- Опубліковано 5 лип 2021
- The i3 was the first electric vehicle in BMW's range, and has been available since 2013.
This is the i3s - with Sport Mode.
It costs around £35,000.00 on the road, and will give you a range of around 150 miles (WLTP)

Excellent review
Thank you Keenan
I flippin loved my i3! Miss it so much. The nissan leaf just doesn't have the same buzz you get from driving the i3 from the traffic lights.
Couldn't agree more! It's a demon from the lights *A
Just asking why the heck you would move from this to a Leaf? Range and bigger battery?
@@michaeldawson6309 purely practicality. We have two children and it really was just too tight especially the boot space. For every other reason the i3 was amazing!!!!!
A great review. I would love to own one of these as my first electric car. It seemed to love the way you chucked it around the corners. Keep up the goood snappy videos
Glad you liked it - l missed the driving section, but it looked fun 👍 *A
I've just come to the end of a 4 year lease on my CHR and I've had Hybrids now for 12 years and love them. I have always wanted an EV but they were always too much and range was low on the models I could afford. Well no longer in 2022 I got a lovely i3 2019 low mileage for £25K and decent range 150-180 miles just perfect and to top it off a carbon composite shell and no metal doors so no car park dents. Its just perfect. :-)
It’s good but for the price a new model 3 is a better deal considering range and cost of tires
Best review of i3s on yt
Awesome, thank you Shiraz
Yep that's why I have just bought one. Not the S but came across a lovely 2019 variant in Suite trim leather seats its quality like you say and so fun. Can't see me wanting to ever sell this :-) Paid £25K with 19K miles on it. In mint condition. Bargain.
This still remains one of our firm favourites, and it looks like you found the perfect one, enjoy
How is it in the snow? I was considering getting one (we need a 3rd car) until Ben mentioned it's a rear wheel drive car.
Have the 2019 model of the i3s; love it.
They’re amazing motors, they really are, thank you Me
Thanks for the review it was great! I am looking for an electric car to replace my hybrid company car so I found this very informative.
Great to hear Ben, it’s a fantastic car.
I have done just that last week. Was looking to buy my 4 year old CHR if its was around 13-14K as all my other 4 year old lease cars were but no in 2022 2nd hand cars are daft and it was close to 19K so what do you do... well buy a 1 year younger car with less miles and higher quality and spend a little more for an excellent product. I will pay £25K any day for one of these and its even sweeter if its a lovely example with leather suite and mint. Yes I liked my CHR and it was going to be my car for few more years until more EV examples came in stream but at these 2nd hand prices for an i3 small super car I want one. Range is just perfect as I never drive more than 90 miles one way anyway so at a pinch maybe I could return without charging but hey its such a small battery 42Kwh it charges fast and at my other house 90 miles away I have a 7Kw charger so all is good and works for us. Love it.
Great review, nice to see you chucking it around hard. I have the AC Schnitzer modified i3s. On a side note, probably the best mod anyone can do to any i3 is wheel spacers.
Oh yes, now that’s a car, would love to experience that, thank you for the advice and kind words Samuel
It's funny, we're looking to pick up a 3rd car, and I've looked at at least 10 i3 videos and yours is the first that mentioned that it's a rear wheel drive car, something I, for whatever reason, forgot to check when considering which car to buy. What a shame. They are selling for $24K or less used (2017,2018 model) and still have the $7,500 tax credit, so you could honestly land up picking one up for $17-18k. Rear wheel drive? Ugggh! I think I'll land up picking up the 2019 Mini Cooper Countryman All4 PHEV. Most of my trips are about 10-15 miles round trip and can done on the battery. Rear wheel drive in the snow? No thanks.
RWD in the snow is fun, and more to the point the cars that damn heavy due to batteries you won’t notice it. It puts the power down rather efficiently, it sounds like AWD would suit you😀
I have the same car but 2019. It is the best traffic light grand prix sleeper car ever . I bought used for £23k. Another 50 mile range would be great. Cant really fault it so far.
They are, the guy I was knocking about with was insistent he’d beat me on all levels in the Honda e, especially with it being lowered, no. This had the edge - and way more range, thank you Mr Brittas hope the leisure centres ship shape.
@@PlanetautoUK Lol glad you know your old Brit comedies.
We do indeed Old Rimmer, and it’s crazy how Cryton is one of the most recognised EV advocate and journalist, mind you he technically was one, thank you Gordon
Gordon - how did you manage to get it so cheaply? This spec car used from 2020is now around £32k.
Used motors have rocketed up in the last year or so for literally every model, crazy
Great first EV.......
Yes, it is, id have one - thank you Trev *B
Did you say "Android Auto"?!? Does that actually work?
It works in OS 7 - 8, i3s seems to have a variant meaning Apple works yet AA needs integration however it’s relatively easy with say something like a Tech Wizard BMW, apologies for the confusion Thor.
Is the original and best ev pity bmw will be stopping production
Yes, it really is a shame, be interesting to see if they replace it
The back door is the down side
But it looks so cool with both open and allows for easier cargo loading, thank you Toram
You’re no fun…
Who is?
20 inch wheels but they are very narrow... Of course that's the best idea for energy saving just don't expect normal 20 inch wheel grip - and they look silly from the front or rear angle..
Great vehicle BMW but the retail price brings it too close to a Tesla Model 3 which is just much more car for not much more money..
It’s an interesting one, I think it looks good from all angles, mind you I like the wide track look, due to build - composite and it’s updated powertrain it’s a fair chunk of cash, I’d opt for this over a 3, purely due to its quirkiness and maybe it’s handling, thank you Mark
@@PlanetautoUK maybe a lightly used one that has lost a lot of the list price might be the best answer.. I can see the i3 being a great urban car..
Yes, that would reduce the cost quite significantly I’d expect, yet not compromise battery integrity etc thank you Mark
@@newbeginnings8566 It's not really the same price as a model3 though. New M3 is £44,995 and the i3s is £34,995-£2500 grant so £32495 before haggling. £12k difference is a lot.
Plus all prices are way up on used motors currently
Unfortunately wayyyy too expensive for your 20k a year normal worker was made for the wealthy as all ev's are but great car.
They’re about 13k currently, the older variants, thank you Steve
@@PlanetautoUK I've had a look at dealers near myself stoneacre and evans halshaw however they want circa £21k for 2017/2018 models in the north of UK I also like Mustang Mach E but double this price
That’s not bad, considering the hiked up prices currently, we’d like to drive the Mach e
@@PlanetautoUK Yes prices of used vehicles are crazy we have a 17 plate skoda yeti bought ex demo full sh 15000 miles as new paid £16500k simular cars £23000k ! Brilliant car yes I know it's ice but brilliant 2.0tdi excellent economy and performance dsg gearbox we only cover 3000 miles a year so ev's are expensive in comparison but do like i3s and Mack E also like Mustang V8!
@@stevewalsh-balshaw1727 one of our favourite vehicles was our Picasso Diesel, we love big engines regardless of fuel, and EV are the future and fun too
