This is why NBC should bid to get the NBA back. Just better presentation and it would help the struggling NBC sports network. Who would't want to see Ahmad Rashad back?
I would love hearing Bob Costas provide a dramatic storyline (no matter how much of a stretch) along with the "Roundball Rock" theme for every game. Nobody did it better.
Did the sensational young talent Kobe Bryant answer the bell? Hell yeah! 25 pts 11 reb 7 assists and 4 blocks 47% from the field. Played 47 of 48 minutes.
But let’s not forget how dominant Shaq is as well. They both needed each other though. As even key roleplayers like Horry can make or break a championship team.
I was around 6 months old when this game happened. Even though I was technically ALIVE for this, getting to experience that intro, and even watching the highlights is so cool to me.
Without a doubt the toughest loss I have EVER experienced!! 17 years later and it still bothers me when I think about it! But the Lakers were a great team!
@@VicInNocal If Oden had stayed healthy, he was a beast when he played. There were no indications at the time that he was injury prone like with Bowie. You called it. Hindsight is 20/20. @@Andy-qn5xi No question they would’ve beaten Indiana in the finals especially with the momentum they would’ve carried into the finals after coming back to beat the Lakers. Even after 24 years I STILL can’t believe they let a 15 point 4th quarter lead slip away!
I remember that game and growing up Rip City that was a painful game. I had graduated high school the year before and moved to the Portland area to go to school. I remember that game being on a weekend and a lot of us students went to the rec room to watch the game. Most of us had grown up in Oregon myself included. So most of us had been raised Blazers Maniacs. I remember how nearing the end of the game we had held a nice double digit lead. My friend and I were so convinced we would be in the NBA Finals they jumped into my arms. I also remember all of us feeling devastated at the end. It was almost as if someone in school had just died. Regardless of that experience good year or bad I’m forever Rip City. The 2019 WCF did hurt especially being swept by Golden State. But it didn’t sting quite as bad because at least they lost to the Raptors in the Finals.
NBA on NBC could get you hyped for even one of the lamest match ups in the league and made you still wanna watch. That's how good it was. ABC can make Heat vs Lakers seem dull.
+XxfunkypandaxX23 Downtown L.A was fixed up tremendously in the 2000s. Which has been a good thing because in the 90s Downtown L.A was a hot bed for crime and poverty. Especially after the riots and the Northridge earthquake.

I had season seats and was at this game. When the Lakers made their big 4th quarter comeback, it was so loud that I couldn’t even hear my own voice yelling at the top of my lungs. Great memories.
Rooting for Portland. This was a devastating G7 Loss by Dunleavy and Co. Props to the Lake Show here. They came back and deserved the win big time. Man I love this intro. Bob Costas and his historical context personality. Such great memories.
The 2000 Lakers were really tested throughout the Playoffs specifically this series. After the gained the 3-1 lead we assumed the Lakers would finish off the Blazers. But, give Portland credit for showing their heart led by Pippen and after losing games 5 and 6 the old problems were starting to come back during 1997-1999. We really questioned the Lakers resolve to really come back from adversity situations heading into Game 7 but the Lakers showed their armor although it took 3 quarters in GM7
Three games in laker lore that will always stand out for me.. 2010 nba finals game 7. 2004 game 5 ;aka the 0.4 game; and this game. And this game is at the very top over the other two. First time in my lifetime seeing the lakers get to the finals and the biggest feeling was this was the true nba finals that year.
As a Blazer fan this was the most intense game of my entire life. I actually could not believe Portland had a lead in this game. Amazing game. Horrible finish. Sheed didn't get the ball enough in the 4th.
Portland woulda, coulda, shoulda won. Shaq even said he thought they were beaten in an interview....so did Reggie miller. Funny how things work out. That's why sports are so great. You never know what wI'll happen.

@svtxchinoy I think TNT does a pretty damn good job. Lots of great video packages, great pre-shows and after shows, and lots of hype to get you ready for a game, especially during the playoffs. Sure it doesn't have the nostalgia of NBC yet, but the quality of their presentation shouldn't be ignored.
Blazers didn't win that year. But they had what it took to push the series to 7 games against a Lakers team that was 1st in the West and a 65-17 record. I knew that Scottie Pippen couldn't win a title without his old buddy Michael Jordan.

I started following the Blazers during this era, mainly because my cousin and late uncle live(d) there. I live near San Diego, but in basketball, my heart belongs to Portland. But I agree with you, we got the makings to do great things.

The Blazers collapse up 16 with 2 minutes left was equivalent to the Warriors blowing a 3-1 series lead in the Finals.
But unlike the Blazers, the Warriors overcame their 3-1 collapse in the 2016 NBA Finals with back-to-back NBA titles in 2017 and 2018.
