Always wonder what happened. I know she's released gospel work but it seems to have been as sporadic as her RnB pop stuff so she clearly didn't go gospel. I was always such a fan and would love to know what happened, coz the issue was definitely not talent or pedigree or audience. I was listening to her on both black and white stations
It goes to show. It’s not about the talent! It’s about the push and money invested on the artist to reach our ears .. not once but repeatedly reminding you ! What a talent these artist truly are.. but for the many that noticed ! My love has only matched this type of dreamy drama .. and I think . That it’s heavy for the radio .. it’s real
midnight love...ah, I remember friday nights falling asleep to that show. I used to put that show on and watch it in bed when I was like 11-12, fond memories!
Perfect example of that sophisticated soft R&B sound of the late 90s. Gives me similar vibes to Shanice's "When I Close My Eyes." Beautiful music! I hate that I'm just now being put onto this song. This video was hot! Did anyone check that choreography, especially that drop at 3:25!
This song came out my Freshman year in High School… It gave me goosebumps then and still do now… It’s funny how a single songs give you total flashbacks of things occurring back at the point in time that song came out… I definitely had this song on repeat and still do in 2022
I think Debelah Morgan is the perfect example of how shady and messed up the industry can be, and still is, to genuine talent. As someone else stated, she could've easily smoked Aguilera considering the notes that she hits are the ones that Debelah holds AND speaks in clearly. From what I've seen of her, It seemed like at each change of label they smacked a look on her that didn't pop. So once it tanked they probably just blamed her or her songs smh.
I highly doubt it. Debelah bounced around to like 3 different labels in her career while one label cherished Christina. I think at this point she was at a new label.
Music labels don't care about good music or artist. They only care about what people buy. Just take at look at what passes for "good" music these days.
Debelah Debuted in 1994 on Atlantic - then resurfaced on Motown in 98 as we see here then came back in 2000 back on Atlantic (they resigned her not recalling she had been on the label earlier) on her 3rd album she found success with her single "Dance with me" but quickly faded as the industry was again changing and it was about record sales not talent - I do think that had she gotten a good Dianne Warren written David Foster produced song she may have found mainstream success - Toni Braxton was an R&B star with LA and Babyface but "Unbreak my Heart" made her a worldwide success - Debelah needed that one song to break her through - she and her brother Giloh did the sole writing on her sophomore and 3rd album - although talented she needed a different sound. Her voice though spectacular and can hold up to anyone - (the perfect mix of Whitney/Minnie/Mariah) the range/soul and depth and she's a knockout with the looks.
at this point it was Motown who struggled with talent - and Motown was way past it's hey day - around this time if someone bragged I got signed to Motown it was like oh well hope ya career takes off - they struggled during the mid to late 90's bad with artists
No...Mariah’s voice is miles better. Toni I can see the comparison, but definitely not Mariah. Mariah is easily the greatest vocalist of our time. No one can touch her vocals.
Her and Lisa Fischer could have been mega stars. They each had the total package just with the wrong labels. Debelah should have been as huge as Mariah and Toni if she had the right team behind her.
Uuuh I got that chill and memories and feelings flooded me. I remembered the very TV I was watching this on. It was big and had a nasty back but I thought then it was the coolest TV.
Manito arriba si hablas spanish. Si dicen que tiene una super voz. Diganme ¿cómo es posible que sus videos tengan mas dislikes que likes?.Que no entiendo. Ella tiene todo lo que se necesita para ser una artista completa.
they occasionally played the song on urban radio here in the U.S. I remember it, it just took me for ever to find who the hell it was. I had no idea it was her, I recognize her name b/c I like her song "Dance With Me"
I looooove this song.. And I dont recall ever seeing this video back in the day! But for some reason it's hard to "watch" her sing this.. Hmph.. I dunno..Jammin song though!
Yes! When I listened to this I thought the same thing. They kinda do that mumbling thing when they sing. I could definitely see Toni singing this. I agree though both of them are great.
@Thkmra , I don't know if it was on a sountrack but it use to come on the radio all the time down here in Atlanta. Like I said, THIS WAS MY JAM!!!! oh and don't let the video come on!
Im so glad i found this song after all these years
She had talent how did she not go big on charts etc her voice is something what in 2024 no one knows in music unfortunately
A moment of silence for those who haven't found this masterpiece yet
I hope we can get an Unsung episode on her. She had a hell of a voice.
She superunderated she should been bigger then she was

OMG.. I miss this song... I just knew she was gonna be the next big thing. I'm pissed that her record company didn't do more with her.

At this time was WHITE pop era. Extremely racist time in music. That's why she didn't make it.
This is still my jam.
If Mariah Carey and Toni Braxton had a daughter! I love them!
Or Toni and Deborah Cox.
@@Ladyvirtue_1 he should've said sister.

This is very Toni Braxton inspired: the faces, the song, the way she sings (of course, Toni 's voice is lower) ... But I really Like them both!
