The Japanese Buick. These were retired peoples' cars. These were targeting full-size cars like the Panther-platform cars and Buicks, which is why it had the bench seat/column shift option. You can see the Lexus trickle-down in the interior. This is from when luxury meant space, soft seats and soft suspension. Why must every luxury car now also be a performance car with rock hard seats and sharp steering?
Blame the "woke" new car reviewers for that one. They expect every new luxury sedan to handle and drive like a RWD BMW. Soft luxury car rides are all but limited now to the S class and Rolls Royce, both of which are way too expensive for everyone.
@@damilolaakanni Woke is a weird word to use. I'm queer and liberal, and drive a Buick LaCrosse. Don't blame us for the daddys money frat bros who want everything to be a 3-series.

I was gifted a 2003 xl with cloth bench seats (love the column shifter) from a relative who was hanging up the car keys. It has 100k and looks almost new; no rust, super clean inside and under the hood. I am not sure if anything was ever in the trunk. I had the timing belt and water pump replaced, along with the cam and crank seals and the valve cover gaskets.
I own a 2000 Avalon XLS. Leather interior, in great shape, 130,000 miles, runs like a dream. What sold me was that swooping dash! The moment I saw I thought," Star Trek!". TOS of course.
I actually owned a 2002 Avalon XL, the only difference was that it had a front split bench seat, with leather interior. You would slide around with every turn. I called it the “Boat”
Just sold my 2017 Volkswagen Passat r line for a 2003 Toyota Avalon XL. I love the vehicle. The leather seats are super comfortable, the JBL system is really nice, the interior is upscale and quiet, and the ride is fantastic. Definitely a good buy if you're looking for an affordable reliable luxury vehicle.
@@fakejeepman06 Yes they put these god-awful 5 spoke wheels on the V6 Camry and the 03 and 04 Avalon. They are probably my least favorite wheels in this world, and that includes all the gang-mobiles with the 90" chrome rims that screw up the car.
Ive had my 03 XLS for nearly 4 years. Tightened up the ride a bit with a whiteline swaybar etc as im typically into sportier cars, but it is a very reliable and comfortable car. After dailying my E90 3 Series for months and jumped back in the Avalon, it was like i could melt in it. The a/c is extremely dependable and cold.
Awesome old school luxury from Toyota! These are so neat and I cannot wait for your third gen Avalon review! PS: I was curious if you could see if you could try and review a Buick Cascada. They are actually pretty strange. A rare four seat cabriolet from Buick of all people!
these are great cars. a bit plain vanilla. but it's not pretentious neither. but hey it's a superbly comfortable people mover, and it fits the bill superbly. the previous generation looks better to me though.
Aw man Zack, you got the base model 😂 Since I'm so far away I'll make a comparison video between the one you reviewed & my fully-loaded version. Honestly, the difference between a base model Avalon & a fully-loaded Avalon feels bigger than the difference between a base model Avalon & a fully-loaded Camry.
I just bought an 03 Avalon, love it ❤️. It's suprisingly quick 😳. Unfortunately it's a floor shifter but it's still awesome. It's pretty clean inside but it could use some touching up. There are a few big dents but for 3300 and 164k I think it's a pretty good deal.
So glad this one was detailed before filming 😌. I wonder are there any clean Cressida's left 82-84 were great years for those. The 85 model was ok and the 90's model before it was discontinued was better than the 85. Not sure if it shared a platform with the 90's Lexus LS or not though.

I saw one of these on the road and thought XL meant “extra large” like the Santa Fe XL or the Expedition XL. Didn’t know it just meant base model, kinda boring lol. I still want one tho 😅
Fun fact: these came with front bench seats and a column shifter. They're very rare though.
Zack missed out the chance to review mine 😂 I've got a couple videos of it
These gen avalons are quite rare in my area most of them 2006-2019
I’ve wanted one with a front bench for a while
I have a 2001 w/bench
I just bought a 2001 w.a bench seat. 107,000 miles.

The 2000-2001 XLS is one of my dream cars 😄 one of the only Toyotas I'd voluntarily drive.
No 02? 😭
No, they did a facelift that I don't like. Plus, it got those HIDEOUS 5 spoke wheels that the V6 Camry got, some of the ugliest wheels of all time.

How much a difference did the sway bar make?
I just got a 2000 in mint condition, but it’s not too stable on the highway.
@@Arminmob777 A big difference. Due to age, and depending on previous maintenance, your suspension may need an overhaul.
Toyota announced they are cancelling the Avalon in Summer 2022. It was the largest sedan Toyota made and competed with the Nissan Maxima

I drive a 2005 LS430 and this car shares a lot of parts with my car. These Avalon’s seem like a “commuterized” version of the 430

I always kept an eye out for this engine paired to the 5-speed - Camry, Solara and es250.
The 3.0 V6 was never paired with a five speed automatic transmission...you're probably thinking of the 3.3.

There are literally THOUSANDS of this generation Avalon on the roads here in Miami.
This car looks better in black. Id get a 2004 avalon if it wasn't a v6

The Toyota Avalon will be replaced with a FWD Toyota Crown nameplate soon. Kinda wish they brought “Cressida” back tho..
I wanna see a review of the logic control deck!!!

Why does this look like the 2006-2010 m35
Just his vibe. All negative with a twist of humor. Not everyone his age acts like this.
