    Dr Mathis should be teaching this information to others doctors, if they would listen. It's unfortunate more doctors don't know this. I'm in So Cal and am having trouble finding a doctor as knowledgeable as Dr. Mathis. Surprised my husband is still with me. My lack of hormones and getting no help from my doctors has ruined my life.

    Thanks again for this video. I am 75yo and have been on HRT since 48. It is important to take control of your own treatment. I appreciate the position that HRT is good for older women! At the beginning, my symptoms were almost entirely brain function (thinking was like swimming through mud), and mood, NOT hot flashes. Regarding different HRT modes, I have done pills, patches, creams and pellets. Pills (low dose bc pills) were awful for me, and I bled 3 weeks out of 4.. Estradiol patches worked great from 48 to 65 years old (with oral progesterone), then my testosterone dropped through the floor. Creams just did not "reach" me. I started pellets in 2010, and I can see Dr. Mathis's point about too much, which is what my first dose was, I was too horny and gained a lot of weight in just a couple of months. I immediately cut the dose in half for the next implant, and over the years adjusted. I adjusted down to not have any side effects like facial hair or acne. But my pubic hair grew back!! If someone wants to try pellets, I agree with starting low and working from there (like 50-75mg T/ 12.5mg E2) and then seeing how you do. I have been on 100 T and 25 E2 for about 8 years, no longer taking P, as I had a hysterectomy for unrelated issue. I recently upped the T to 112.5 mg for a dose that will better protect my bones and breasts. I don't feel much different, maybe a tiny bit more zip in my libido, but basically the same. My pellets last about 4-5 months. My gyn was the first provider, then I moved and found another gyn who does pellets. He no longer does gyn surgery but still does pellets. When he retires, I will find someone else, as this is what works for me, and it is not extreme. Thank you for helping so many women.

      Katherine, thank you so much for sharing your experience with the different forms of HRT. I am so glad to hear the pellets work for you! And it sounds like you have really gotten to know your body very well during all of this, which is incredible. I love your attitude of going and finding someone that will help you feel the way you deserve!
      Thank you again for sharing what works for you , and for being here. I know your comment will be very helpful to those who read it

      Thank you so much for sharing, Katherine. How do you go about finding the right provider? I just had a menopause consultation, but I'm not convinced she's the right person for me, but at the same time is my first time trying to find a gyn that can best manage my menopause and be open to long term use.

    • @kmjdebay
      @kmjdebay 2 роки тому

      @@annieg.7051 Hi Annie, that is very positive that she is open to menopause management over the long term. It has taken me years to find the right providers, and I have moved around a bit, which complicates things. Start with the NAMS website. I first tried a NP that was listed, and she worked for a gyn. That was fine until I needed the T and wanted to try pellets. It was just luck that there was a gyn in my city that had just begun offering that, working within a larger women's health practice. So, NAMS is the first place to start. When I moved 70 mi away, I kept going back a couple of times, then googled HRT pellets in xxx - my new town, and there were a few. Again, the NP was listed, but she worked within a Gyn's practice. She eventually left and I continued with the Gyn for my other female stuff, and he was so much better at the pellet insertion! I moved again and tried another local provider, but they were very commercial, and asked me to repeat tests I had just done - through their own lab - and then they ended putting me on creams that I did not like. I ended up driving back to my last provider for 2 years. We moved again! this time back near my usual provider. By then, he had retired from his GYN practice, but has a separate office for pellets and some other aesthetic procedures. So, every 4 months or so I visit him. His wife is the nurse. All to say that you have to be willing to fail sometimes, and start over. Finding a provider is so hard! I have been looking for my sister in a different part of the country, and found a couple who are NPs, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine trained and are doing pellets. Now, what is the right provider? One who really listens to you, and will answer your questions genuinely. And you must feel comfortable and safe with them. You will meet some duds, but hopefully some terrific people. All the best!

    Claudia and Dr. Mathis thank you ! Finding people who understand all of this is rarer than gold. Having the NHS here in the UK I think it’s harder to get answers because our consultations are free. It’s like you just have to be grateful for what u get…. And believe me I am always grateful. However that does not get me answers for the thing that has totally taken over and in many ways destroyed my life. They don’t like you onHRT for long here in UK because of the cancer risk. I myself don’t drink or smoke but they are wanting me off the HRT. I don’t do amazingly on them but off them I’m horrendous if that’s even possible . Thank you for explaining and caring. Thanks for these discussions. I’ve been on Bio HRT for about 5 years, since age 57. I had a partial hysterectomy at age 36 and things went downhill from there and I could not find a practitioner who would help me. They insisted that my ovaries would keep functioning. I had symptoms of menopause at 53, which surprised me. I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, celiac, psoriasis, lupus, and tinnitus, and have had lots of bowel problems. I’ve straightened out most of the bowel problems with diet and lifestyle. I gained weight and starved it off and cycled through weight gain and starving for years. First autoimmune diagnosis was at age 11. The medical model really failed me, but I looked good on the outside, and that didn’t help my situation. I finally realized that insurance was the problem, so I found a doctor, paid out of pocket, and got going with tests and hormones. It has taken years for us to get everything right, but I’ve been great for about a year and a half, and I’m at my perfect weight effortlessly. I’m fit and healthy overall in spite of the autoimmune issues which are all either in remission or controlled. I forget that I have these diagnoses. I feel great in my body most of the time. I take compounded oral DHEA, oral porcine thyroid, oral progesterone, and oral low dose naltrexone, use cream testosterone and cream estrogen, all from my compounding pharmacist across the state. They ship to me quarterly. I’m a poor methylator as shown in prior tests and I wonder about the Biest cream effectiveness. The issue with all this is the cost. My NP requires frequent appointments and so many labs, even when I’m feeling good. If I have a question between appointments, I have to pay $200 for access in addition to paying for regular appointments. My doctor/NP are 600 miles away, and at least now, I get to do phone visits and don’t have to take off work and spend the money to travel. I plan to retire next year, and I have to choose between my bio HRT or other needs and wants. I want to find a new doctor, practice, or NP, but I’m so afraid of going back to the horrible existence I had before HRT. I live in a tiny remote town with few resources, but there is a local clinic and NP who does T/E pellets. I’m wary of how they’ll work for me. I don’t know if that NP will keep my compounded porcine thyroid prescription going, and this is very important to my well-being. I’m trying to reach the local NP for an appointment, but no call back yet. My current NP is making me travel again for expensive labs even though everything looked perfect 1 month ago. She holds my prescriptions hostage for these labs. Thanks for reading. I’m so frustrated, and yet I feel great. This should be a peaceful time for me after doing all this work.

    Gorgeous Claudia, This was amazing and Dr. Mathis is a gift. For a doctor to advocate finding another doctor and getting blood work independently is awesome. We have to feel like we deserve to feel better and we do. I hope many, many women and men find this video! I care for someone with Alzheimers and wonder if a very low dose of estrogen would benefit her. She does have other medical concerns.
    Thank you so very much. You look beautiful and your hair does too. I have to get the shampoo you talked about. :) Have a beautiful day. xo

      Hi Noni, I am so sorry to hear you have had a hard time finding a doctor willing to listen and help. Please do not give up and please talk to your doctor about your depression. As dr Mathis mentioned, synthetic progesterone is not desirable, and hopefully your doctor will listen and change your hormones to work for you. Please let me know if there is anything I can do, and please do not give up. Maybe go on the waiting list for one of the hormone doctors. 6 months will pass in no time, and hopefully you then will find the help you deserve.

    I wish so much that there were doctors everywhere that know about HRT. I've heard over and over that at my age 69 I was not a candidate for HRT. Now I hear Dr. Mathis say it might be possible. I am tired every day, I know some of that is age, but if there is any chance of improvement I would try almost anything. I don't expect to live forever and I know that everything cannot be cured, but it is really hard to figure out what I really can improve by HRT.
    I have osteoporosis and I know that HRT could have helped with that years ago. Can it help now I wonder? I take a pill just to keep it from getting worse. That is all they tell me I can do.
    Thank you Claudia - if you ever feel like delving further into this knowing what to ask a doctor, who to ask would be a huge help. How did you find Dr. Mathis?

    • @claudiaglows

      Hi Jess, I am sorry to hear you are struggling and have not been helped! It really makes me mad when we women are being told it is normal to feel tiered and have brittle bones, and I am sorry no one has listened to you and helped you beyond giving you meds for your osteoporosis. I def. think that HRT can help you some with your bones, even now, and that it can help you otherwise as well. It will take a skilled physician, willing to listen and I hope you will find that. Feel free to call Dr Mathis. Depending on where you live, he might be able to treat you, if not he can at least answer your questions and advice you. I have a couple more videos with him on here, which might be helpful as well.
      If there is anything I can do, please do not hesitate to reach out. Wishing you all the best and a happy and healthy new year

    I believe this Dr. is right on! I was on bioidentical hormones for quite awhile, but kept having sweating issues and sleep deprivation. I switched to Lunesta (sleep) and the pellet. At first the pellet seemed wonderful, as my sex life improved so much. 9 months later, the drive is down and my hair started falling out! I was getting bald spots. After researching it, I found that pellets can cause hair loss. As soon as this treatment is out of my body I will be calling Dr. Mathis and testing. Meantime, I am taking tons of supplements for hair, hair masques and anything else I can think of. I am also slowly weaning myself off of antidepressants. I was not taking them for depression, but rather anxiety and sleep disruptions such as sleep walking and sleep talking. Here is hoping for a better future! Thanks to both of you for this invaluable information.

I have been feeling so miserable in the year I have been without my hormones. I have an appointment in December and I am going to insist that she put me back on it or I will find a doctor who will. Also a question, is testosterone part of hrt or is it just estrogen? Whe. I took testosterone, I have severe thinning in my hair so I stopped that and now do a suppository of a small dose of testosterone to help with my libido. But it has not do e much good. It was suppose to thi Ken the lining of the vagina. Oh what we women go through!

      As far as Testosterone, I actually asked Dr Mathis this same question not too long ago and he says it is not as important. So in your case, if you do not feel good on it, I would say go without. I think if your estrogen is depleted, there will be no libido. So hopefully you will be able to convince your doctor to put you back on it. It will help everything, including your libido and lining of your vagina.

    Thanks for your concern for helping people. I'm 68 and was on hrt for yrs then went to compound but my internist was not supportive. I needed a Doctor to get the prescription for the compound. (Which I had to pay out of pocket).
    My internist said I don't need estrogen. My number was zero.

    You have spiked my interest and given me hope.

      With a level of zero, I can only imagine how poorly you must feel, and what an arse for saying you do not need estrogen!
      I linked all the labs in the description box. As far as what test, I would say def. estrogen and progesterone, but if possible also thyroid.
      Then take those numbers to a good doctor, or call Dr Mathis and see if he can help.

    Claudia, I have only just found you and my goodness your past story with anorexia literally is identical to mine. I am coing up to 45 in a few months and fortunately my bone density has always been good....I think due to my weight lifting. I have now just found an amazing GP here in the UK who has prescribed me evorel patches, the mini pill with progesterone and a vaginal gel. I have been getting joint and muscle pain, headaches, anxiety...just everything that makes life pretty horrible. I have still got a HUGE fear of weight gain though as I have had so many friends gain a lot of weight when they start HRT. Could you tell me how you dealt with this being a past anorexic? I am so sorry to ask I am just so so scared:(:(
    I have binged watched your videos and love them all. Thank you for all you do xxxxx

    • @claudiaglows
      @claudiaglows  2 роки тому +4

      Hi Meriel, I am so happy you are here! Please do not ever apologise for asking a question, I can completely understand your fear. When I first started using HRT, I saw a women who was not very helpful. She kept prescribing more and more hormones, but they did not work for me. When I told her I would get a second opinion and that I was thinking of using the HRT I have now been using for 15 years, she told me "Good luck with that, you are going to get fat". You can imagine how that freaked me out! But I realised that she obviously had her own issues around food and weight gain and at the time I was so desperate, I did not even care if I gained weight (well, I did of course, but I tried not too). I have been on the same HRT for 15 years now and I have not gained a pound. Once my head was clear again, I realised, that most women struggling with weight after menopause are actually not on HRT and that it is the lack of estrogen that increased belly fat and causes us too lose muscle. It also causes us to have zero energy and motivation to exercise.
      So, do not be afraid. If you find the right form of HRT for you, you will get rid of your symptoms and get back to the person you used to be.
      Make sure to communicate with your provider, have her test your hormones after a while on the HRT to see how they are doing and do not settle for just feeling a tiny bit better. If what you are on now does not work, try something else. And please know you can always reach out to Dr Mathis for any questions, or to me if I can help with anything. My email is claudiaglows3@gmail.com

      For testing, if you are already on hormones it sounds like you are either not taking the right once or not enough. So I would test while using all of your hormones. I would test estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and if you can also thyroid (free T3) as well as DHEA.
      If you are on a steady replacement you can test any day of the months. You can also reach out to Dr Mathis if you need any help. Or if I can help further, please never hesitate to reach out.
