Whatever Happened to The Kendalls

- The history of Country Music is filled with toe-tappin’ sing-a-long songs. Country Music is also filled with cheatin’ songs. Put those two things together and what you have is a Grammy Award winning massive Country Music hit! That’s what happened in 1977.
You couldn’t get away from The Kendalls ‘Heaven’s Just A Sin Away’, and you didn’t want to. In fact, when it came on the radio, you just had to turn it up and sing along.
The Kendalls had other hits, over 30 that made the Country Music charts including two other #1 hit’s, ‘Sweet Desire’ and ‘Thank God For The Radio.’ But ‘Heaven’s Just A Sin Away’? Well that, as they say, is what’s called a ‘signature song’.
So whatever happened to the singers of that great classic, The Kendalls?

My dad was in love with them, NOW I can't get enough of them
Ditto! I remember watching them on Hee Haw too
Wow they had awesome music, loved all there songs
Country music ROCKS !!!
Thank you for sharing. They were indeed very humble
They were really down to earth country music duo and great music that. Their voices blended so well together
I loved them They were great
Like that DJ, I met the Kendalls plus Freddie Fender in 1979 in Brownwood TX.
I was DJing and MCing a Show at the Brown County Colliseum, and they were the Nicest folks you could ever meet...and Freddie Fender has a Super sense of Humor.
And an anecodote... Freddie has it written in his Appearance Contract that the Only thing he required was a Case of Cola...chilled of course...for his Road Crew, Nothing for him.
I will treasure that Memory forever.
Im a brazilian discoverying good music in youtube, before meeting something that i like i watch your videos. They are very informative... Thank you.
yes i miss them the best off all
Many people dont realize their last name wasnt Kendall, it was originally "Kuykendall" or something to that extend, i think it was dispute with record executives at the time over the name "Kuykendall" or something like that so they shortened their name to "Kendall"
Darren Crispin that’s funny. Bobby Dall, from Poison, is really Robert Kuykendall!
Kirkendall I think. I played in their band 1980-83. Just FYI.... "Pittsburgh Stealers" wasn't a #1, but "Sweet Desire" was (which Jeannie wrote).
I believe Royce had just appeared, or was set to appear, at the Miss Marquette riverboat in Marquette, IA at the time of his stroke. The closest hospital of any size at the time was in LaCrosse, WI. I seem to remember him actually passing away in LaCrosse.
Took care of Gran maw Ainley...back in the day as her nurse while in hospital...it was mom Kendals mom...got to meet the mom...such nice folks...
Royce's wife (Jeannie's mom) was Melba.
‘Heaven’s Just A Sin Away’ was recorded in my uncle's recording studio. George Lewis was his name. Do you by chance know anything about him? Thanks!!!
Wow thats so fricken cool, thank you!!!😀👍👌❤
Amazing! You mean the Kendall's version?? Wow. Totally cool. Awesome harmony. RIP Royce.
@@mathmusic1490 Yes sir, the Kendall's version. Thanks!!!
It's "Pop Country", and IMHO the hayday of C & W music (esp. compared to today's "Hillbilly Country" 😡) . I was fortunate enough to DJ it before i was even out of high school .. I'd like to know whatever happened to radio stations that played that format (e.g. the '70s-'80s or so)? I wonder if they could make a comeback if they went with it again today?
Did the Kendalls have a Road Band in the 70's & 80's ? If so. who were they. any Pictures ?
I played keys with them 1980-83. Really good road band.... but not the most fun I ever had on the road (if you get my drift)...
Duo? We always called it a Duet
A duo is two PEOPLE singing together, often in harmony. A duet is a SONG sung by two people. So the Everly Brothers were a duo, and they often sang duets.
The Ken Dolls?
They opened a chicken shack down near Foley Alabama and charged too much for a dinner and a show. The were part of what BNA calls the OHW, One Hit Wonder, Even though they had others up on the charts nothing to write home about.
Everyone to their own opinion, but I love The Kendalls.......saw them live.....have their songs on CD and in my FB saves.
I think you need to look up the definition of the phrase "one hot wonder" - just because "Heaven's Just A Sin Away" was such a monster song doesn't mean their other great releases weren't hits nonetheless; get ahold of one of their "Greatest hits" packages to be educated on their consistent excellence, sir.
@@jimzaharia5327 I thought it was a one hit wonder not one hot hit .
22 songs in top forty three number one hits eight other top tens and they were very good live performers
