i dont think anything is james proof, the man is a menace to himself and everyone around, he especially like to test rc planes and how well they smash into the floor XD
Kyle and Wyatt you guys are killing it on the Content the videos are just getting better and better you guys are awesome just absolutely love this channel more and more every time I watch it
Love how Brent and Jamie just did the same engine rebuild a couple of days ago and now you guys are doing it too. I was just watching Jamie struggle with the tool for putting the new keepers in with the help of Steve holding the head down and I was thinking that we need a better tool invented to install the keepers....next video Kyle using a tool that bolts to the head and uses power tool to push the springs down...umm...yeah that's what we need lol 😆
That springs compressor tool you’re referring to have been around for a few years now. I’m assuming Pfi just does it the less cost efficient way to show their viewers that you can assemble a head with tools you probably already have in your tool box and don’t need to buy these one off tools.
@gasparsperformance9841 Nah, the tool pfi was using is a special tool as well, it's like a rocker shaft with a prying tool, looks like it would work great with the head clamped down to a table
They should do a really cheap build with something like an ebay turbo, D15 and the usual poor mans mods like epoxy block guard :D To let us see how much power i'll hold before it blows up.
Thanks Kyle. Just thanks. Grateful for you guys. Appreciate the technical content and I love how you make it feel like anyone with a decent set of tools and a couple grand can build a decent k series engine that is “only 600 hp” like it’s nothing lol
It truly is that simple. Sometimes mistakes are made and you have to start over, other times everything works perfectly the first time. Either way you learn and move forward or sell all your stuff and get out of the game.
@@kxlucifer It's the perfect recipe for getting people into cars. Showing what you can achieve, that you don't need to spend a small fortune and you can more than adequately follow the process to do it yourself.
I wonder how many engine building videos I have watched on this channel. I almost think that I could do it if I had a stack of parts on a table. Keep up the good work.
I used to work in a motorcycle dealership and we had huge recall campaign to replace valve seals and cams to a roller setup due to inferior oiling to them. Originally that pertained taking the head off due to the valve springs needing to come off. Given the massive scale of it a time consuming undertaking. To cut time and actually profit off the skimpy return fees we hand made a tool similar to the one your using there. That plus adding air pressure through the spark plughole at TDC (to prevent the valves from dropping) meant we didn't have to take the head off any longer to the job. Easily cutting the needed time by 2/3rds .
For anyone wondering. There's an old scrap yard about 10 miles from me with a clapped out 91 AWD manual civic. The yard is closed now, but the owners still live there and they'll still do some business. If anyone wants it. It's in Earlsboro Oklahoma
That was a good demonstration of a home head refurb. FYI they make a specific tool for doing what you did with the socket, it's aluminum and has magnets that catch the retainers. I prefer to use a block of wood over a steal bench and rag, less chance of bending a valve. To take it up a level you could have the new springs tested for spring pressure and measure the stem height from the spring seat, that way you can shim the valves for the correct seat pressure.
I remember I think the 1st or 2nd C&C in Houston I went and I was talking to Kyle and he went and hooked up the sub in wago so I could hear it cause I was telling him how I had to 15" sundown lol he signed my hat too
The thing about upgrading springs but not the valves is that the spring pressure could be enough to rip the valve in half under high load high heat situations. There's shouldn't be any issue. But it's always a possibility
I'm probably your biggest fan and critic, boss... So let me tell you that your new format for filming is killing it! I hope you're seeing great results! One thing! New year, new clips in the intro/outro maybe. 🤷🏾♂️
Love this! Would be awesome to see you do a full how to guide series on a K20/K24 build start to finish. Just like your doing in this video with the head!
When you do the pour for the epoxy could you take small tubes and place them in the sugar first and then pour the epoxy that way you don't have to drill holes and then you can get better flow that way
I've never heard of that epoxy hack that's really cool. I'm not surprised because that stuff is actually super strong. Stronger than what most people think.
Nice to see Wago getting some love. “Again fast Wago make.” It kinda worked out perfectly. It’s a Japanese car, and Japanese people read from right to left. Lol.
Definatley keep wago as normal as possible, I love the clean stock interior look, just keep the interior how it is because it's really the cool part of the car
We used to "adapt" the valve lapper so we could get it into an electric drill and just run it forward and reverse a few times when we were seating valves. If you are careful and don't use too much pressure the suction cup will hold it.
@Levi Duff you were more ingenious than me all I did was pulled the suction cup off and whittled down the lapper until I could get it into the drill, your idea is much better as I think there was less chance of throwing the pitch of the valve seat off as you have added flexibility, well done you good thinking brother. I used Farecla cutting compound and then just used t-cut to smooth it, these were used because I was broke and its all I could find plus I am going back almost 40 years and I live in Scotland so we always had to make do with what you had or what we could borrow and as I said we were broke lol still am. Levi thank you so much for replying and all the best from Scotland brother.
That head and rusty valves definitely needed a machine shop, polishing the rust scale with a wire wheel is your weak link, to easy to get them shot peened for $30 when you drop it off to get decked anyways. Probably could have given it a quick gasket match port aswell. Cheers
it's a shame you aren't closer to me. i would have given those ports a little "love" just for the hell of it. i would have also gasket matched both the intake and exhaust ports. every little bit helps and doesn't take very long.
kyle, when you were gapping the rings i didnt see you squaring the rings to the bore before checking the gap. its not gonna make much of a difference (.001-.005") but when your trying to measure tolerances every little bit effects your measurements.
Just wondering, if you got the deck surfaced? why not overfill the apoxy so when you'd surfaced It'd be flat not concaved? wouldn't the water run all weird in that concaved apoxy area?

I miss the intro.
Same. Miss that outro.
I feel that's what brought me here years ago lol
ngl old intro/outro inspired me to work on my own honda back then when i had no idea about cars :D
Make wago Yoda again
The only way to know if it’s truly James proof, is to let James give it a rip 😂
Id like long term content… not a quick bang 🎉😂
Do this!!
I feel like you could set the limiter to 6500 and tune it for 300hp and James would still find a way to make rod leave block hahahaha
Can't wait! xD
