    I make food for my 11 years old Doberman Pincher. I collected pork & chicken born & skin in a gallon ziplock. I freeze them till the bag is full. Then I cook these scraps in a pressure cooker for 90 minutes. All bones are soft. Dogs won’t choke by them. I use this as wet food & mix with kibble. Now days, I try to use less kibble so I cook with some beans such as chickpea with scraps. Cooked rice & sweet potato from cans are also good food for my Doberman Pincher. My Doberman Pincher has good health & shinny hair.

    A lot of this reminds me of what my grandparents did for their dogs. My grandma would boil chicken or turkey, and give steamed carrots and green beans mixed in with her dog's kibble. She had a big ol basset hound, a Rottweiler, and a little unknown mixed girl, that all got a different amount of these things mixed in with their food and they all lived a really long time and had a ton of energy. I miss them a lot. Both the basset hound and rottweiler have since passed, and the little mix dog I haven't heard about since losing contact with my grandparents due to family issues. But I know they all lived long happy lives, a lot of which had to due with the food and exercise they all got. I can't do what my grandparents did for my girl right now, but I might suggest Ollie to my parents and see what they think.

  • @Shumab02
    @Shumab02 3 роки тому +4

    Try this, set out a bowl of your dog's "favorite" kibble. Now set a bowl next to it with a raw chicken leg, some raw liver and a few gizzards and see which one of the two bowls your dog chooses.
    I've never had a dog choose dry kibble (or wet food for that matter) over raw.

      So glad you are considering upgrading the food. I agree about the raw diets. More power to those who feel they can get the nutrients perfect each time, have time to prepare the meals, can handle the cost, etc. But I'm just honest enough to admit when that's not realistic for me.

    Hi, John! Have you ever considered writing a book on how to rear up a Doberman puppy from 8 weeks to a year? That would greatly benefit so many people, including myself! I know that you have a young family as do my husband and I, so I know that you are extremely busy and don't want to miss out on precious time with them that it may take to write a book. But it would greatly benefit many. May be something to pray about.

    • @DobermanPlanet
      @DobermanPlanet  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, although this isn't true raw because it is carefully cooked, it's still amazing. And there are definitely some pluses to doing cooked over raw in terms of safety for the dog.

  • @rawmark
    @rawmark 3 роки тому +3

    Raw is not expensive. Read Dr. Tom Lonsdales book called Raw Meaty Bones. This is the diet dogs are meant to consume because it's right for them.

    • @BeingNicc
      @BeingNicc 3 роки тому +1

      No, joke. I've actually saved money especially this 1st 6 months for my Dobie pup. And he always want to inhale it😂. I prep the raw food together myself.

    • @rawmark
      @rawmark 3 роки тому

      @@BeingNicc Exactly right. I mean, it's not rocket science. I just tell folks to read Dr. Tom Lonsdale's book, Raw Meaty Bones. Dogs need bones and real flesh because it's the proper diet for them. I've seen videos of dogs with rotting teeth. And this was because they were fed a diet of cooked foods with no bones. Bones allow them to remove tartar from their teeth and it provides necessary calcium along with other minerals. And as long as the bones aren't huge and are raw, dogs have no problem eating or digesting them.

      DCM is found in almost half of Dobermans. It’s a genetic thing, much more than it is a nutrition thing. It’s in the breed and there is almost nothing you can do about it.
      It’s the scariest part of owning a Doberman. It’s literally a coin flip.

    I feed my Doberman bitch a raw diet. From the butcher I get chunky venison, lamb, beef, turkey and chicken, and offal. She is just 19 weeks now but has a glossy coat, loads of energy and is fit and well. Currently she get three feeds a day of about 400 grams. Plus some fish, bones, vegetables and a little fruit. The Breeder gave me this meal plan and it is working so well. She is growing like a weed. Very intelligent and a very fast learner.

    Understand that Ollie is a sponsor for Doberman Planet. Decided to try their service a couple of months ago. Due to cost I opted for 2 week trial for my smallest 4 legged "child" 7 yo 4 pound male toy yorkie. Trial order arrived and all 3 canines (including 7 yo female Dobie) turned their noses up & refused to eat. The cost of Ollie for a 4lb yorkie was expensive...I couldn't afford to feed my Dobie their food EVEN IF she would have considered trying it. Luckily I came across Chefpaw pet food maker and have been making my own fresh food with Innovet's 25 vitamin/mineral supplement & Salmon/Hemp oil. Making my own dog food using available 30+ recipes which includes individualized nutrition details for each of my pups. My Dobie licks her bowl CLEAN after every feeding & I've tried numerous recipes with variations. JOHN as a benefit to Doberman Planet followers I'd encourage you to check them out. I believe Chefpaw provides a SIGNIFICANTLY Improved feeding experience AND is MUCH more affordable than mail order "fresh" food. PLUS I KNOW exactly what I am feeding my kids.

    For my Doberman I buy a large package of chicken thighs and cook them, wait till they cool then take the meat of the bones. Store the chicken in the fridge and I mix 1 cup of his dry food with 1 cup of the chicken for his meals. He loves it. Sometimes we buy ground beef but he likes the chicken more. This is actually much cheaper than buying the overpriced nasty canned dog food.

      Start recall training early, and consult a trainer, incase you need to introduce tools

      Dobermans are one of the smartest breeds but allowing them near a busy road is a bad idea. The price of a good Doberman starts at about $2,500. If your dog goes near the street, it will either be killed or stolen.

      Yeah I wouldn't rely on that as a 24/7 thing. If you trained great recall in your dog, completely trusted his or her ability to respond to that recall, then I could see being out there off leash with your dog especially if the road isn't that busy. But I wouldn't reply on the dog to stay out of the road and on your property while you're not there and supervising. Probably not the best idea.

    now that you are mixing the moist food in with Arlo's dry food, do you find he eats the wet food fro the bowl first then leaves the dry portion for last? If you fed hi a bowl of just dry food now, is he not as interested in it? Has this food made hi a more finicky eater? Love your videos by the way.. I have been binge watching them... planning on getting a done in the next year or so.. Thank you so much for all this good information. You do a great job!!

      He eats it all no problem now. Almost like he enjoys ALL his food more. Sucks it right down. I haven't noticed him being more picky. I offered him just kibble the other day and he had no problem with it. Thank you so much for the kind words JD! Means a lot.

    Great info on Ollie. Are you still feeding Arlo the same kibble that you recommended before? Have you ever tried Victor Professional Dog Food? I got turned on to that food several years ago for my Dobes and I found it to be excellent and, my dogs love it. They have a puppy formula (Victor Hi-Pro Plus Puppy-Active Dog) for "active" breeds (Dobermans!!). I will be picking up a new pup in about a month and am still researching and planning out his diet. Thanks for all of your great tips. Although I've had Dobermans all my life, I haven't raised up a puppy in about 15 years. I am not getting any younger myself, so ... watching these videos is a helpful motivator.

    Dont you have frozen raw/fresh food in the US? We have a lot of brands that makes that in Scandinavia. Its rawfood that is already mixed and deep frozen when u buy it. Very practical and not very expensive imo. Yours seem to be cooked or something?
    The one i give mine containes: "Beef, Rumen, Raw Carrot, Potato Fiber, Mineral, Lime, Vitamin, Beef Blood" and nothing else. The dogs love it.

    I was curious to see what kibble you feed and went to your website where I found out what is is.
    As I scrolled down I saw that you have a section where you advise not to feed a kibble that has corn, wheat or soy since as you state that they are cheap fillers. (Which they are).
    The dog food you use has both wheat and also different forms of corn and soy oil.
    Maybe you could do an update there.

    Please help me out!! My 15 week old puppy Joy is going through growth pain as we speak. This moaning/crying when we go to sleep is killing me on the inside. I had another doberman who died having a heartattack during to dcm, so maybe i am a little traumatised and extra alert. She now gets royal canin maxi for puppies on advice from the breeder and i give her raw puppy meal food with fruits, veggies and oil. But i dont know what to believe anymore, some people say get puppy food as they are full of things they need. And other people say dont give puppy food as the puppy is growing to fast and this will hurt them.. what is your advice as a doberman owner and do you recommend soaking the kibbles? Because she drinks so much, i heard this could be happening because the dry kibbles are soaking their stomach fluid.. thank you from one dobie lover to another❤

    • @DobermanPlanet
      @DobermanPlanet  3 роки тому

      Definitely talk to your vet with any questions of course but yeah, with Arlo I'm right there with you. Ollie quoted the highest calories out of all of them but even they were a little low in my opinion at 1414 a day. I think I'm currently giving him somewhere around 2400. These growing, muscular, active dogs just suck up that energy!

    Have you had any experience with GI issues? I had my 6 month dobie on carna4 for a while, he wasn’t reacting well to the chicken and I needed a more affordable option, so we switched to Fromm. Unfortunately a couple weeks later he had a foreign body & needed surgery. Since then his stools have not been the same. Constant liquid diarrhea (poor guy is so uncomfy). Tried antibiotics, probiotics, pro pectalin combinations and rice/boiled meat. The vet has given us Hills ID kibble for his digestion & he seems to enjoy it but we aren’t seeing much of a difference. I’m wondering if you have any advice for us? After all of the meds, they’re just recommending to continue a different combination of medications and I really don’t want to keep going through this cycle.
