Sharon (within temptation), Floor (Nightwish), Simone (Epica), Anneke...to name a few are all from the Netherlands, this country produced some of the best women in symphonic metal..God bless the Netherlands.

Sharon Del Arden is completely self taught. Never had any vocal training. She is also a fashion designer.
She did have vocal training between Mother Earth and The Silent Force. watch?v=KnkKejof2jk is Our Farewell sung with her vocal coach.
And she WAS at the conservatorium for about half a year (more or less, but not long enough to get serious practical training), before she had enough and left off to study fashion design. The Rock Academy that Floor went to wasn't even founded then (Floor was a fan of Sharon, and was unsure if she should go to the conservatorium, as she knew that Sharon skipped that).

Sharon is a goddess! You can rather agree with me or be wrong! I saw them last month and at 49 (Holly crap, she is gorgeous, some people don't age!) she blew me away again for the fourtheenth time! I fell for her 27 years ago and haven't recovered since!
Sharon has the most crystal perfect tones I've ever heard. I've been a fan since the Mother Earth album ... they are pure magic!
I've seen all the operatic metal ladies live in concert (well, most of them), and Sharon blew me away the most, even though she is not the most technical. She has a certain charisma that is indefinable
Great reaction guys, Within Temptation is an amazing band and Sharon is a great vocalist. She tried to get vocal training after the band got popular but vwasn't patient enough and quit, so she îs self-taught. I recommend Jillian live at the same concert, it's one of their best songs!

Those hand movements is what the old skool Sharon used to do. Idk if she still does it, I don’t follow them anymore, but god, this song brings back memories. The old WT was a huge part of my childhood. You should check out Mother Earth or Ice Queen, live or music video. They were their first hits
Those hand movements were inspired by an old dance form from Indonesia and IIRC there is a family connection on her side with Indonesia
I’ve never heard anyone suggest the Ice Queen music video. It’s laughably terrible.
I wouldn't recommend the videos either. Live versions from this concert or some other are almost always better. I consider "Mother Earth" from Black Symphony the quintessential symphonic metal song, that I would recommend to anyone who asks "What is symphonic metal?" I can't pick out a single Nightwish song that would be such a clear example of the genre.

She still does the Sharon dance in concerts, believe me! Saw them back in late 2018 in Paris, she's still slaying it with her voice and movements!! She didn't lose anything, she's trully a goddess!
It's hard to believe looking at her, and hearing her sing, but Sharon was VERY ill and had JUST gotten her voice back in time for the Black Symphony shows.
Also, she makes all of her own outfits. :D
I can see why some say they have strayed far from their Symphonic Metal roots these days - not that they are a bad band. They're very good. But this was excellent. More of this, please, WT!
Actually Sharon never liked that band got put under the label of symphonic metal. She thinks this hinders their creativity and they like to reinvent themselves over and over again. That being said ever album does have that recognizable Within Temptation sound.
I like Entertain You. Its a great message. That you don't have to please society just yourself.
Btw Sharon does not sing falsetto through the whole concert, she has a powerful belt, which is demonstrated in songs like 'The Haunting'
Also during the recordings for the concert she was coming down with a little cold, she was afraid it would influence the quality... judge for yourselves
And falsetto is male "voice"
What is really amazing is Sharon had completely lost her voice for two days leading up to the concert and was really worried that they would have to cancel, but on the morning of the voice returned and they were able to pull it off with great aplomb! The entire concert is fantastic. They didn’t consider the,selves “symphonic metal”, rather they preferred “symphonic rock”, but everyone called them a “symphonic metal” band so they just went with it 😀
Well they started with a doom touch and guy growling to go with her, so it's not a surprise they'd been put in the metal category. But it's true that they evolved a lot since and symphonic rock might define them better.
If you watch the interview with her on the bluray she says she skipped two rehearsals in the days before the concert but did the final rehearsal the day before the concert and says she strained her voice during that rehearsal. She had an infection but at no point does she say she had completely lost her voice.
They really are awesome live, especially at that black symphony performance .. and also have the best videoclips of the Dutch part of the genre, like 'angels'. They also did some nice songs with Keith Caputo, X-zibit and DJ. Armin van Buuren

OMG. If you do not know this band, it is a little shocking but there are from Netherlands. The Singer is self taught and one of the best vocalists in symphonic metal. Hugh amount of great songs. They are not as heavy as first couple albums but she is so talented that cannot go wrong with any their work. I saw them only twice and was a great experience. Fabulous musicians. They have been around 24 years.

You cannot get bored with Within Temptation :) Sharon is great frontwoman, she is very good at commanding the crowd. They are changing their style a lot but are always great, especially live. Hope you guys will check some more of WT
You're right, she is an amazing frontwoman!! She does this incredible "hand dancing" that just drives me crazy. Seen them live thrice her is Los Angeles ... I will never miss them when they come so far to play for me. Okay, for Los Angeles ... let me have my little fantasy.

Sharon is also from netherland just like who? yes just like Floor and Simone. This 3 powerhouse to women probably has the best voices (don't know many other) in netherland until today.

Symphonic metal is contagious, after found Nightwish back years ago then i found Epica and WT. Sharon is one of my favorite singer.
The intro of this concert is really epic.
There is a live version from 2002 Rock Werchter that's even more epic (vocal-wise). The Promise is just an epic song, Sharon is an epic singer

Best thing about Sharon is that shes even more beautiful inside than out. And shes stunningly beautiful on the outside.
Within Temptation at their peak. They had just released The Heart of Everything, and never were more symphonic metal than back then. In fact, THOE already contained first excursions into power metal (e.g. Final Destination) but their songs still had that epicness that The Promise (from the Mother Earth album) radiated. That era put WT on a same level as Nightwish, but while NW became even more epic with the switch to Floor Jansen as front singer, WT alas become more mainstream. Anyway, thx for this reaction vid and the resulting memories.

Recommended, the intro of the concert and the first song Ice Queen that’s bring you in the WT mood. I hope next year we can see their world tour together with Avenescence. When corona is over starting in Amsterdam. The power of this band, using a complete orchestra and choir.

Within Temptation is a great band. Sharon den Adel, the vocalist, is one of the best singer in this genre and one of the great Dutch four (Floor, Sharon, Simone and Anneke).
You can try almost every song from the Black Symphony concert, it was amazing.
