Arosa Line Review ~ Train Sim World 3

  • Rivet Games have made both of the only two Swiss routes in Train Sim World, but in my opinion, neither of them are anywhere near good. Today, we look at the narrow-gauge Arosa Line and see just how bad it is. Suffice to say, this was a great concept ruined by lazy execution.
This route is only 26 kilometres long and runs through very mountainous terrain from Chur to Arosa (two towns in the southeast of Switzerland), with a track gauge of one metre and a ruling gradient of 1 in 17. The only locomotive included with the add-on is the Rhätische Bahn 'GE 4/4 ii'.

The passengers that want to get off at a request stop can press a button "Request Stop" in the carriages. This will illuminate a button (marked "H") in the cab of the Loco.

I find it extremely hilarious that Skyhook and Dovetail will go out of there way to create re-skins for locomotives behind a pay wall, while you can just get them for free in the creators club.

Your analogy reminds me of the situation with payware scenarios in TS classic. Why pay for a scenario (or a scenario pack) when you can just as good - if not, better - scenarios for free?

I think you should have also mentioned awful physics of the locomotive. The loco's acceleration is totally unrealistic because the loco doesn't have inertia. It's a simple script that accelerates you to 5 km/h for about 3-4 seconds ignoring the weight of the cars and even reverse speed (!) If you drive backward. E.g. your train moves backward at 20 km/h than you put the reverse handle to the forward and set the controller to the 0.5 position. Your train instantly speeds up from -20 km/h to +5 km/h. A funny thing is the cars have adequate physics, so, they derail and the game is over. And TSW is a train simulator... I believe DTG has to check up at least basic physics of trains in the 3rd party DLCs.

I wasn't aware of how bad the physics are. Dovetail needs to have better quality control, especially where the 3rd party stuff is concerned.

That's something I forgot to mention, but I agree. It's annoying to see their branding all throughout the coaches.

I also think that it's annoying. Thsi also isn't just the Problem on Arosa line the same thng also appears in the KISS EMUs on the S-Bahn Zentralschweitz (that I regret and also wouldn't recommend buying unless there is a huge discount or you REALLY want a line with ETCS).

I refuse to buy S-Bahn Zentralschweiz for one simple reason; at a measly 16 miles long, it's far too short.

@@DC4260ProductionsThat too, but I still like to run a service on that line from Time to time even with the short length, no variety of rolling stock and the short time to cover the route. It kind of feels like a worse version of the Hauptstrecke Rhein-Ruhr Add-Onn. By the way the destenation boards are the same as on the german routes. I don't know how accurate that is as i have not been to switzerland but I think it's unlikely that the SBB uses them.

The way you uncouple to switch ends is accurate. Personally I've never seen cab cars beeing used in the line

Stunning line this (the real one). The stations and fittings (even the seats) look good here. Yes a shame no Allegra and more freight wagons, which are quite common on the RhB as the Ge 4/4ii are very rare on this line now (weekend snow specials only in winter) and odd to see the panorama wagon in winter! Passengers press a 'halt auf verlangen' button at the end of each carriage (or at the stations).

One thing I expect from a new Swiss route (if they decide to make one) is a severe punishment for being late, since Swiss trains in real life are very punctual. Same goes for Japan. Of course, they have to make proper timetables for this to work.

  • @potatoman451

In regards to rolling stock, it is not really viable for a small team like rivet to create multiple types of rolling stock. It's already a ton of work to make 1, so expecting 2 and a bunch of other freight wagons and coaches to make it like tsc is unrealistic.
This route is interesting and unique but the sounds and physics and general slowness of patches and lack of communication by rivet are the main reasons I don't like playing. Their recent update to arosa line didn't actually include all of them and I posted it on forums and they have only acknowledged it

When someone woants to drive the Arosa Line in any Train Sim: then that for Train Simulator Classic. Fare better created than this TSW-version. Overall: Rivet Games and TSW - until now not a very good combination
