Yall are praising Mariah while Debelah her registers are more connected. Debelah her registers are very flexible. Of course Mariah has her unique resonance. They are both in their own lane!
@DJ Oldsoulkid this is so true. People really need to check out Debelah's international accomplishments, recognize, and awards. Her transitions are done with ease and in one breath throughout the entire vocal range. It has been examined and proven. She is second to none
I know this old but I will put my 2 cents in. I have most of mariah's catalog during her prime and a few from after. I also own Debelah's music as well. On the low notes, middle voice, and high belts it is Mariah hands down. Other than Toni Braxton, Mariah's low notes are pretty clear. But when it comes to the super head voice and whistle, I'm going to have to give that to Debelah because that girl uses staccato with them high ass notes hitting on point. She is agile as hell with those high notes. How she is able to do runs that high and that fast just blows me away. She sounds like a damn bird when she's doing it. lol
Why do we must always compare artists with the "VS"? Everyone has a UNIQUE style. I just learned about Debelah and I blown away by her whistle register. I have been blessed to have met Mariah Carey in person. I admire both of these recording artists. Can I get a thumbs up somebody?
Debelah is an oustanding vocalist in so many ways. She is the ONLY peer of Mariah in the whistle register and who can change up the quality of the whistle register. Out of all the girls that came out with Coloratura Abilities in the Whistle Register, Debelah is the only one who did not become a second rate version of Mariah.
Debelah was on the wrong label I guess. Her label failed to market her album. So sad. While Mariah was fortunate to be discovered by someone whom is influential in the music industry at that time.
Christmas Additionally, Debelah Morgan has arguably the best _staccato_ runs in popular music. (Maureen McGovern and Debelah Morgan have arguably the most memorable _staccati_ outside of classical music.) Mariah is very impressive in that she can take her _staccati_ way up into the seventh octave, but in terms of speed and precision no one in mainstream music surpasses Debelah Morgan, and few could rival her.
Farrad West I think just vision of love can take her out. She hits a C7 in it which is out of Debelah's range and she executes perfect melisma and masters the art of riffing in that track. Along with a good upper belting register plus the best smokey Eb3 ive ever heard
Love them both so much, but I have to go with Mariah. I just love her tone throughout her whole range and the way she styles her whistles as well, but Debelah can sing her ass off. I wonder what happened to her, I keep going back to her old songs especially Close to you.
MULTIMAN JAZZMAN: So you don't delete your comments--who cares? Anyway, Mariah is great, but has never been very consistent in a live setting, whether you wish to accept that or not.
Lower Register:Mariah. Fuller, stronger, easier. DM was good to though Beltign Regsiter: Debelah was amazing, control and ease was astounding but Mariah takes this one, more resonant, fuller sound, more powerful as we well. Headvoice Register: Tie for me. Debelah's was really nice ample, strong, but liked Mariah's dyanmics with hers Whistle Register: hmmmmm tough. Mariah because she can manipulate the quality of her WR as well and seems overall more ease and power. DM was great too
When you say "extra" you mean the agility? If so then that's wrong lol. Mariah is just as agile as Debelah and is capable of fast riffs, runs, melisma, etc.
Lower Register- Mariah. Rounder and fuller sound down there. Though Debelah is good down there too. Belting Register-Mariah again for pretty much the same reasons, also she has much more resonance, where Debelah is too head dominant for my mix, but not bad. Head Voice-Debelah, she has a more operatic quality that mariah lacks. She also has a more connected sound. Whistle Register- Tie. Both can change up the quality of their registers and match in terms of clarity and agility.
Darlings they don't call her the Queen of all Divas for no reason whatsoever. And we wouldnt still be making a fuss some 20years later if she wasn't either. So lets just rest this topic. While Debelah Morgan is rather talented, Mariah Carey is the clear winner.
Vanessa is great, but couldn't cope with Mariah's more difficult songs like 'Forever', 'O Come All Ye Faithful', etc. Honestly, Vanessa would have trouble with a number of Beyoncé's songs.
Did mariah ever acknowledge this woman as the superior vocalist? I love mariah songs but how come so many of these other artists were obscured by just a few “lucky” ones. Is it the 2 C's again? - Color and Connections? 💢🔥
Okay, I've seen this now, and I must say...Legendary....I put them both equal; it's just that Mariah has more notoriety and publicity than Debelah... Based on this video... In the Middle Chest Register (Ab2 - G#3) - for the video C#3 - F#3 I put MARIAH first because she sounds as though she has practiced more 'winded' Octave singing than Debelah, she's has sung in octaves and held notes longer in this Register... In the Throat Register/Belting Range (Ab4 - G#5) - for the video C5 - G#5 I put MARIAH first because she has a fuller tone than Debelah, who sounds lighter, more lyric than Mariah. In the Mixed Voice Register using Head Voice to Soprano High Head Voice (Ab5 - D#6) - ...video B5 - D6 I put them EQUAL because although Debelah pulled off Colouratura and Melisma here, Mariah's D6 sounded fuller and she did sustain it in this particular Pop song. In the Super Head Voice Register/Connective Whistle Register (Eb6 - G#G) to lower Whistle Register (Ab6 - B#6)- ...video Eb6 - Bb6 I put DEBELAH first because her use of Super Head Voice Staccati and her use of Melisma into Super Head Voice Colouratura and Whistling Colouratura and Staccati is simply UNPARALLELED!!!
Mariah has done even more elaborate runs in that extreme range that weren't shown here that definitely are as fast and agile as Debelah. Take a look at her song All In Your Mind, her performance of Emotions for her Music Box Tour, Don't Forget About Us (the staccato in that whistle is insane, slow it down and count the number of notes you hear.). Mariah's runs are so fast that you literally can't hear every single note sung, she's that bad. Debelah is still a rival for Mariah though. But I think they might be equals in the whistle range.
@musicisunityandlove same can be said for Debelah. However, Debelah has two things over Mariah. She can sing in a registry so high on dogs can hear and can pronounce all her words and notes in the whistler registry, which Mariah can not.
Ms. Carey low notes is good but Debelah’s middle and high notes sounds so effortless and Mariah’s middle and high notes sound like she try’s with sooo much energy 🤣 but now that Debelah and Mariah are both older Mariah’s notes sound terrible to me it feels like she destroyed her vocals I’ve been to a Debelah Morgan Church concert and she still sound like she did back in the 90’s and 2000’s when it comes to middle and high notes and whistling
This is not true. Debelah can not only sing in a registry that only dogs can hear, she can pronounce ALL her words in the whistler registry, which Mariah never could
MARIAH CAREY- because its impossible shes 43 now she been singing since she was young and she hasnt lost her voice one bit. i like debelah morgan but shes more of aye growl voice that suits her when she does that voice but mariah carey is still the best and is known for her whilste NOTEs so dont compare her to anyone because its no use
Vocal equivalents in my opinion . True Coloratura Sopranos 👏

Yes!! Mariah’s vocally to doesn’t sound as good as Debelah

This isn't even the entire vocal range of Mariah but they stopped for Debelahs sake. She is an amazing singer but Mimi has the broader range.
But Debelah has the better connected voice.

She doesn’t sound as good a deb
she can run as fast as she can! and debelah doesn’t use Whistle she use head voice

Mariah destroyed her without watching
SKMRify And she can do it live you should watch her prime vocals...Has more resonance and have even vibrato.
I'm aware of that. But too many people downplay other vocalists in order to glorify their favorites.
What about Maureen McGovern vs Mariah Carey?
