I know someone that had a Tesla and the battery 🔋 died during warranty. It would have cost them 25,600.00 if it had not been under warranty!
ya thats very common and its very easy to damage lithium batteries even leaving them uncharged for even a few days damages then and causes them to lose charge capacity and even when they are taken care of they also only have a 2 to 3 years shelf life no matter how many times they are charged or how well they are taken care off. even keeping them more then 80 to 90% charged for long amounts of time can also damage them and shorten there life..
I know someone who went threw 3 of these as his 2nd car and because he didnt drive it all the time the battary crapped out on one of them within the first 2 years Then he got mice in it and they eat the soybased insulation on the wires and totteled the car. THEN he got a 2nd one and mice got into that one and eat the wires and totaled the car and the same thing happened with both of the Prius's him mom had to.
@@johnjames5712 yeah, I've heard a lot of horror stories regarding those soy-based insulated wires.. The rats really love to Feast on them.. Some Hondas had the same problem..😵💫

The rubber gloves require a pair of leather glover over top, otherwise they are good for one use only before they need re-certified. Used properly they still need recertified every 6 months.

Nice little tutorial. But ya know, lately I watch Scotty's videos not to just learn about cars I'm not familiar with, but for a little pick-me-up. Scotty is always entertaining, learned, competent and clearly loves the profession he chose and is happy in his work. And he helps us out! I think this is what we should all aspire to. Mechanic, brain surgeon, janitor, baker, plumber, whatever. Makes no difference. If you like what you do, are happy in your work and are helping others in your capacity, you are a SUCCESS!!

Hybrids are so great and I’ve learned about the battery it’s not very hard to change out the battery or cells and do other repairs it’s really simple actually . I wouldn’t be scared of any battery issues on a Prius they’re great.

First, the Toyota Hybrid has been around (with improvements) for 20 years! Next, if you run out of electricity with a Tesla or Lightning, or, etc., you will have to call a tow truck! If you run out of juice on a Prius, you keep going because it also runs on gas! Can you say gas station?

Guys that work high voltage test their gloves almost as much as they use them. And the testing is a little more elaborate than blowing them up.

I've had my Prius for 16 years. Oil and fluids, plugs, front brakes and tire changes. That's been it.
I forgot to mention that there's a lot of room in the back of it when you fold the seats down. I've hauled a lot of stuff, even a new bathtub for my bathroom remodel!😂😂😂😂

My 14 year old Prius has 180,000 miles and the hybrid battery still has 75% of its original capacity. Lots of expensive electronic doodads on it have failed over the years, but not the power train.
I have a 2018 Camry SE Hybrid. Love it! I didn't want to get a Prius. Wanted to get a more traditional car. In the summer, I get almost 50 mpg. Love it!!!
ANY time you are working on ANY kind of higher voltage a voltmeter and the know how to use it is ABSOLUTELY required. That or a good life insurance policy.
Ill stick with my hilux pick up truck..at least i can get away when the end comes..hopefully
without even watching the video the thumbnail describes the dangerous part it is the high voltage wires for the electrical part.
ev batteries can put out several hundred volts and several hundred amps so if you ever work on ev and hybrid batteries you need to be very careful with the high voltage.
because it is dc you may not get a shock the same like with ac so there is potentially no second chance with ev batteries.

Why do you need a dealership? Just take it to a local garage. Sounds like a bad air conditioning compressor. Any garage should be able to handle it. It's not going to be cheap.

I have a Prius c with 233,000 miles in it and never replaced the hybrid battery. I believe the health is about 77 percent of battery life I think. I just a basic OBD reader, how would I check the health correctly?
Purchase a quality OBD reader.
What do you think of the lithium IRON replacement battery for the prius? It weighs less and has a ton more power.

I don't know why Prius drivers are the worst! Like slowing down on off ramps,below the speed limits, 3 cars back at a stop light and never looking in the mirrors when merging in traffic. 8:45 interestingly, the Honda CR-Z (and other Honda IMA powertrains, I'm sure) does have a standard 12v starter. However, it is rarely used and it instead uses the high power hybrid motor to start the gas engine. However, if the hybrid system isn't working properly, the car will use the 12v starter as a backup to start the car. I actually had this happen to me after a fuse blew which took down half the hybrid system with it.

My brother hybrid is working fine... 😉 Clocking 40 000km 4 yers later my voswagen have more issues than the Corolla hybrid... Every now and every then some codes appears at !east I know my key battery is low... Stupid voswagen only 30 0ookm. Coroola hybrid 20 times more reliable than any voswagen made in Europe... Japan is just better at cars... 😁
A friend bought a Prius and the batteries failed after 100,000 miles. Cost to replace was so high he bought another Prius. On this one the main computer failed after 90,000 amd the car was basically a total loss. So, in an effort to save the planet, he bought a third Prius. Some people just don't learn.

A hybrid battery for a Prius 3 gen. is around 1500 dollars new, takes about an hour to replace . Sounds to me like ur friend got fooled.

lol the AC compressor uses electricity? thats a deal breaker. 1100 watts, window AC units use less. whats going on there. and where did they get a lift kit for it. how does that work. need a little more background story on that.

Hybrid is the way I have a 09 Camry Hybrid with 401560 km and its the best car...40 plus mpg and its a tank...I will always have 1 for now on...and its the original hybrid battery as well...

I gotta a Prius 05 had to change the battery packs once a couple months ago wasn’t to bad a job but it did take me all day and I had to replace 3 cells 10$ each

Just buy the modules individually I’d suggest getting 5 just in case you run into more than one bad module. You gotta dr Prius and see how many cells are bad before you do anything. Then charge them slowly and repeatedly before putting them on the old battery
Torque everything lightly because the bolts snap easy and the modules threads can snap too then ur out a module

I just paid 450$ for new shocks on my truck. It was a hard sell for the wife at that. Forget about me getting a 2 thousand dollar battery for anything.

My 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid failed to start last year after 100k miles. The problem turned out to be the OEM 10-year-old 12-volt battery. My local auto battery shop wouldn't touch it because it was a hybrid. My local Toyota dealer replaced it for my good looks and $310.00.
