The fact that Brennan drops the gnarly old sea captain voice and mannerisms to go for a general Irish accent and stance implies that his sea captain was faking his ways the whole time in order to try and act more sea captainy

I love the second skit because it's clear that Josh was ready to give up and move on after Brennan's bit but he just grabs him and says "No, we're doing this. Escalate. Go for it!"
