Me too! I used to fly on DC-10s on LH up to 4 times annually from JFK-DUS and then JFK-MUC (once LH started the nonstop service to MUC) in the mid to late 80s. My mom worked for LH. That aircraft is definitely an L-1011.
As a current flight attendant at a major Scandinavian airline, it fills my heart to hear about the history of our profession. The senior flight attendants in the video are hilarious xD "I was so innocent, even thought I grew up in Brooklyn". "They were so old, they got their flight hours from WW2, they could be your grandparents" hahaha
Thanks for the amazing video. I was a flight attendant for 20 years. I started in the 80's and still miss it every day. Im right there with the guy who broke down at the end of the video. Best job ever ❤
Wow. Glory days. I'm a regional flight attendant. Started doing it a couple years ago at 62. Layovers in Valdosta and Shreveport are not so glamorous and the wages are very low but it's still fun.
Amazing the contrast between the decades. I miss the old-school FA service and fun attitude back in the 70s and 80s. At least we don't have smoking anymore which is a huge plus. Great video!
As a former flight attendant I totally agree to all the things mentioned in this video! And the most amazing thing is, that it doesn´t matter for what airline or in which country you work as a flight attendant: we all experience the same things, we all are responsible for the safety of our passengers, and we all experience the same way of crew life, no matter in what language or uniform. To be a flight attendant is not a job. It is a lifestyle. When I stepped off the airplane from my very last flight after 33 years, I also got pretty emotional with one crying and one laughing eye. Crying because of leaving this extraordinary lifestyle, laughing because of looking forward to my well earned retirement (and no more ever-complaining ˋKarens´ 😂)
As a flight attendant for 33 years , I have become a slam clicker. Had my fun in the part 90s. Based in NRT, go to HKG and party all night and buy cheap suits and shoes. Living the best life!!😊
I am not a flight attendant yet, but my very favorite type of plane right now is the airbus a380. When I first became into aviation, my favorite was the Concorde, which was taken out of service permanently in 2003.
My mother was cabin crew with British Airways in the late 80's to early 90's, usually was scheduled for the Lonson-New York flight (always 747's), those days the airline would provide staff holidays at massive discounts. Her best friend was senior cabin crew for Concorde so she managed fly on Concorde. These days she hates flying to holidays in Europe (not from fear, but lack of comfort, space and the stress).
I remember as a kid in the 70s and 80s flipping up my arm rest and pressing my ear to the holes to watch the movie when my parents didn't want to pay for the headphones.
My favorite position was lower galley purser with Tristar by Lockheed..you work alone and you need to super organised with time/planning and phsically strong to load/unload 10+ foodcarts from two lifts
This was so fun. My dad and mum met while working for United. Dad flew the DC10 and mum was a stewardess. They met in Newark moved to Denver, and then to the Bay Area where we lived in a large, rural neighborhood of United and American flight crews. I had a charmed upbringing and so much of that was due to United Airlines.
I was a ground agent and I just dreamt about checking passengers in but the computer was really slow and I was panicking to get the flight out on time! I’d love to hang out with the 70s gal - she seems really fun!
The video left our the 'Today' part where Flight Attendants are living in their cars and driving Uber between flights. I love flying I hate going through the abusive stress inducing (for no reason) TSA, the way airlines ignore, mistreat customers, and their employees.
The only way to experience this kind of luxury "in the air" is the Pan Am Experience in LA. I look forward to doing it one of these days when they reopen. Loved hearing their stories!
It’s at the discretion of the individual charter operator whether or not to allow it, but unlike scheduled flights, I highly doubt that it’s the law there or anywhere else
Thank you for sharing our industry. Many of us Stewardess & Eary Stewards but more modern day term of Flights Attendants know what we like. Yes, for me, the recently retired 747-400s were the best!😊 Also, the photo of the Pan Am L1011 is the at timing 1:58. That is the Lockheed Tristar not a DC-10 Mcdonald Douglas Aircraft.😊
😂 Hahaha!! Yes, all of us Flight Attendants have so great memories of our lives seeing the world. For me, Former Purser Flight Attendant from United Airlines here in Chicago, the cities that I saw from history books I wanted to go to. And I did!! I can't say I had any real feelings about Nixon one way or the other, but now I do. That was a truly fine moment for any gentleman to be remembered for.
Back in the mid 80s I was 19 and tried out to be a Stewardess with TWA. I weighted 125lbs at 64" and was turned down. They said to loose weight and come back🤣
that's still a rule, it's because you need to be fit to be a flight attendant for most airlines, however also they want light attendants too to have more passengers as the paint is so heavy, there need to be a certain weight for all crew to level it out with the passengers and luggage. in emirates airlines, if you gain weight you get grounded
At 6:54, the amount of legroom is staggering! I am still amazed that I can get on an aluminum tube, and get to another part of the country cheap and safe. Yes, it is crowded, but dang, it is accessible to most. I just want to be invisible to the cabin crew.
My heart goes out to the women subjected to weight checks and threatened with losing their jobs if they were over 119 lbs even after giving birth. Glad times changed in that regard. But, I loved hearing the stories from these folks and it’s cool to see how much they love their profession and how it enriched their lives.

your DC-10 was actually an L1011, you can tell by the tail mounted engine, the L1011 slopes down to it's exhaust and the DC-10 is just one straight "nacelle" from front to back. DC-10 was built by McDonell Douglas and L1011 was built by Lockheed. sorry to throw some research at you after the fact.
I'm fairly certain I was on a flight with the 90's flight attendant. I had just come back from Sydney and had a connection through LAX and she worked the next flight out of LAX. I had flown Business so it was up front in first on the domestic legs. I think they were doing some sort of heritage thing where they were allowed to wear their uniforms from previous airlines or eras when they worked and I especially remember she had on her Pan Am uniform and was very pleased it still fit ...she was delightful
Why isn't Carlos a flight attendant anymore? He enjoyed his five years. If he was laid off in 2002, that it sounds like, things did recover and the airlines have been hiring on and off since. I remember the old headsets for the movies and music channels. They weren't electrical. Just plastic tubes that carried the sound from the armrest to your ears. I eventually went on to a successful I.T. career. No hard feelings. Their loss.
Are they commenting about a DC10 or L1011 as shown in the photo? Wasn't the L1011 the one with the elevators to the galleys? Though the L1011 was vastly superior to the DC10 (starting with that it did not crash). Anyway, it's a bit confusing.

I saw that as well. I flew on my firmer airline's DC-10 from here in Chicago.😊

I am from United Airlines here in Chicago.

What a fun interesting segment. Thank you for your service flight attendants makes flying truly special as opposed to taking a bus or train or car.
Glad I was around, as a passenger, to experience the luxury, superb service and great vibes with air travels. In comparison, today is a nightmare.
It really is a a nightmare today. Add to that , my body has aged as well. I rarely fly these days.
But why? What changed so dramatically.?

The stuff I saw in lavatories insane. Flight attendant 90’s.
1:56 that’s an L1011 not a DC 10, you know the AvGeeks are gonna freak 😂out
I had to stop the video to be angry.
I agree 100%, flying is in your DNA. I’ve been flying for 10yrs now and can not think of doing anything else
This is an awesome series
Too bad they mixed the DC-10 and the Tristar, but this is a great video.
That’s an L-1011 not DC-10 in the first segment ;)
