Here's the thing about Diana Krall: beyond her unreal musicianship, there's something more: she makes you believe she is feeling every word she is saying. Not too many singers can do that.
This is classic dinah krall music. She is a master at this. She is gonna go down as the greatest women of love songs of all time. Dinah. Keep rocking on. God bless you. And keep sending positive messages to all of us.
Oh My gosh I forgot how beautiful her voice is. so soothing. If you have every lost someone to someone else and you want to relive your heartbreak this is it. My heart breaks again. The pictures are great as well. This is the kind of song that makes you want to wallow in your loneliness. give me a rainy day and my dog and a fireplace. Have we all been hurt?
Can't tell you how many times I've "night dreamed" to this song in my camp in Northern Vermont, sitting in my rocker with a beer and simple oil lamp on, in the middle of no where. If that is not total relaxation, then nothing is!
This is a beautiful classic song that goes back to 1947. Since then many well known Artists have recorded the song, but Diana Krall's voice does it best on this one. Love it.
A very close re-enactment of the "Live in Paris" concert DVD. The song just slays me. Every single time. "Some day, if all my prayers are answered, I'll hear a footstep on the stair." Hope really is a fragile but beautiful thing.
I had short love affair with someone that I really loved, not so long ago but it ended due to a facts that we both were married and not with each other. Still it gave to me beautiful memories and this song is something that bring back memories of that "forbidden" love. The situation in my life was just so that I needed that love affair and so it was from the opposite side. It is over and I won´t regret while I know it was wrong.
I love how you say the song slays you every time. My sentiments exactly. I am studying this one right now to perform on my electric with vocals. Her phrasings are pretty amazing.
The more I listen, the more I love this lady. Truly reaching the 'Zenith' of sultry jazz singers. She makes it sound so easy! She has the 'Midas' touch - everything she touches turns to gold, and I love her for it! Just the best!
Oh My gosh I forgot how beautiful her voice is. so soothing. If you have every lost someone to someone else and you want to relive your heartbreak this is it. My heart breaks again.
This masterpiece fills me,but saddens me at the same time and wishing "Maybe You'll Be There" someday again.Thank you for sharing 30 yrs of your life with me "ARELI".Good luck in all your future endeavours.
This is one of my favorites on her Look of Love album. She does a superb job singing the lyrics and the strings add that special misty dimension...you can almost visualize the street lamps....Russell's guitar stylings complements her voice at the break with smooth subtle jazz chords..the ending leaves you in suspension...and the strings bring it home.
Love this video. Perfectly mated to the song (thanks, Michael1608). Frank Sinatra did a lovely version of this one. But for years this has been my favorite rendition of a great standard. As I type this Siriusly Sinatra satellite radio's "The Chairman's Hour" is playing this version of MAYBE YOU'LL BE THERE. The arrangement by Claus Ogerman helps make this, I believe, the best orchestral presentation this great ballad ever had (or ever will again?) . As if to underline that opinion, we hear Frank's voice, by way of introduction say, "Here's one of the newer sounds . . . " Noe Berengena pointed to the poignant concluding words of this great song "Someday, if all my prayers are answered . . . I'll hear a footstep on the stair. With anxious heart I'll hurry to the door, and maybe . . . you'll be there? Wiki entry states: "Maybe You'll Be There" is a popular song composed by Rube Bloom, with lyrics written by Sammy Gallop. The song was published in 1947. The recording by Gordon Jenkins was released by Decca Records as catalog number 24403. It first reached the Billboard magazine Best Seller chart on June 11, 1948 and lasted 30 weeks on the chart, peaking at #3. This recording was Jenkins' first charting record. The vocal on that recording featured the piano player Charles La Vere. It has become a pop standard, recorded by many artists since its composition, with a well-known recording being by The Four Aces. Celebrated at "The Chairman's Hour -- Sinatra Family -- Forum sinatrafamily.com/forum/showthread.php/31199-The-Chairman-s-Hour-on-Sirius/page31
Your pictures don't spoil anything, they're very nice and fit the music. Very nice guitar interlude! I love this sad song but it always makes me cry! Diana does it justice, one of her better recordings, I like her low voice and she plays a great jazz piano. Great pic of the profile couple against the moon at 3:55. great orchestra also.
Wow what a Beautiful Song. They don't write lyrics like this any more. Diane Krall is one of my favorite jazz singers. THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing..The pictures really helped tell the story.
Oh! Paulla - When I visit Batley / Dewsbury -Sit and watch hoping you would be there ? ... ...Just like you did way back then - When you waited out side HMV for me ! - Why has fate been so cruel to us ? One day maybe ? Thankyou for sharing this wonderful song !
Haay....I'm back a year later...noticed my last comment. This song pulls at my heart strings. I neglected to mention a year ago, that this song is for the love of my life, he has since passed away. Before he left though...I was wishing maybe he'd be there.
Sincerely hope you're a bit better now, Juanita, it's really very difficult to lose someone, through a love affair that's been torn apart or a loved one who's died. But time does help, hang in there.
Reading your evocative words while listening to this poignant ballad. Diana Krall's version is, I think, the best -- surpassing even Sinatra's (which was set to a lesser arrangement, than the one here by Claus Ogerman). Thanks for sharing, Juanita Jordan' Joyner. Just left a note of my own on the song from the year of my birth.
Thanks for this!!! Gosh I love her!...saw her here in Chicago in June...wow. This song is fab and The Look of Love CD is tremendous..I call it my New York experience (that hasn't happened yet)..sigh
I love this song -- prefer Sinatra, but her's is a very nice rendition, probably my second favorite; she plays a great piano and I really like her contralto voice, but I wonder, if she, like the great Julie London, smokes -- she doesn't have great breath control, but her octave jumps (like at 3:56) are right on pitch, very nice. I'll return to hear this again, thanks for posting!
Agree with you that Diana's and Frank's are the best. But her arranger Claus Ogerman surpassed in beauty the orchestration Sinatra enjoyed. Earlier this hour, on Siriusly Sinatra's 'The Chairman's Hour' program, we hear Frank's voice introduce this version by Diana with the words: "Here's one of the newer sounds!"
Hi, Lynniemat: After reading your very touching memento about your late husband, I had my own private 'melt-down' about MY wife who went to Heaven 2 years ago!! THANK YOU for your sharing. May your Greater Being continue to shine on you and your family.
I've loved this song since I heard it on the cd on day 1...and your pictures are sublime...accentuates this song perfectly...absolutely perfect imagery to music
+Juanita Jordan Well for me that song really touch me because it remind's me just how much I've messed up a good thing . Also sometimes we want say thing's and the words don't come out right so this is what i did on valentine day i expressed my emotions through that song . And even though she's far away she felt me !!!!!
this song is from "the look of love", i think diana krall's best album. she's magnificent at interpretation of the songs of the "great american songbook." how can you not feel the emotion in her song?
I've never been in a relationship, but it looks as though I feel a sickness in my heart, that I cling so much to the possibility of finding someone, and I know it's surreal, but when I listen to a song like that I have the idea that I'm enraptured to somebody I've never even met in my life (and possibly doesn't even exists). I guess I pretty much idealize everything and only think of love as something to happen in fantasy. Sometimes it feels like my heartbreak is inherent of a past life.
@Gurra88 I am with you...I have been a Rocker for over 40 years. Mostly Progressive Metal. But...Oh man...I love Jazz. I was stunned the first time I heard Diana...and this is my fave by her She is so talented.
@@SuperCarver2011 is right: Russell Malone and yes, a Gibson L-5 (like Wes always played. Craig Bell is also right that Anthony Wilson did a gorgeous solo of his own on the Live in Paris DVD. An extravagance of riches!
@Lynniemat Thanks. I do play Diana's Maybe you'll be there" on my jazz guitar. Still learning the complex chords, but the melody line is simple. " Each time I see a crowd of people,Just like a fool I stop and stare It's really not the proper thing to do, But maybe you'll be there." It's that feeling one gets when you have really lost your best friend in life and I just lost my best friend recently. Anyway, the days of wine and roses, is a Wes Montgomery jazz tune from Boss Guitar album.
This song resonates with me. When you part ways with someone special, you envision them in the places you once shared. Beautiful tune.
Here's the thing about Diana Krall: beyond her unreal musicianship, there's something more: she makes you believe she is feeling every word she is saying. Not too many singers can do that.
I love her voice!
The strings, the voice & the guitar make it. Diana Krall raw, beautiful & a talent. I love to hear her sing, play and smooth the notes out.
This is classic dinah krall music. She is a master at this. She is gonna go down as the greatest women of love songs of all time. Dinah. Keep rocking on. God bless you. And keep sending positive messages to all of us.

Yes incredibly hurt. But now have been married for years and very happy life. Her music is gorgeous . If not her song Still gorgeous by her!
"With an anxious heart I will run to the door and maybe you'll be there."
I know that feeling. Beautiful words.
How lucky we are that Diana had decided to do the standards. Just lovely.
such poignant and moody lyrics that are a perfect match to her lovely phrasing.
Can't tell you how many times I've "night dreamed" to this song in my camp in Northern Vermont, sitting in my rocker with a beer and simple oil lamp on, in the middle of no where. If that is not total relaxation, then nothing is!
Marty -thanks for the vision
This is a beautiful classic song that goes back to 1947. Since then many well known Artists have recorded the song, but Diana Krall's voice does it best on this one. Love it.
You said it so perfectly, Marilyn D. Thanks for the informed note.

Noe Berengena Yes, I so agree
I adore this song. My great love died and it reminds me of him?
I had short love affair with someone that I really loved, not so long ago but it ended due to a facts that we both were married and not with each other. ...this song is everything I do in my mind about the one I let go...and no-one could sing it with more smooth pain than Diana...

Probably my favorite song off her "Look Of Love" album. It hurts every time, but it's a good, and bittersweet pain. Simply beautiful.
hard to find great songs like this one thanks for your excellent delivery

we've all been there - this song captures our lost loves forever. and, gotta say diana krall's take on this is the best.

Very well down Michael. Love your picture show. This song is so touching. Ms. Krall is one classy lady.
Along with the beautiful voice of Diana Krall, the loved and filled with tone Russell Malone on guitar.
Thanks for the informed note. Russell and a Gibson L-5 like Wes played.

Anthony Wilson's Fender guitar is magical
That's Russell Malone's guitar. I think it was a Gibson L5.
Craig Bell has likely seen the "Live in Paris" DVD, where Anthony Wilson accompanied on guitar. This studio version sounds so much like it.
Whoever is playing the guitar, it's very classy, just a superb addition to this lovely but melancholy song!
