My ancestor came over on the Winthrop Fleet flagship "Arbella". Winthrop Diary was a great insight into the journey and early life in colonial Massachusetts.
I have a family reunion coming up! There will be about 40 of us and I am going to ask some questions to the oldest and 2nd oldest generations. What type of questions should I ask? The eldest will be 98 and the youngest at 32
@Write Your Family History, Here’s a Family Math puzzle for you. Family Search has this feature where they tell you what famous people you are related to. My wife and I are both cousins to FDR. I'm 7th Cousin 4x Removed, while my wife is 6th Cousin 4x Removed. Does this make my wife and I 13th Cousins 4x Removed from each other or are the degrees multiplied?
I'd have to really dig into that to find the answer. However, you could force FamilySearch to tell you how you might be related by disconnecting yourselves. Then, run the relationship calculator. However, you might run into the "living person" problem. So... yeah. I can't really help. Maybe WikiTree has a way to figure it out.
@WriteYourFamilyHistory DNA says all 8 Billion people on the planet are cousins. Your father and mother are cousins to each other which makes them YOUR cousin as well.

Ohh!!!! I love when diaries can help us get some historical context.
Cemetery Walks with local historical societies are another way to find insight into your ancestors future. It's a fun way to learn.
Oooh!!! Great idea.
I found a document that listed my ancestor as being the first in town to own the new fangled washing machine.
Sweet!!! That's awesome
@@WriteYourFamilyHistory I finding some great tidbits in MyHeritage Old News. Some my family may not appreciate. lol Still part of the story.
Well, if it's in "Old News", it's old news not matter the appreciation factor. ;)

Gosh, I'm so sorry I didn't respond in a timely fashion. What questions did you wind up asking?

@@WriteYourFamilyHistory Or do I have to trace the CA that we connect to FDR thru and determine the degrees from there?

@@whyaskwhybuddry If it matters to you, then that would be my recommendation.
