I’m an “S” gauge operator who went the other compass direction. I grew up in Greeley, and as a toddler lived 3 blocks SW of the museum site, in the 600 block of 13th Street (the house was demolished in the early 1960s). After stints in Wyoming, California, Washington State, Greeley again, and New Mexico, we ultimately ending up migrating to Oregon in 1984. Oregon IS our adopted home…. Imagine visiting the Greeley museum, finding myself back in Oregon! I’m sure railroad modelers would agree the museum and staff are a true treasure and the museum deserves more than just one visit! We seldom miss a Colorado Model Railroad Museum stop when we visit Greeley. Thank you for being so awesome!
My wife Jenny and I visited the museum in the first week of July 2021 as part of our honeymoon. Jenny was so amazed with the amount of detail. The staff, or volunteers were so friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you guys and gals for keeping the hobby alive. We will be back from Gravette Arkansas.
It’s unbelievable the amount of detail they’ve achieved and how much time people dedicated to making something that would leave everyone in awe, from kids to professionals. Remarkable layout
Bob Pilk is an excellent speaker and did a wonderful job of describing the scenes. Enjoyed Michelle’s explanation of the museum. Fabulous model railroad.
My wife and I visited in August and really enjoyed seeing it in person, a well as meeting the host, who I also ran into at the Timonium train Show a couple months later. Small world!
Wonderful labor of love for Model Railroading. My brothers and I have built model railroads in HO. We built our first RXR in HO in Tokyo Japan, 1953, while our Dad served in US ARMY in South Korea. Stories are to much to relate to you all here. Thank you for fantastic video!
I continually am blown away by watching YT videos on model railroading. This one though….. WOW! Cannot even fathom the work and cost that goes into this incredible layout. Boggles the mind….Amtrak should take a lesson from these guys!
I've never commented on a layout before but this is truly impressive and immersive.....the amount of scenery and landscape compared to the amount of rail adds to the realism...well done, work of art. Everyone involved should be proud, Thanks
49 seconds in and I love it. His use of weathering is so accurate. So many people want to keep their stock looking like it just came out of the box and while 2 or 3 cars on a layout could look like they were just shopped that is not how real life units look. And I have worked some really dirty equipment (before AMTRAK I worked a live coal fired steam tourist line that was hand shoveled. I know dirt)
AWESOME GOOD JOB VERY WELL DONE EXCELLENT LAYOUT GREAT EXPERIENCE AND VERY GOOD LOOKING LAYOUT THANKS FOR SHARING THIS WITH YOUR SUBSCRIBERS VERY GOOD LOOKING LAYOUT AND I APPRECIATE IT AND YOU ALL JIM KAMMERER OF PHILADELPHIA PA NORFOLK SOUTHERN RULES THE RAILS
Thanks! This is an amazing museum. I'm a railfan and model railroader and I've been to many rail museums and model layouts across the country. This is by far the best I've ever seen. My sister-in-law lives in Loveland, and whenever I'm in town I make it a point to visit the museum--there's always something else to see!
visited on a great Rocky Mountains train-cation last year. Absolutely glad I decided to make the stop and chat with everybody who was there. Even being late because we just had to catch a train through Fort Collins.
EXCELLENT LAYOUT AND GOOD DESIGN AND GOOD DESIGN I THINK THAT THIS LAYOUT VERY NICELY DONE AWESOME NICE LAYOUT I enjoy this layout looks very nice and DETAILED I ENJOY THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC AS WELL THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY TO LOOK AT IT ALSO ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT STAY POSITIVE BE SAFE AND POSITIVE LIVE THE GOLDEN RULE TREAT OTHERS LIKE THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED.
Goodness gracious, that's jus amazn, thanks for sharing this with me, I'm gonna have to check out this great lookn facility, love ho model railroads that's the scale I've got at my home, hope to see soon. ✌️👌👍👍 More please.
One of my greatest tours was the old John Allen’s Gorre & Daphetid Railroad in California. Your model railroad, with its mirrors, reminded of the old days. Thank you
I remember that Rail Road when I saw it in RMC years ago. I was a young just starting out model railroader then. I understand not long after John passed the railroad was destroyed in a fire. So many fine model railroads get destroyed one way or another when we should be preserving them for future generations.
What an amazing and well engineered train layout!...Amazing scenery... Love the many trestles and tunnels, the trains are beautiful too! I've never owned a train set in 62 years, but; I've always admired those that devote a lifetime to them... I'm a philly native, in the 60's the local school would take us to Stroudsburg PA for Roadside America...It was so interesting to see the expansive layout... People's hobbies always amaze me...They show the diversity of human thought... I Went back to Roadside America, about 10 years ago...It was still the same but; it hadn't aged well...People just don't go places these days...: (...
John, thanks for bringing us this video. It's always delightful to see the Colorado Model Railroad Museum's layout. As Michelle says, it's a work of art. There are very few layouts that come anywhere close to matching it. It's breathtaking! ...Roy
What an incredible layout. It would be neat to put a small GoPro on a flatbed car in front of the engine and film an entire loop. Or, all of the loops. Thank you for sharing.
@@tsgmultimedia that's definitely a very cool way to tour the layout. I watched a video that was about an hour long of a layout in Germany. I didn't see what they were using but I'm guessing it might've been something similar to what I suggested. What you guys have done there is next level.
You really have to know what you are doing to operate in ctc mode. Having all those trains running, keeping their length, location, and destination in mind with no collisions. It makes you appreciate what the operators of a real railroad had to do before computers. Beautiful detailed layout. Thank you for the explanation of the operation. Nicely done video.
That is an amazing experience! I would like to recognize the volunteers and cleaning staff who keep the plexiglass clean. 👍 Hope to visit one day, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the tour ,I enjoyed it,hoping to visit the Greelyt Museum next year, fantastic layout, thanks to all those people that contributed to making it realistic,a big thank you to the person that had the vision .

I have family near Greeley CO, so I stop by the museum every time I visit family.
To build a solid model rail road you need electricians, artists, and even computer programmers. Hats off to you guys.
I agree, but you forgot to mention a very large bank account!
Outstanding !!!
Just because they do it right and you don’t, don’t be jealous Porky. 😆😆
@@ivanboesky1520 jealous. I'm not.
