- Having a professional Camcorder from Sony normally last for many years.
During this time we at Sony work to get as much out of these cameras as possible, therefore we sometimes announce a firmware update.
The benefits of a firmware update can be new features, faster menu control and bug fixes.

Hi, thumbs up for a good job. I have this problem and I don't know if you can help. I have both z5 and z7 but only one will work with bkackmagic atem at a time because the z7 was bought from America and frame rate there is different from UK. Is it possible to update the camera with UK firmware or is there anyway I could change the frame rate on z7 to match that of UK frame rate? Thanks in anticipation

Unfortunately in the days of HVR cameras Japan designed them to be based on regions Pal(Europe) and NTSC(USA/JP).
so they cannot be changed as their hardware is limited to that region.
It's not until later models like the PMW- or PXW- that could change in the menu these recording regions :(

HELLO DAN! I just got my Sony PMW-EX1R and shot some footage! My question is: I used an SXS Adapter to transfer my video mp4 files to my computer! The problem is the Palmcorder puts each take in a separate folder making, batch capturing impossible! Besides using the USB out in Media Mode, can I use the Fire Wire IDEE Output to do the same? Will Adobe Premiere recognize it and control it like it does with a Mini DV Cam? Is there an advantage of using a USB vs a Fire Wire IDEE?

Which SxS adaptor / Cardreader did you use?
Which format did you set the camera to record?
It sounds like you are using an FAT32 type of workflow which will make a new folder as soon as it makes a file over 4GB.
Go for UDF for MXF file generation.
I don't remember if the EX1R got the EXfat update, if it does support it. please try this instead.

To answer your question: The DCR-series are based on our consumer team and not proffesional, meaning that the firmwares we speak of in these videos to not always have the same.
DCR-series normally get launched with a fully capable firmware.

Its technically known as "buggered!". you need to send it in to Sony to 'reinstall the firmware' which in reality means a complete new board is fitted which in a PXW-Z450 is £6200.00. Not a good sales technique for the customer, but good for profits for SONY! especially when everything was done correctly and it fails even though the SAME memory stick upgraded 2 cameras PERFECTLY before this one!! SONY really needs a better way of recovery especially in this day and age of technology!! very poor in my view!!

how to get rid of the grainy images in low light
if they are already there on your material i dont think I'm the right person as i am no colorist. it sounds like you are talking about exposure and there are various tools you can use.
Either when manually exposing or using the automatic functions.
Automode:
Scene Select will help you a long way. if you're shooting a low light screne outdoors or maybe a small concerts with no or little stagelight will create a large contrast and the signal to noise ratio will deffinately be noticeable.
AGC Limit (Automated gain Control) lets you lock the max gain when shooting auto. if you know that the is a noticable gain in the image when at 12dB or higher, well then lock it to max 9dB. (excample).
I dont know what kind of shootings you do so i will have a hard time telling you exactly what to do.

Hi Mr. Kabach, its much easier on the X320! you need an SD card in the utility slot with the binary file.

What firmware does your PXW-X70 have right now? it shouldnt make a difference but it sometimes does mean you have to update in steps instead of directly installing the latest one.

You need a PC or Mac to install the firmware update. it does not take long to do this.
I would recommend you have the PDF with the procedure with you and follow the steps as accurately as possible, just to be sure.

i have 1.0 trying to upgrade to 3.0 but it says that i need a usb i tried using my hdmi cabke but that wouldnt work i have the software update file but i need some sort of usb ???
yes you need a Micro-USB connection from the "multi" plug on the side of the camera into a computer.
this is a standard USB if you have a cellphone with an Android OS.
If you have an iphone it is not likely you have this cable.

Sony Nx 200 Update
Hello Sudhir,
V1.01 was realeased recently for the HXR-NX200.
Its not a big update but it does fix some issues with audio hardware. unfortunately its not an update you can do yourself, it has to go through a Sony Professional Service provider as the is need for quality control after the update.
