No cares for me I'm happy as I can be I learn to love and to live Devil may care No cares and woes Whatever comes later goes That's how I'll take and I'll give Devil may care When the day is through, I suffer no regrets I know that he who frets, loses the night For only a fool, thinks he can hold back the dawn He was wise to never tries to revise what's past and gone Live love today, let come tomorrow or May Don't even stop for a sigh, it doesn't help if you cry That's how I live and I'll die Devil may care
Brilliant, talented, beautiful ladies who can LEAD a band of first rate, veteran musicians is a joy to witness, and uncommon. Emmylou Harris and Alison Krauss also come to mind. Diana's command of the piano, and the jazz catalog in general, is nothing short of thrilling. I pray that this lovely lady has a very long and prosperous career. There's no such thing as too much of this!!!
The things I love about Diana is that she basically beats every jazz singer in this domain, because not only she has a great voice, but plays piano wonderfully, and goes on creating wonderful musical compositions and improvisations reaching real Jazz elements. At times I think she is the bridge uniting Modal Jazz and vocal more popular version of Jazz.
I saw her play to a sell-out 150 seat small Pub called the Senator in east Toronto, in June 1996. There is simply no other female jazz singer/jazz pianist extraordinaire alive today like her. This is my favorite number on the album although she is par excellent throughout the entire performance. You just don’t see any women playing piano like this who also have the Julie London vocal sound…oh, only if Julie could have played piano too Anthony Wilson's superb guitar improv & entire group shine!
I feel it is too fast...she loses a lot of the meaning of the concepts and words as it is hard to understand what she is saying...Tom Wopat does it better.

For my money, the best on the whole Paris Live set.- certainly Diana's best piano. Classic, timeless jazz.

She's fantastic!... they all are a pleasure to listen to... thank God for real musicians!

"jazz music is one of the greatest things mankind achieved"
Well said! Such great musicians in Krall's band... wow!
this is frankly the best modern interpretation of a jazz classic. think this could easily be my favourite track on the whole album
Oh Diana . . . you always know how to make an evening sound better. :)
I'm astounded that only 27,039 people have listened to this!!
Magic stuff .. no demons here .. just a touch of heaven! Love it!

Damn these guys are tight. It must be fun to make music as perfectly as this.
Love how the first double time feel is just pure bass. Mr Clayton is one of the most melodic players I honestly sing his parts in my head.
Jazz isn't just music, it's art!

Devil May Cry*
demons?

The drums should not lead... the singer leads the orchestra or band. They follow... at least that is the way it is supposed to be.
Perhaps because she is a pianist too. Pianist thinks differently than vocalists... She sings this as if a pianist plays it.
Well, guess she goes to the point of the song... devil may care, and the song is messy and beautiful ;)
