The Provisionals launched the mortars through the roof of a van parked nearby, with some landing and exploding in the gardens of No10 as Prime Minister John Major met with his War Cabinet.

It used to snow in London then!
Oh wow, I forgot what winters used to be like.
Isn't it scary to see how much weather patterns have changed 😬
It no longer snows In England?
@@cannibalholocaust3015Dunno but here we used to get thick snow for days or weeks at a time. Now we're lucky to get one day a year of snow and almost never enough to lie.

0:40 the bald man with the glasses running away from the burning van is Peter Gurney MBE. He was a bomb disposal officer for 40 years (most of the time active throughout the troubles) and later wrote a autobiography published in 1993 called ‘Braver Men Walk Away’.
It’s an absolute masterpiece and is defo worth a read.
I shall read that . Thanks
I recall him on other reports shouting at people to get away from the area..
'It was a remarkably good aim if you consider that the bomb was fired 250 yards [across Whitehall] with no direct line of sight. Technically, it was quite brilliant and I'm sure that many army crews, if given a similar task, would be very pleased to drop a bomb that close. You've got to park the launch vehicle in an area which is guarded by armed men and you've got less than a minute to do it. I was very, very surprised at how good it was. If the angle of fire had been moved about five or ten degrees, then those bombs would actually have impacted on Number Ten' Peter Gurney
Thanks for this - I had a read at the kindle sample of this book and its amazing so i'll be buying it. Always astounded at the bravery of the ATO's
@@kailashpatel1706 We had hundreds of years to prepare for this moment. Pity they missed.
The massive man hunt is still ongoing to this day ! 😅😅 ! Some lads operate in ulster Ireland and the uk for 25 years and never spent one day in jail and done more damage than anyone !
they're british assets they're allowed to cause damage so the brits can say they have to be there to fight them nevermind all the raw minerals they stole from ireland, those jellied ammonia nitrate explosives were from mining they used their own materials against them
Home made mortars. Imagine what could have been done with regular weapons.
they had regular weapons supplied by libya and other countries, they even had thompson machine guns and the armalite ar180
That volunteer had balls as big as a bull. Salute to all the volunteers. Makes me proud to be half Irish. T.A.L. And enjoy your summer.
🇮🇪🇮🇪💚
An officially trained mortar crew with modern mortars could not have done much better in the same circumstances. Necessity is the mother of invention. And there are still British people who insist that we did the things we did because we were bad people. They attacked, we merely did any man's duty when foreign troops occupy their country and fought back. This war was brought to us. What would an English man do if the roles were reversed?
Erm, no. The IRA are not a legitimate army or government, they were the Irish answer to ISIS.
Facts brother one had the god given right to defend there homes and there family’s🇮🇪 don’t ever let them shame us the shame is all on them
So you call targeting civilians with remote controlled IEDs “warfare”? Get outta here…And FYI no English people that give a damn about Ulster; you could have it back tomorrow. I’ve met Scottish loyalists but never, in all of my 42 years, did I ever meet an English loyalist.
@@SG-wx8zm But those heroes in the British army can kill from miles away with drones and they're brave soldiers. Yes? As for English loyalists, I grew up surrounded by them. Also, you don't have 'Ulster'. You have six counties out of the nine that make up Ulster. You don't have much of a clue about anything at all. Do you?
I’m not British (incidentally the mainland U.K. contains two other countries besides England) and I can confirm that people who use remote controlled explosive devices to kill civilians, including children and women are BAD people. You didn’t just attack military or government targets; you planted shrapnel filled bombs in areas packed with civilians in what was a deliberate attempt to cause maximum carnage? What did 3 year old children have to do with your war? You brave “freedom fighters” murdered countless innocent people who had nothing to do with the military or the government; you abducted and murdered a single mother from her home leaving her 10 children alone in the house with no food, not knowing when she was coming back (her body was found 40 years later because you were too cowardly to reveal its location). You bombed shopping centres full of children and families, you bombed pubs and restaurants full of teenagers enjoying a night out. And the REALLY sickening thing is that you have the NERVE to call yourselves Roman Catholics; how DARE you. Your American sponsors (NORAID) got a taste of what they were funding on 9/11. If you really ARE Catholic, then you will stand before your creator one day to give an explanation for these acts and why you supported them. Good luck with that.

@Winahh Taylahh it was the south armagh brigade IRA, an effective unit...they had the British army traveling only by helicopter in that area, an extremely hostile place.......the most heavily militarised zone in western Europe at the time

@@Sean-sn9ld yes, you know your history....don't think they ever used Sam missiles tho, only heavy machine guns .. remember reading the Sam's were useless something to do with the battery in them and lack of training amongst members
