I started following your business journey during the lockdown in 2020.
At the time, you inspired me to open up my own Etsy shop! Started off with a Cricut machine because you were making your stickers using the same machine!
Fast forward to today, I own 2 business, formed an LLC, sold at numerous NYC street fairs, and I recently made the decision to involve a 3rd party supplier to help produce my goodies since it’s been really hard managing orders while having a full-time career.
I still aspire to quit my day job one day! But I’m glad I get to express my creativity through my Etsys!
Even after 4 years, I still watch all your videos while I design products and pack orders 🫶🏼💞

what is going on? why are you not quitting your job???? its like having children, you can't overly plan for it or you will miss the boat. Just jump in and think about it later.

I am 1 year in and I am just starting to grow my brand. 1 to 5 sales a month is really successful for only having 11 listings. (one new listing a month) You are planning out the rest of your life. One step at a time, be grateful for the chance to even do this. I failed at 4 business ideas. I look back and realize it wasn't the business idea that failed, it was my passion for it that didn't grow. you have to find something you truly love doing. That can see yourself doing for the long run.

When you say zero experience, that is not quite right, you studied graphic design. That is a major start for what you are doing.

Zero experience isnt quite the same as zero skill of zero training. Experience is easiest understood as doing and training is generally understood as learning.

Agreed. I studied computer arts and design and we literally had a whole module about marketing yourself and your art. So I'm sure they had something similiar if they studied graphic design. Zero experience isn't what she had but it looks better on a youtube title. Regardless of that, it's nitpicky and it's very kind of her to make this video for us and share her experiences and tips! :)

Only discovered Catherine and Katnip over 18months and watched all of the videos. And I loved it 😊Everybody has a journey and I love how it has turned out. My journey was in 2011 and I learned so much. Don't forget to use your local Library as this is where you can find Workshop Classes, Influential people who come to share their stories. Its quite easy when you know how 😊and you can teach others too. Being resourceful you become aware of the journal you want to take as a creative business owner. I had to closed down for a short while during the Pandemic and losing my mum due to me being carer but on our way back up thanks to watching Katnipp to trigger that dream needing fulfilling 😊

@KatnippStudios Thanks for your condolences 🙏 Yep it's been quite hard it has but I'm always determined to do something that I love. 😊 I feel very seasoned indeed. And creativity is within me. I went straight into Limited Companies straight away and my daughter is also one of the directors so she was dealing with paperwork plus losing her nana 😒 Juggling her part time job at the time and then redundancy twice to full-time work, studying law with more businesses she created. It takes such strong structured foundational plans in place but yes we are on our back up. It's not the easiest journey but we have had fun too. Thank you for being inspirational too from the screen 😊👍

    • @dianamorales7335

I have problems with the shipping part..like how do I know how much extra money should I add on my items if I want to add shipping in the price.
And with the items just look around online or in Walmart and start comparing prices 😊
And this is an opinion and just learn what that syndrome is..but maybe like record yourself doing the stuff so ubgot something to look at? Idk...just help ya 😅

I did the same thing, where I dropped to part time in my main job so I could focus on my business, exactly the same as you, to dedicate those two days strictly to my business and then about a month in I found out I was pregnant (which was a good thing as we were trying for that) but I was getting so tired, I didn’t have the energy to put time into it. Now my daughter is 9 months old and I have completely lost direction for my business. But I love my daughter so much and wouldn’t change it for the world ❤❤ one day I’ll get my direction back!

Hi Catherine, Ive been watching you since 2019 when I started trying to survive off of my art as well. You've been a huge source of inspiration for me over the years and I often love watching your videos when I have breakfast. As for myself I've been supporting myself from my art since 2020, granted I live in a lower income country and we don't need as much to get by. I totally agree with you on the multiple sources of income, this is an absolute must for me after my Etsy started declining a bit last year and I realised it was too risky to rely too much on one thing. I've now added three more income streams and it's such a relief.
I super loved seeing how Katnipp evolved and is completely different from when you started as I think it shows growth and is a really realistic thing a lot of us go through.
Also I loved your pink hair in that clip ha ha, so cool! Can't wait to see how Katnipp evolves in the future too!

You've been part of my morning routine for YEARS - I watch Katnipp among other creators with my morning coffee and now my 5 year old daughter really likes to see what cute little characters you're doing next! A lot of your videos swayed me to finally purchase an iPad Pro & getting Procreate after being a Wacom/Sketchbook pro for ages! While I'm not super confident yet, I can see the improvements in my art since switching over to Procreate & watching your creative process.

OMG!! It took me halfway through the video to realize who you were! And I so apologize for this, but I was watching this while working and heard you voice and thought it sounded so familiar and then you said the name “Katnipp” and I was like WHY do I know this name?! And then you showed an old clip and I was like holy cow!! I haven’t seen one of your videos in yrs (I haven’t spent much time on UA-cam) and I didn’t recognize you, I’ve always thought you were so beautiful and I always LOVED your videos and your personality! I lived off your videos when I was starting out back in 2017 up until roughly 2021 when my life went through some major changes and my shop unfortunately had to take a back seat to life. I’m SOOO happy to see you’re still around and doing sooo well!

Aaah it's so lovely for you to share all of this Catherine, and it's been wonderful to watch you grow Katnipp! I've been with you since 2018 cheering you on and recently went full time myself, you've been an inspiration to so many of us over the years and continue to do so! I was wondering, what made you choose to go limited so early on when you went full time, what sort of things made you sway towards limited? Looking forward to your next video as always 🌟

What a great story. Very well done. I admire your work ethic. All of you; you are a very inspirational team who show us in your videos just what sinking your heart and soul into something can achieve.
Your weigh loss is worth recognition, too - both you and Dean look so, so much healthier. 👍

The scariest thing to me is trying to understand the businessey business stuff. Taxes, shipping, international shipping, cost of production vs cost of sale, how to price fairly but for profit as well. its all so confusing!

Catherine, I think you are wonderful, and you bring a smile to my face - nothing I have seen so far from your early videos is cringy. I am currently watching every one of your videos in order (apart from your Florida trip that I binged this morning). I have a pad and pen at my side when I am watching you, taking notes to help me on my dream. I can't draw, so I will need to source that work, but I have other craft skills that I will draw on(ha ha). Your experience and knowledge is very transferrable to other work streams. You make me smile, and I start every day with my morning coffee and an episode or two before my kids get up and I have to get ready for work. I have always had the itch to do something myself, but so much has got in the way over the years, so now is my time. I hope my girls develop the drive that I see in you. Sharon

Hey there!! I'm from the US and one of the things that is holding me back from fully diving into my business is the backend tax stuff. Now I know I'm in the US and you are in the UK, so it'll be different, but I'd be so interested in how you do all that stuff. Plus the way you make your videos and describe things would make this topic enjoyable and very digestible. :)
