The JBL Boombox 3 is a disappointment! Everything is not JUST about the most bass possible!! LOTS of bass does not equal High sound quality! The speaker is a 2.1 way or 3 way as JBL writes. It has 2 tweeters, 2 midranges and a bass speaker. The treble covers almost the entire midrange! JBL uses built-in DSP. Digital sound processing and JBL can really adjust for good sound quality if they want to. But instead, the adjustment is often based on sales! if the speaker had been adjusted for best sound quality or included 10 bond adjust bar EQ. then the sale of new editions will not be so easy. Incredibly disappointing of JBL to always do it this way. Are there any bluetooth speakers with good sound? Yes, but then it's not as portable anymore. (Audio Pro C20). Is it difficult to make a bluetooth speaker with a good midrange and treble sound? NO. NO. Is it expensive! NO. NO.

I'm honestly still very happy with my JBL Boombox 1 5 years later, battery still lasting easily 20+ hours. The Boombox 3 definitely sounds way better across the spectrum and I'll prob upgrade eventually and be even more blown away in person. Keeping both or using the Boombox 1 in more wild scenarios. Wish they kept their proprietary paring tech the same on them all but perhaps there are genuine connection quality upgrades.

The max volume feels like double, the bass is definitely punchier like a professional surround system, the mids and highs are a lot more clear - metal/rock/classical/jazz actually sound a lot more clear on the 3 compared to the 1. Comparing them helps a lot. Funny with movies it actually sounds more clear and surround than our old soundbar and subwoofer.

Curiously, I've tried Y-cable 3.5mm linking 1st and 2nd generation JBLs and noticed their timing was off BUT it's still nothing engineers can't solve in backwards compatibility :D Comparing my JBL Boombox 1 with the Boombox 3 though, I'm still absolutely blown away in the quality difference - well worth the upgrade if anyone is curious. Boombox 1 still honestly sounds fine and it one of the better bluetooth speakers out there for the size and weight but Boombox 3 indeed surpasses it significantly in quality.
I feel like the difference is only this big because you actually hear them after each other playing. If you only hear the bb2 without hearing the bb3 afterwards you will still be shocked how well it sounds. Correct me if i am wrong tho.
I think the opposite, Boombox 3 sounds bad because it's compared to Boombox 2 (as Boombox 2 is more balanced). Boombox 3 can sound good on its own depending if you like sharp sound
Sent back my stormbox blast and picked up a bb3 last week on sale for $429. Great sound. I like the bright signature to cut through background noises while outside or at work(factory).
I’ve had the Boombox 2 since last summer got it at Walmart with $100 off the original price love it I’ve owned the original too in forest green love JBL Bluetooth speakers
Its great hearing all three of them side by side. My heart is still with the BB1, the BB2 sounds recessed in the highs, and the BB3 just sounds brighter and has stronger bass. My concern is with the oval driver. Over time, the stress of the oval design "might" cause the woofer to come part. There is a good reason most speakers are round. There is "equal" force on all sides as the cone moves. Once you start changing the shape of the driver/woofer, there is the potential for a driver cone failure. I bring this up, as most flat screen TV's have oval full range speakers, and its the cone that fails 90% of the time. The extra weight is probably from this 3:55 to 4:15 which is nice. You do not have to carry that brick around, but it is now inside the unit making it a bit heavier. One of the biggest issues with JBL at this time is this 14:13. They need to correct this! Party boost and connect + need to to be compatible with each other. I understand that they are using different BT versions, but this should not handicap the older model from working with the newer units. If they can rectify this, I'm 100% sure there sale's would be much stronger as folks like me would pair the BB3 and BB2 up with my BB1, and get a full collection of charge 5's and extreme 3's. JBL has dropped the ball on this compatibility issue.
The shape of the speaker is irrelevant. The materials it's made out of is a different story. I have 6x9" speakers that are 30 years old still performing as new. To be honest, the only failures I've had has been round drivers with soft foam surrounds. Substandard glue and surrounds will result in failure, irrespective of the shape.
Very true about the shoulder strap, they add it for the Xtreme but for a bulky ass speaker that’s nearly 15 pounds they didn’t? Would be so easy to add two places to clip a strap onto
I got the Thodio A-BOX for my son this Christmas, according to him, "best present ever". The sound is incredible, 320 watts, audiophile components, and a huge battery to take this great sound everywhere
im glad that there isnt much of a difference between the 2 and the 3 in terms of bass but the 3 for sure has crisper high end sounds id probably buy the 3 for in home, and start to beat up my current 2 outside, maybe even store the 2 in the car for on the go needs
Did you even turn on frequency extension on the original? There's no difference between my original and my buddies 3 in person with this turned on and the only 10w in power output is hardly if any noticeable difference. JBL is going to have to do way better to get me to spend about $500 for basically the same thing i already have, however, this thing is freaking amazing.
Still rocking the BB1 ... No issues 4 years in and its still good for a small/medium sized friendly gathering outside. Not gonna upgrade until failure or BB4.

Its not so easy to have a substantial change in the speaker industry in this time period, however the boombox 3 is noticeably louder, clearer, and deeper than the 1. Pretty impressive stuff

i don't know why you not testing at 100% test. as i mentioned in every video that performance will appear at 100% volume. as mostly boombox 3 are becoming at 100% volume too bad bass hearing because of so much mid range speaker responsing

I have the original boombox and I've been running it for years at work never had a problem with battery life lasts multiple work days if you don't play it at 100%

I'd choose Boombox 2, it's cheaper and more balanced sounding. It have almost the same bass as Boombox 3. Boombox 1 is harsh in the treble and doesn't have much deep bass. And Boombox 3 is harsh in the mids and lack punch.
Based on this video I'd say the worst sounding one out of those three is the BB2. If price is a concern, you could find a used BB1 if you're willing to sacrifice a bit of battery life.
Yes the battery will damage and youll also damage your charger in 6 months . I used to do the same with my boombox 1 and in 4 years i have damaged 3 chargers. But that extra loudness while plugged in is something i cant ignore .

5:19 Get rid of USB? Blasphemy! We need USB for multiple reasons, 1. Can play off usb stick 2. no, first bb doesnt have partyboost but if u have a tv u can play together as one or if the tv have an app u can play music together but the bb3 is so powerful u won't hear the first gen bb

not for me,im into hifi speakers i feel like jbl is going with bowers and wilkins speakers which is leaning towards bright sound signature,it might caught your attention at first listen coz it may have a clear and dynamic sound but in the long listening session it will cause ear fatigue caused by sibilance sound
I second that...those high hiss sound definately hits like ear piercing after a prolong session of listening...at first it amaze you how clear and brighter it sound and later on it will give you a headache... Bb3 besides improved a lot in bass section it gotten worse in highs...they should trim down a little bit of that harshness for favourable listening. I have charge 5 and it is pretty good for listening songs in a living room but my bb2 sounds much better than charge 5 interms of nice instrument separation and dynamics without any ear piercing feeling.

For anyone who has the Boombox 3, skip to 10:57 and do what this man says with the EQ in the JBL Portable app🙏🏻🙏🏻 I just upgraded from my original Boombox to the BB3 (3.5 years of faithful service, RIP worth every penny). At first it was sounding a little bright but then I followed gymcaddy's advice with the EQ and I'm so glad I did. It sounds absolutely perfect now
Batteries have a shelf life. Integrated batteries are not good because the device would need to be taken apart to replace the battery eventually, which is roughly 2 years. Folks who don't know this will end up just throwing away the device.

For me it looks like your decibel sensor isnt that accurate. It measure the same db for xtreme 3 as the boombox

Yes the battery will damage and youll also damage your charger in 6 months . I used to do the same with my boombox 1 and in 4 years i have damaged 3 chargers. But that extra loudness while plugged in is something i cant ignore .

We need USB for multiple reasons, 1. Can play off usb stick 2. USB is backwards and forwards compatible :D - We need to keep things as Universal as possible, think about why USB was made, and remember USB-C will change in the future, USB will not, so before you worship usb-C and then the next and next, never forget, USB is o.g and way more universal especially if you had older hardware like me, so no, keep usb all the way from me!
I have old 10 year old phones that use just normal usb/micro-usb, so it pays to be backward compatible, I think it should have both!

no, first bb doesnt have partyboost but if u have a tv u can play together as one or if the tv have an app u can play music together but the bb3 is so powerful u won't hear the first gen bb

i think the Boombox 3 might be a lil louder, while the 110 will probably have more bass and sound more dynamic
@@domepugliese the 110 has more lower mids, which is an advantage for outdoors, but the boombox 3 delivers more clarity with nicer upper mids and highs, it goes louder outdoors overall, and has a little deeper on the low end

not for me,im into hifi speakers i feel like jbl is going with bowers and wilkins speakers which is leaning towards bright sound signature,it might caught your attention at first listen coz it may have a clear and dynamic sound but in the long listening session it will cause ear fatigue caused by sibilance sound

I just got charge 5 and my ear hurts just listening to it for 30 min…. It seems to tire out my eardrums..
I second that...those high hiss sound definately hits like ear piercing after a prolong session of listening...at first it amaze you how clear and brighter it sound and later on it will give you a headache...
Bb3 besides improved a lot in bass section it gotten worse in highs...they should trim down a little bit of that harshness for favourable listening.
I have charge 5 and it is pretty good for listening songs in a living room but my bb2 sounds much better than charge 5 interms of nice instrument separation and dynamics without any ear piercing feeling.
@@YTYTYTY7 Put the treble to -1 in the JBL app. That make the treble pretty much flat, and way more enjoyable

I just upgraded from my original Boombox to the BB3 (3.5 years of faithful service, RIP worth every penny). At first it was sounding a little bright but then I followed gymcaddy's advice with the EQ and I'm so glad I did. It sounds absolutely perfect now

Batteries have a shelf life. Integrated batteries are not good because the device would need to be taken apart to replace the battery eventually, which is roughly 2 years. Folks who don't know this will end up just throwing away the device.
