well into your career!

@@WesleyProductions I started out learning the wrong software (Windows Movie maker, lol). For editing, coloring, and anything you need, download Davinci Resolve (It's free!!). This is a major part of actual productions. Looks overwhelming, but lots of tutorials online on how to get you through it and start playing around on it.

Probably will never get one. But it’s amazing. It’s one of those cameras that is just beyond your reach but close enough to you that it hurts not to be able to get it hahahahaha. I love it.
Can you use an eyepiece viewfinder with this camera? I like having both the LCD screen and an eyepiece.

Great review of the camera! Definitely going to rent one of these and consider moving from Sony. Question - what is your reasoning for shooting at 40fps? Is that for effect? Because cinema projection is still 24, and US TV distro is still at 29.97. Unless you're only shooting for youtube?
Hey Dave. Great review! At one part you say that in 4k prores the camera does not crop the full sensor but downsamples the 6k to 4k. I couldn’t find that info anywhere on the RED page. Thats a true selling point. Means 4K prores 422HQ 60fps on Full Sensor. Can you confirm this for me? Thx

Great review. How does the smallhd monitor control the camera? There is no ctrl input on the Komodo....also for your audio test, how high did you set the pre amp gain with the deity?
We have to wait and see. The SmallHD monitor for red is still on pre order. I think it goes into the camera over the EXT input? Check it out in our kit.co link above!

Yes it would...but the global shutter, weight savings, and what not is pretty good eh? how often do you do high frame rates?
@@indymogul I agree. I don't go out and shoot nearly as much as I want to, since it's so bulky and annoying to just "grab and go". I don't do super HFR 'all the time', but having 300fps is nice when you need it!
Do the special editions offer anything special in spec or is it just the same as ST?

This camera reminds me of the Surface Duo. Both amazing ideas...if they came out 4-5 years ago. Now with the BMPCC 6K, the stuff from Panasonic, etc...I don’t know where it fits.
