Kinda like how she used more falsettos in the early One and All shows, not because they were better, but just because she hadn't adapted to her new chest voice style yet.

ARIANA for me does not sound right at all. hitting a note in the fifth octave with zero core and an atrophied chest is not singing. She would have no voice left soon because of her technique which has reduced her voice to a papar thing weightless whisper. Terrible quality and obvious she has zero cord closure.
This can also be seen with The Elusive Chanteuse Show tour. She started extra rough but got better as the shows went on. Caution was kinda strange though, she started rough and got better, but then there came a lot of incosistencies, kinda like Rainbow.

Great video! Thank you for putting something positive out there. Tired of the comments from people who feel like they deserve live vocals at all times. It's like okay, 2024 did not serve that. She's had a lot of personal matters going on. Let's do the HUMAN thing and give her some, respect, and grace. Let's let her know that "anytime she needs a friend we will...be here." 🥰
the problem is the only time Mariah gave live vocals all the time was 1990-96. I do not think her fans demand live vocals all the time. A section of the fans are okay to pretend lipped vocals are live. another section want her to be able to sing one of gigs completely live and lip parts of her concerts but not whole concerts which is habitual now. I believe lambs are the most malleable and accepting of lipped vocals of any fandom especially of an artist the caliber of a Mariah. I think they are more like she should drop the keys, new arrangements and sing live from time to time. That is not a tall ask.
@@odumosuolusegun2781 I absolutely agree with you. Through all the noise we've seen in comments, I think the frustration with some lambs is that hey, if I am going to take time off work, buy an airline ticket, and a concert ticket, I expect the majority of the show to be live vs lipped. I kinda have to agree with them there. I think a 70/30 ratio is very fair to expect. Key changes and different arrangements are to be expected. I think two songs that have been harder to sing in recent years that deserve a makeover are "Fantasy" and "My All". I'm on eggshells wondering how is this performance going to be and it's not great great. The other songs have been adapted to pretty well; however, I think these two need an overhaul or should be excluded from the setlist if they cannot be arranged in a healthy, less-complicated manner. Hope that makes sense. I'm sure someone will come for me for that comment but that's just my mere opinion. I don't have anything personal against those songs. Maybe even shortening them to interludes as to whole songs may be the proper approach. I personally would love to see Mariah go on tour with a show called "My Favorites" where she sings deep cuts and the catalog of her favorite songs. I did go to her Vegas show in April 2024 and, though there may have been a good amount of lipping going on, I and the crowd were entertained and were cheering her on.
I didn’t realize those first shows on the CB tour were rough. The issue with Mariah, is she would save a lot of her upper register for the studio when she could make it sound “perfect” and never really took the time to translate that to live performances. Not because she was incapable, but simply since she didn’t build that muscle memory and confidence to just let her voice flourish. She usually every tour gets better and better as she builds confidence and works out those vocal muscles. I wish she had taken time to really commit to replicating all her capabilities in a live setting, and not been so worried about being studio perfect. It would’ve benefitted her so much, and today.
the voice does not work like that. she is known for doing multiple takes in the studio to get her belts. Live shows does not guarantee that option unfortunately, and on the upper belts. let us be serious she did not get them right like that after Glitter. They were altered , pitch shifted etc. I really feel more of the truth should be told and not reinforcing group believes that are not just true.
@@odumosuolusegun2781 By this logic, you're saying when she improved as the tours went on that she did multiple belts to 'get them right' live on stage? Carey does multiple takes in the studio to sing them differently and have a wealth of options to choose from while creating a song or to use for an extended mix. You sound like a know-it-all with a Napoleon complex.
Thank you I’ve been saying this. I will admit some of the tours she started off strong ( for example, daydream and butterfly) and then her voice got weak or very pitchy as the tour continued. Let’s not forget the big tour with Lionel Richie Mariah stayed consistent the entire tour and was slaying okay! Even her Christmas tours in 2014-2017 It’s possible for her. All she needs to do is lower those keys and space out the dates a little. I’ve said this a millions times Mariah lower register and very much still there and stronger. She just has to accept the fact that she doesn’t need to do all those high acrobatics with her voice anymore, I mean if she’s feeling it, go for it.
The only thing worse than oversinging is not singing at all. She clearly needs the tours and shows to warm up her voice and get accustomed to constant use.
I think one thing that's scared her over the years, particularly in the late 2010s (which i think is also not talked about often) is how much her voice degraded and her excessive touring worked against her (in this case). It mainly started in 2016 when she started with ssft but then following her second residency, then third and then beacon it became a bit too much. Her voice was in a good condition in that year but you could clearly see it tiring out, which i think is one of the reasons her voice did degrade then (along with others). 2017 was somewhat balanced but 2018 was also another overly packed year where it started of with 2 residencies, then an album, then a tour and finally a christmas tour. No wonder her voice was tired by the christmas tour and no wonder the change in her voice and technique in the month and year to follow. In short, I can understand why she is hesitant in touring live, particularly when she's been through a comfortable period of rest.
ok another hypothesis I have is that these periods of improvement are mostly NOT due to luck. People act like Mariah's voice is some mystery controlled by the cosmos, but its very clear to me that she didn't drink during these periods and wanted her voice to improve. I really don't think she did regular warm ups, but perhaps better overall vocal care and perhaps exercises, or at least thinking about placement. These are things that didn't exist in TAOM, for example, since Mimi finally proved herself and let the champagne start flowing. However it is true that they didn't have to deal with an inflamed voice, unlike Butterflyriah, which to me it seems like she somewhat prepared for the first show, but the nodules kinda got worse as it went on.
I think in the earlier days of her career it was more about the actual condition of her voice , nowadays it feels like her mentality is totally different , she doesn’t seem to have the passion she had or the desire to even be there let alone give the best show she could. Praying for a major live singing comeback I know she can do it
@@VMariah yeah I agree , I just think she’s so mentally done with singing at this point , I don’t think lamb would even mind if she took a few years off to take care of her mental and physical health and even just stayed active on social media etc. she’s earned every right to do whatever at this point

@@xejelah I’m sure she could get out of it or at least amend the contract. How long/for how many shows is the contract? Usually contracts for music artists are for a certain amount of albums or a singular tour
Daydream she sang 1 concert per week. Then, took a month off, and finished her last 3 concerts once a week. 8 concerts total. Butterfly had 13 concerts total, but she attempted to do 2 concerts a week with a few weeks break before her final Hawaii performances. Rainbow she was doing 2-3 concerts/wk for 40 shows. I remember in Atlanta she told us she had some bad oysters and had some food poisoning, so if she dropped on stage she'd like someone to call 911. She wasn't joking - the next day she was in CT and in the hospital to have her stomach pumped due to food poisoning.
@@andrewgarfield9898 difficult one but it was not what she sang to the crowd that we heard, so it was post production dubbed or partially lipped. I hEAR lipped parts but not the full climax sounds like that
Yes, when we look at periods when Mariah's voice improved over a longer period of time, basically the only periods are 1990-93 (or 95), 2000-2004, and 2022-2023 (uh 24 if you want). The first era was because Mariah was very motivated to prove herself and then later Tommy forced her to take vocal lessons (aka Music box vibrato). then she got sick of the vocal lessons around 1994, and started finding a new singing style with more slurred words and brightness. Sometimes the technique was forgotten since she only had muscle memory at this point. The next era was because rainbow tour was a little hectic and the public doesn't respect me so let me get my voice ready for my come back. Charmie was *thinking* about technique, similar to 2023. "2022 triggered my Rockefeller/NYE flashbacks so let me just take a second and think about my voice. oh wait I can think about vibrato but also what if I lip a lot more since I don't know if I want to count on my voice in the future."
@@odumosuolusegun2781 It was actually only 19 dates 😅 I think they were referring to the change in the quality of her vibrato in 1993 which may be implicative of some vocal lessons going on BTS. Do you think she had them around that time? She seemed to be in good form in 1993 compared to the other years
Tommy didn't do crap. Mariah was playing with her voice. In 92, she actually had some time off which was the major difference between 90-92 where she was working albums back to back. After MTV unplugged she had a full year to make a new album. She created Hero for Gloria and that song for Barbra Streisand's show that didn't make the cut. She was experimenting a lot. That's also how she had the time to do real remixes.
Will she sing Vision of Love again a tone lower like she did until 2022? Honestly, this song is much better in a low key, like Fly Like a Bird and All I want to christmas is you in a half tone lower. now there are some that she could never change the tone of like Fantasy, Always My Baby And most importantly!! We belong to who 🥶🙏🙏
A comprehensive evaluation of vocal quality based on an entire concert performance should serve as the normative standard, rather than the isolated assessment of a single, non-vibrato note within a song, particularly one that is strained to reach the final F. Mariah Carey has been observed to experience vocal strain, occasionally by the second song, as exemplified by her performance in Tokyo in 1998, on the opening night. Following a series of emotionally resonant notes akin to a daydream, she was unable to achieve a C5 after the initial song for the remainder of the concert. An exhaustive analysis of each of those performance dates necessitates the inclusion of multiple songs throughout each event. It is conceivable that she may successfully reach a particular note in one song only to subsequently exhaust her vocal capacity in the following piece. Such occurrences do not constitute a valid assessment of vocal health. Moreover, it is imperative to acknowledge that the "Charm Bracelet" era marked the onset of a pattern of habitual lip-syncing. While she had previously engaged in this practice during the "Rainbow" and "Butterfly" tours, which consisted of 27 and 12 dates respectively, it was executed to a significantly lesser extent. Personally, I would advocate for utilizing a non-lip-synced performance such as "Music Box" or "Daydream" as a benchmark, while using these other lip-synced concerts as comparative references for one's argument. The excessive emphasis on isolated notes to imply that a voice is functioning optimally is indeed problematic and fosters unrealistic expectations. The voice operates as a cohesive entity rather than a collection of discrete notes. Critical aspects such as the freedom within a note and the presence of vibrato are not being evaluated. For instance, singing a sustained note without vibrato is indicative of constriction in contrast to a note that exhibits vibrato. A healthy vocal technique should allow for a natural transition into vibrato in a fluid manner, which serves as an indicator of vocal wellness. Producing a straight note signifies an imposition of resistance rather than permitting the sound to naturally evolve into vibrato. Other parameters, such as her management of vocal transitions, clarity, legato, fluidity, and agility, ought to be the focal points of measurement rather than an isolated note. In the case of MTV Unplugged, it is evident that she compromised her vocal health by the fourth song, as she herself acknowledged in the version that she was losing her voice. The quality of her voice within a single performance can fluctuate from being sharp and pristine to lacking power in the middle section.
Btw do you think this applies to Christmas 2024? I've seen some people say that she got a bit drier (in ABMB specifically) as the days went on, but I'm not sure.
tbh I don't think she was singing enough to really experience a change in her voice. The ABMB attempts are so sparse and different every night, and Hark and My All had ups and downs but no clear pattern until she got sick and everything went downhill. It seems like it mostly just depended on the day
@@jacksonsunwoo if only she had a summer tour like SSFT, I'm sure it would play out even better than Christmas 2023 and she wouldn't get sick on the last show😭

ARIANA for me does not sound right at all. hitting a note in the fifth octave with zero core and an atrophied chest is not singing. She would have no voice left soon because of her technique which has reduced her voice to a papar thing weightless whisper. Terrible quality and obvious she has zero cord closure.
3:13 HELP WHY DID I LAUGH AT THIS 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
Lmao😭. Everyone has bad days
The way the clip just instantly ends 💀💀🤣
LOVE this video, it proves your point really clearly
This can also be seen with The Elusive Chanteuse Show tour. She started extra rough but got better as the shows went on. Caution was kinda strange though, she started rough and got better, but then there came a lot of incosistencies, kinda like Rainbow.
do you guys think more touring dates will work on her voice now? like, if she goes back to her pre-pandemic formula on only lipping the climax?
maybe not pre-pandemic formulas but a mixture of fully lipped and partially lipped songs like 2023 will work I think
I love how clear & simple you analysed the tours in this video, I feel like you should make a more in-depth analysis video for the Charmbracelet era (including pre & post tour performances). It was interesting to see her voice transition from Glitter to TEOM era during these years.
You know the saying "practice makes perfect 💅". I can confirm that

Wow greaaat work lambs!
Great video! Thank you for putting something positive out there.
Tired of the comments from people who feel like they deserve live vocals at all times. It's like okay, 2024 did not serve that. She's had a lot of personal matters going on. Let's do the HUMAN thing and give her some, respect, and grace.
Let's let her know that "anytime she needs a friend we will...be here." 🥰
@@DJQTUBE true. We need nuance in these situations.
the problem is the only time Mariah gave live vocals all the time was 1990-96.
0:02 can we talk about the intro 😭that would eat live so bad
Thanks again
omg charmie tour has so MANY shows
another good example is what happened to her elusive chanteuse tour where she really struggle in Japan yet getting better as the tour progress
Practice makes perfect. Just like Serena in 2012-2013 actually playing more than in her 20s.
In short, I can understand why she is hesitant in touring live, particularly when she's been through a comfortable period of rest.
what do you mean excessive touring when she was lipping plus 60 percent of the concerts?
Back in 2016-2020 she wasn't lipping 60% of her shows. It definitely was less than 50%
SHOW 13'S WHISTLE >>>>>
the fact that she did how many shows an eraaa???
ok another hypothesis I have is that these periods of improvement are mostly NOT due to luck.
2:41 that vibrato was FAT
2003riah it is 😂❤
I think in the earlier days of her career it was more about the actual condition of her voice , nowadays it feels like her mentality is totally different , she doesn’t seem to have the passion she had or the desire to even be there let alone give the best show she could. Praying for a major live singing comeback I know she can do it
The biggest effort we've seen her make in recent years was probably the 2023 Christmas tour😭 but even that is still only a fraction of her potential
@@VMariah yeah I agree , I just think she’s so mentally done with singing at this point , I don’t think lamb would even mind if she took a few years off to take care of her mental and physical health and even just stayed active on social media etc. she’s earned every right to do whatever at this point
@@ScottD_ She can't. She signed a deal with Live Nation in 2017. Then, had to cancel her tours in 2020. She's still under contract with them and needs to perform until it's done.
@@xejelah I’m sure she could get out of it or at least amend the contract. How long/for how many shows is the contract? Usually contracts for music artists are for a certain amount of albums or a singular tour
You could probably include TECS tour as well
How many charm dates are we missing? I’m so curious.
i wonder if butterfly or daydream tour had toured as much as charm or teom would it have helped?
Daydream she sang 1 concert per week. Then, took a month off, and finished her last 3 concerts once a week. 8 concerts total. Butterfly had 13 concerts total, but she attempted to do 2 concerts a week with a few weeks break before her final Hawaii performances. Rainbow she was doing 2-3 concerts/wk for 40 shows. I remember in Atlanta she told us she had some bad oysters and had some food poisoning, so if she dropped on stage she'd like someone to call 911. She wasn't joking - the next day she was in CT and in the hospital to have her stomach pumped due to food poisoning.
wait do you think the one wbt performance in 2005 where the climax seemed to be live was actually fully live? 🦄
Bet blueprint? Maybe but I’m leaning toward yes, or at least partially live
@ thank u 🤍
@@VMariahI think it was fully live but may have been dubbed a little. Wish there was undubbed audio of it
@@andrewgarfield9898 difficult one but it was not what she sang to the crowd that we heard, so it was post production dubbed or partially lipped. I hEAR lipped parts but not the full climax sounds like that
@@VMariah It was a live acoustic set. If there was any alterations it would have to be done in post. She wasn't set up for lipsyncing.
27 dates is not hectic especially if climaxes were lipped.
She had vibrato from pre music box.
Are there any other photos from that white-blue dress from the thumbnail omg???
That’s from the opening night in Seoul! It’s the only photo I could find unfortunately
We belong to who 🥶🙏🙏
2043 next 😍
early 😍
Como vc esta agora que eu faço pra beija muito abraço pra você minina bela linda demais 🔥🔥❤️🌹🦋🍭🍷🦜🇧🇷
It seems like it mostly just depended on the day
@@VMariahyeah you’re right. Hopefully we’ll see this pattern play out this year though 🙏

I genuinely think a big big part of the deterioration of her voice is genuinely the lack of using it. Not exercising it properly before going on stage then trying to execute some of the hardest live vocals of any artists catalog, definitely cost her. It’s like stretching before dance class or gymnastics, one of the reasons you do it is too LOWER the chances of injuring yourself. Same goes for the vocal cords.
I feel like she’s not testing her technique.. but if she would rehearse her voice would sound good from the first show

If Mimi consistently used her voice more she would improve A LOT.
I know that it's damaged but i wish she would take measures to improve her singing 😢
As this video shows, even just 10-15 minutes of singing per show could be enough to warm up her voice consistently.
no. Her voice is damaged she needs a full vocal rehabilitation using a damaged voice with bad technique will in the long run regress it further from where it started.
@@jacksonsunwoo Not true. A damaged a voice like hers needs a full rehab. surgery/ vocal coach/ speech therapy. what you think is improvement is not. She might start at 30 percent and end at 50 percent but after the tour the voice would loose something and probably end up at 25 percent when she tries to sing again . A reset and that reset through another damaging use will end up at 40 percent and 50 and so on and so forth
@@odumosuolusegun2781yes I do think that she needs some serious professional voice work, but it’s still better for her to be practicing her voice every concert so that she can see where she needs to improve.

no. She is never executing her hardest vocals recorded n the studio. she has the backing tracks which she lips too executing it on her behalf. Her voice is damaged and constant use a damaged voice without treatment and rehab will reset to a lower level even if it seems to have improved within the timeline of the tour, the voice will reset to a worse level post tour.
