    I was on Risperdal (via court-order) back in 1996; the adverse (side) effects were so brutal (especially gynecomastia). Based on my experience; Risperdal (& psych meds in general) is NOT "treatment". It's PUNISHMENT!!!!!

      I started taking Vitamin B supplements, which appear to be very helpful. Water soluble vitamins are well tolerated and not dangerous. Fat soluble vitamins can have negative side effects, and can be dangerous.

      @@TwoBunExactly; all psych meds (especially antipsychotics & neuroleptics) r fat-soluble (i.e.: cling 2 the fat cells which results in "lingering" effects). Conversely; alcohol's water soluble. The manner in how psych meds work; I'm so much better off drinking beer (which contains alcohol) but that's besides the point.

      @@billybandyk0720 I got damaged by psychiatry quite badly as a captured person with 30 grams of Lithium and Risperdal over 4 1/2 weeks. Anti-Crazy medications are about the same time line as synthetic opioids. Probably sympathetic to earlier Mind Control research, the idea of personal computing and a World Wide Web would not have been supported in the 1991 High Speed Computing Act. • @dralywood
      @dralywood  2 роки тому

      Hey Anthony- This is a really good question.
      There are a handful of options to consider:
      1. Try to establish care with another mental health provider
      2. See if your PCP would be willing to prescribe your medication until you establish care with a psychiatrist
      3. Go to an urgent care and see if they will give you a refill
      4. Talk to your pharmacist. Sometimes, they can give a couple days worth of medication as an "emergency supply"
      5. Try to establish care at a free mental health clinic.
      Hope this helps!

You need a weight of good reasons to justify the side effect risks or at least a responsible Dr would. Worth speaking to your Dr though they may explore ADHD or Anxiety medications which may be helpful

      Risperidone should be a last resort to control mania or psychosis. It shouldn't be given to people just because they have behavioral issues or are displaying symptoms of autism. I've only been on it for 1 month, and it's already made me gain 20 pounds, sleep all day, damaged my liver, and given me tardive dyskinesia. (Side note: it's also not helping me at ALL.)
      It actually says right in the medication package (at least in my country), "Should not be used for irritability and behavioral issues associated with autism". I think that online it should say that somewhere, too.
      0/10, would not recommend. 😒

      This is a Black box warning for movement disorder. Risperdal should never be given to children. The state of Missouri sued the Pharmaceutical industry for prescribing medication to children, the pharmaceutical industry settled out of court. I would never take any type mood stabilizers, any type of mental medication. The question is where any scientific research that shows any cures. All dreamed up by big Pharma.

    This video lacks critical points. It doesn't mention how a psychosis can happen due to sudden withdrawal, which could lead to patients mistakenly thinking they need to stay on it forever. That said, I merely read it in an article, plus it feels like a common sense worry to be aware of, but I lack personal experience.

      Why is the video nonsense? I’m confused?

    • @scscyou
      @scscyou 5 місяців тому

      @@dralywood Sorry, I meant that it lacks critical points. I get it that UA-cam creators typically just throw in random points, but I believe a video is harmful if it doesn't systematically cover everything important. Imagine the scenario: some person searches for this knowledge and all they watch is your video, where you omit almost everything critical that they may need to know. They will mistakenly believe the side effects only consist of what you said. Nowadays it's darn difficult to find high quality resources that are backed by something. All I did was to test your review by using a very specific use case, and you failed the test, so I can only wonder how many other things have you also missed. I don't have a better fact-checking algorithm available, and so don't people who are new to this topic.

    • @dralywood
      @dralywood  5 місяців тому

      I agree that these videos don’t include 100% of information out there on the medication. However, that was not the intent when creating them. This video was meant to be a short overview hitting the main points. It actually has more information in it than the FDA created patient handouts on this medication.
      Anyone who uses these videos as the end all/be all of decision making is going about it the wrong way. These are in no way are meant to be a substitute for conversations with your physician. With that being said, sadly, many people do find these videos to be more informative than their conversations that they’ve already had with their provider.
      If I were to talk about every single aspect of every single medication, the video would be hours long, especially things that occur in far less than 1% of people.
      I get the channel may be too basic for some, and you might be one of those people. However, it’s a stepping stone for many and it opens the door to further conversations with their health care team. Feel free to pass on watching further videos if they aren’t for you.

    • @scscyou
      @scscyou 5 місяців тому

      @@dralywood Well, the use-case of using it to treat a problem and then trying to discontinue the medication as soon as possible, to avoid being naively stuck on it for a lifetime if your doctor doesn't care about your long term health, is the most important use-case in my opinion. But I'm glad you're intentionally going deeper than the FDA handout, that's a great start. We live in a world full of misinformation where a lack of information is very dangerous, and there are no objective means to judge when someone contributes towards misinformation, because content creators like you don't have all the information available either, so there is no authority to judge if you've omitted something, we can barely judge if something isn't factual. All I'm saying is that you're responsible for gathering it somehow, and it will distinguish your channel from being another one of the pointless thousands of channels that don't provide any added value; they should all disappear from the face of the earth :) We could come up with thousands of examples of where someone omits a fact and thus changes the entire meaning of what they say, whereas if they mentioned the existence of some information even for a couple of seconds, nobody would need them to elaborate for one hour on the details. Anyway, my main conflict seems to be with how you view niche scenarios as only affecting 1% of people. I don't have the clinical data, so I can only project my prejudices where I believe it's a more serious scenario that practically affects the majority of people. It's like saying harmful nutrition only kills 1% people; no, almost 100% people need to be aware of what's harmful, and it indirectly causes so many health problems that need to be further treated over long term. Even if something only manifests the result you measure in 1%, everyone has that possibility... As I said, maybe I'm wrong and Risperidone doesn't really "cause psychosis on withdrawal" as that's the specific point I tested you on, in which case your info wouldn't be responsible over people getting repeatedly hospitalized and having their life ruined for example... It's really difficult for ordinary people to gather actual data, and I'm sure research isn't easy for you either, so I'm just providing references to be considered. All I'm saying is, good luck in making high quality research in your further videos.

      www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/trichotillomania/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20355193
      Overall, Behavioral therapy and Cognitive therapy have been shown to have the best outcomes. However if there is a co-morbid diagnosis (like anxiety) driving the trichotillomania, then prescribing a medication may help.
      Yes, it seems like some prescribers have used anti-psychotic but I do not believe there is much research to stand behind. As always I recommend patients take a good look at the side effect profile.
      I hope this helps.

      It can be very effective in those who take it for indicated reasons. However, like with all medications, they all have their benefits/risks.

      Great question- Per the FDA label, "Patients should be advised to avoid alcohol while taking Risperdal."
