This is so underrated. When people hear "LA", they hear Hollywood, glamour, and rich people. They don't truly see what LA is mainly composed of. Great video!
Unfortunately skid row is now pretty much everywhere in LA.
@@hught6885 there is no skid row in Chicago, IL, completely dismantled/demolished several years ago!!!
LA is mostly composed of normal working class families like any other city... It's not all Hollywood/ glamour and it's not all Skid Row/ poverty. People only highlight the best and worst parts because that gets more attention.
As an LA resident this is a true depiction of Los Angeles. I appreciate you showing this in your series on Los Angeles as much as your other videos on the other communities. Keep on being real.
I remember visiting LA from my home Hungary back in 2013. I was only just 18 years old and everything I’d seen in the movies and the media... I thought I was going to the most glam upper-class city in the world. Coming from a very working class small home town in Hungary, I was expecting LA would be worlds apart from the sites I grew up seeing: homelessness, poverty, beggars, decrepit houses & crime. That’s why I went there for my first trip away from Hungary. My hotel was quite far out and my cab to the hotel from the airport drove past Skid Row and I remember just feeling this complete sinking feeling and being in complete shock. It was a real reality check moment and it confused me so much! I couldn’t believe *this* was the LA you see in the movies and the magazines. I had no idea LA had impoverished and homeless communities! I thought everyone was hot and wealthy. I was so ignorant and oblivious. I remember feeling so depressed about it, selfishly because I came to LA expecting to see palm trees, sun, beaches and hot superstars. To walk around feeling like I was in a movie and to be as far away from the life I lived in back home in Hungary. Was definitely a very sobering experience. Throughout the whole trip in car rides to and from places I also drove through so very neglected and impoverished areas also, it was a real eye opener. LA isn’t all sunshine and rainbows that’s for sure.
Awesome. Please continue to follow my channel to see other great food videos!
To all those judging and not acting: Mr. Cha’s lives in LA. He is allowing you to view this for yourself just as he stated in the video. He didn’t make it political or agenda based other than for you to see for yourself. Period. Any negative comments projected onto him are plain wrong. Take your anger and judgement elsewhere. Your compassion and maybe being encouraged to help would be more welcomed.
Unfortunately, skid row is practically EVERWHERE in LA now.
As a long time resident of LA, this still breaks my heart. I live outside of Seattle now and Seattle has the same problem.
That’s what left wing policies get you. Learn to vote the right way and this problem will go away.
Rockstareater is showing you an aspect of Los Angeles just as he filmed other parts of the city. There is no exploitation involved here. It just showes it as it is. There is nothing wrong with that. Just like there is nothing wrong with showing beautiful and affluent areas.
Wow Steve. That took a lot of guts going down to skid row LA that is a rough part of Los Angeles. I haven't been down in that area in quite some time. Be careful out there Rockstar eater.
I’m an Uber Driver and I can tell you there’s miles of extreme poverty and Homeless living on streets, in cars and R.V.s going South of L.A.
It’s incrementally creeping into the suburbs of the the South Bay too.
The irony of seeing a gourmet food truck driving through a city of junk
Unfortunately skid row has not changed for the better. I used to travel to the area with my dad for 20+ years as one of our suppliers was located there. Since you usually make food or restaurant videos, there was a popular seafood restaurant next to Mutual Wholesale Cash & Carry where you filmed.
Many people yelled at you. How scary I was thinking at some point someone could actually fight with you
Did you feel scared or threatened at all while you were filming/walking down the streets?
Hs probably did. Just walking the market you'll find thes mentally ill people attempting to attack you.
He did the smart thing and keeps walking.
Wow very different video from your normal content.
Thanks for showing the truth
Interesting video. We have a similar area here in Salt Lake City. I imagine that all major metropolitan cities have a similar issue. I did take a few minutes to read through some of the comments. Always interesting to learn how others might handle this situation if the choice was theirs. Some make it a political issue. Some have their own ideas on how to solve the problem with community gardens and fruit trees. While these ideas make sense from the commenters' perspective, to the people living in the "tent cities" it would be just one more rule they refuse to follow! There are many programs out there to help the homeless. There are many programs for addiction. Help for mental illness. But as the old saying goes: You can lead a horse to water, but you can not make him drink! There are those people who actually "choose" to live this way! They don't want to follow any rules. They don't care about housing or buying couches. They are quite content to have a few little scrabbly possessions because they are THEIR possessions. They acquire them without spending money. There are more treasures in the nearby dumpster than shopping at Walmart! No money is needed! Some call it, "living off the land". Some might also take a five-finger-discount and take someone else's belongings. Yes.... Among this group is a fair share of people with mental illness. Most will self-medicate with illegal drugs. Another misconception is calling these folks "homeless". Not all homeless people are living in a tent city or curled up on a sidewalk. Many homeless even have full-time jobs. The big difference between the groups is a desire to improve one's life. Although I am done ranting here.... The bottom line is: I don't know just what we do with this problem, except what is being done. Cities are making sure that these people are in a group somewhere, not setting up a tent in someone's yard or in front of a business. Where all of them are confined to one area, it makes it easier for law enforcement to keep watch. It also makes it easier for outreach people to keep in contact for humanitarian purposes. While sad for most Americans to see, there it is! And while most of us desire to have success, keep in mind... There before the grace of God go I.
You should do one walking at midnight when all the zombies are out 💀
Good and social job 👍🏼
🙏🙏🙏
Right on rockstar eater thank for showing us how L.A. skid row is
Very sad indeed.💔🙏
3:16 Nerk rohg and gong🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow...this is so sad to see.
You'd think they could section off a park area with trees - fruit trees at that.... and grass with bathrooms and showers. Have them move their "tents" to an area like that. In fact they could start a community vegetable garden garden and let the homeless run it and grow some of their own fruit and veggies. There is no need for them to be on the sidewalks like that. Is there?
how about offering your backyard to them? There are families in the park, do you think it's safe for children to be around there?
@@jy5886 I'm on the wrong coast. If I had enough land that the homeless could access. I might do something like that though. There could at least be some composting toilets set up and some green space for camping. Ideally there would be little or no internet access so they could be free of fearmongering by the media and the powers that should not be. Why wouldn't it be "safe" for children?
@@emilybh6255 god bless you
If it's for a specific purpose then those families shouldn't be there.
@@jy5886 They have gorgeous weather year round they could have FREE FOOD and eat healthfully eating water rich fruit and veggies -- no need to cook anything. They'd all be a hundred times healthier than the rest of us. Someone should do it as an experiment. Maybe it could be crowd funded (if the politicians won't part with some of their GINORMOUS stash as showing in their annual Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) which every municipality puts out in June of every year..
Isn't that near the Greyhound Bus Station?
The buildings have vomitted out their contents leaving people cliniging to their walls for solice.
It looks like so little economic activity in this area.
If all those people had a house they would buy a couch and have cushions and a bed. They are outside the economic system. They can't produce or consume.
I’m surprised you didn’t get punched in the face for filming down there. Many skid row “residents” become very angry if they know they are being photographed.
There are over hundred million people in the world without shelter
You should tour slab city
They got money for wars but can't feed the poor - Tupac Shakur... We live in a world with the poor die hungry -Master P
this is also not that bad. ever been to tijuana?
3rd to 5th street area
Yeah
I live on 5th and wall it's hard on skid row
Keep voting democrat, theyll fix it, surely
It not just the saddest this also very dangerous area I dont recommend you go there. There also lots of crimes there too its dangerous.
🙏🙏
Very sad
I hope you brought them some food or water! That would be polite since you are taking video and not giving them anything.
We should give all homeless people free money to help them.
Hey Steve did you have a gun with you
imagine the smell 🤮🤢
it's not that bad. I mean it smells but it's also outdoors
If a Republican was in charge, this issue would be 10x worse
Nah💀
I don’t feel bad for them at all only a few are not addicts that actually want help. I’ve seen the help that’s offered to the, like rehab, apartment n job placement n they always say no thanks. That they’re not going to follow any rules for free rent lol. So remove the tends n let them sleep on bare floor n see if they don’t get up n try for something better . They’re too comfortable
They don't let them leave its the only place where they let people sleep on the streets like that lol you have no idea what's going on there. Clueless
@@kyleweaver9090 you sound like a resident there.
@@kyleweaver9090 Half of the homeless people in California are from out-of-state....couldn't they just go home instead of having to sleep on our streets?
@@jbudlo2 if there homeless more than likely they won't have a home to go back to. That's why there called homeless get it.
So why show it, if it isn't political or social commentary? It actually is ok to use your platform to comment on social problems. That said, it speaks to our society that in the richest country in the world, in an extremely rich city, this is how people live and have lived for decades. No one has shown any leadership or political will to solve/improve this. Except that one judge who was super exasperated but he has been blocked. There are various organizations that try and help, but the issue is bigger than them.
Maybe it will inspire others to ACT and help versus being a keyboard warrior who does nothing but talk.
To bring awareness
Maybe you can go down there Lisa and get them to stop sticking needles in their arms.
I'm actually based around there weekly apart of efforts for Feed the Streets LA, where we distribute food, medical supplies and other materials to Skid Row, Hollywood and other regions.
We're usually based 505 San Pedro Tuesday/Thursday mornings (7:00 AM) and 6:00 PM on Fridays.
I enjoy your content overall, but thank you for highlighting the not so glamorous parts of LA as well.
This is the most uplifting comment. God bless you for all that you do.
