Good video James and great customer service 👍 any discount codes for arti diag 600s 👍
Yes, during a service, Mercedes main dealers put in about a litre under the sump capacity to allow for oil expansion when hot. However, they charge you oil for the FULL sump capacity. Who would have thought......
Our Sprinters were always showing overfilled after going for a service and they would have to send someone out to let a bit of oil out, Maybe they have got wise to this and like you say just under fill it so they dont get called out for it
Yes you never ever fill a vehicle to it's full capacity, usually 1/2 to 2/3rds of the dip stick but sadly some dealers charge for the full capacity as listed on the spec of the vehicle as there may not be a way for the techs to write down and or communicate to how much oil they've put it, that's generally why
There’s a reason why garages are rich & we; the consumers, are poor 😂🤣
When our cars are under warranty and being dealer serviced, I always buy a 5 litre can of the correct oil and leave it in the car for them to use for the oil change. Saves me about £40/£50 per service.
You are credit to the car industry
Fantastic work
Many thanks
I think it’s same engine as sprinter , they try to regen dpf frequently and end up with sump filling up with diesel so that warning comes on a lot . Gets so high that engines sometimes runaway and blow up
My sprinter gave the exact same oil message, i had to reduce oil after doing my own service. Im 100% you have sorted it.
Cheers
On newer models, there are no engine oil dipstick. It only has an electronic oil level readout which I'm not so sure is a good thng
I had a VW Derby back in the day with roofrack jumped out for roadside stop in high wind heard this magical flute music went up and down the road to find it , definitely coming from the car turned out 5 rungs on the rack with a drain hole in each rung all differently spaced , add wind to blow a beautiful pentatonic scale . . . . By the time I sussed it I was drenched from the rain.
I'd definitely buy a vehicle from you. I wish more dealers were as decent as you. Keep up the great work.
I love the way you run your business and I would buy a car from you with complete confidence. I bought a 23k Toyota Corolla from local main dealer & a simple problem that could have been fixed shortly after I bought the car in February is still dragging on 9 months later. Needless to say I will never buy another car from this franchise! Keep up the good work 👍🏻.
I appreciate that!
this will be where one of the vacuum oil extractors will come in handy!
You know what I just love your videos, as and when I need another car I will buying from you as you obviously love your cars and I guess the selling is just like a hobby where you exuberantly excel. Keep it up and I can’t wait till the next one!
Hello James, you are just so honest and good to your customers - wonderful!! Intersesting video. Best wishes from Lincolnshire
Thank you kindly!
100% will have sorted it James. Had exactly the same issue with our 59 plate Vito, filled to max when serviced and pinged the light 20 miles down the road. Ran it for years after just on 3/4 on the dipstick 👍🏼
Thanks buddy
As always fantastic customer service, you always do your best
I appreciate that

Outstanding service James it’s a pity you are that far away from where I live. I would deal with you every day you are a gentleman, keep up the good work James ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Many thanks
Excellent video and content James. I live in Worcestershire but wouldn't hesitate travelling down to you in Devon to buy a used car if ever I need one.🙂👍

23rd buddy and many thanks!
It happened to me with my e class told me to reduce the oil but after it went off and when the Aa came out told me it happened to there van all the time take it to be low max a lot it goes off as well as you go up and down hills 👍👍👍😊
Cheers
Anything can have issues, it's how you deal with them that matters, well done
James this shows what a great guy you are I have known plenty of car dealers over the years just con men but you are in a different class
Phil in stoke. 😂
Much appreciated
Intuitively the oil level should go down when driving since some of the oil will be elsewhere around the engine. I'm no Merc expert but it might be worth checking for diesel fuel getting into the sump. Don't be put off selling vans/pickups. Bit surprised getting a convertible in the middle of Winter - yours is a bit late for a Prince engine?
Hi James thanks for the interesting video - I have a Vito 8 seater as a family 'car', but ours is the newer model, 2015 W447, with the 2.2 engine. I really want to monitor thr DPF and also ro have the ability to force a regen during a long journey (rather than it automatically starting to regen only when I arrive home!) I have tried cheap OBD devices, but Merc seem to have made the Vitos highly specialised to thwart aftermarket devices. My question, does the Topdon scannerwork on this vehicle? And which model of Topdon scanner wouid you recommend for a DIYer to monitor DPFs and to be able to force a regen. Many Thanks
Great customer service goes a long way!
That Mini Roadster is nice spec, JCW kit, I reckon you’ll offload that easy
I thought it might be
1000% customer service if only all dealers were like James.
When i bought my skoda fabia 3 potter from a dealer in lisbon i just got on the motorway and the oil light came on.
Got to a service station, checked for leaks and low oil.all ok with no horrible noises so carried on home.
Found plug on oil swtch was full of oil so fitted a new oil pressure switch and fault went away .
Nice fix
How do I use the code for the Topdon starter pack? I don’t know where to enter it 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Great video from a great guy. 👍👍👍👍happy new year.
Same to you!
Keep up the good work James
Well done James. Top customer service that

I may be returning to the uk next year I trust you

Your a Star . Customer service as it should be ....🚙
Many thanks
Excellent work.
Many thanks!
Used to happen on my 2020 Vito
Mercedes said it was because it didn’t regen dpf properly it dumps some fuel into engine oil if I remember correctly
That can happen too but this was directly after the service and its not smoking like it would with that
Delivered a 17 plate astra the other day, I changed lanes a bit quicker, I think, next thing a big red star came up and an alarm, scared me to death, apparently it's got a collision warning system on those.
Lol
I had the same issue with a Volvo V40 after having it serviced, but I was 100+ miles from home and the red engine light came on, rather than the oil light. I couldn't get hold of the garage that did the service, so ended up going to a nearby Volvo specialist who diagnosed the overfill and drained some off for me. Also had it with a Volvo C30, but the light came on a few miles from the garage that serviced it, so back to them for it to be sorted. Going the other way, I have had two cars that were returned after a service with not enough oil. One of them, a Focus, hadn't even had any oil put back in after they drained it. I could tell the second I started the car up, so how the garage hadn't noticed I do not know. Also, twice I have had garages not tighten up the oil filter properly after changing the oil, leaving the car dripping oil.
Same, on a v60. Dealer always filled 3/4 up the electric dip afterwards and problem didn't come back.
Cheers for the feeback and comment, reassuring Im prob right
One of my service customers just kept adding oil to his skoda to try and clear the oil change due message, I drained 3 gallons out, supprised it didn't hydro lock up,
What is the black mark in middle of the door on focus with door repair??
Yeah, I think that was a wet leaf
great video love your honesty
Cheers
when we had our works vans serviced this happened every time. oil pumped out, to much put in!
ah cheers
This used to happen all the time at work when our vans were serviced. Everytime we had to get a litre or so drained off!
Oh cheers
Well done James u a top man 🚗🚗🚗🚗
Top man chops, great video. Cheers
Much appreciated
I have always said, you're a decent man
I had a 15 plate sprinter, it came up on dash to add 1 litre of oil so I did, 1 exhact litre from a 1 litre pot and it then said oil level to high so I just put up with it until it used a bit of oil and the message went off
lol

They will for sure
Depressing weekend bud worrying about maybe a blown engine, I've mentioned it before but maybe include brakedown cover, as least it could have been brought back, telling them to continue was risky, my mate had a aux belt go on his jimney and he drove home, massively overheated, can't remember who it was, jimbo rockford I think he was called.
Lol! Can't think who that was
@@ChopsGarage neither can I bud.
My friend's dad is a mechanic. He is the third generation to run his garage. He looked after our family cars for as long as I can remember, really knew his stuff. When my friend got to 17 his dad bought him a cracking Golf, it had the 'ultra reliable' 1.9 pd engine in it. Anyway, turned out to be an utter lemon. I know he will have been over that car with a fine tooth comb before buying it and then gone to town on it when he got it back to his garage. You can do all your due diligence but sometimes it is just pot luck. Anyone that thinks you can account for every single eventuality during prep I can only assume has balls made of crystal.
Well said
Could be diesel dilution mate, 2 different things, oil level warning or oil pressure, check oil for diesel bud, don't just drain a bit out, check for diesel dilution.
That's a fair shout, although I got caught out with the oil level doing a service on my sprinter for the first time, reduced the oil slightly, and had no issues, message gone.

Another good video James 🚘🚙🚗⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
When given time everything that can go wrong will go wrong
I had same problem wit Vito just take 1lr out and it will be fine
I enter all your raffles and I would defo enter again if Mini Cooper went up in next one!
Ok noted cheers
👍👍
Imagine the Vito person had bought that privately? His call would be met by a very rude word! My NOT guy also check the oil and goes mad if it is over filled. Time Mercs sorted this out! Your patience is ledgendary.
Cheers!
You didn't really have to offer a warranty on that van bud, an old commercial sold to a business isn't covered buy the 2015 consumer act, I know you'll sort anything out tho bud, but might be handy if there's minor complaints in the future, I don't think the act covers lunch, gifts, firebird demos tho.
Lol, good point though forgot that
@@ChopsGarage slipping mate, I've out legaled you!
James I am a member on lots of different car groups, Mercedes, jaguar and Range rovers amongst others, most days I see people buying cars and driving home a engine light might come on, only amber all the replies say take the car back for a refund or they might have a problem and the garage says bring it back we will sort it out again lots of people saying no get your money back,
If you check comments you will see many have had to take oil out after service
why or why dont meecdes make the fill line a bit lower to avoid this or is it just another main dealer scam
Lol! "Another dealer scam" brilliant. 5 seconds online would confirm exactly what I have said here, as do the comments from owners.
@@ChopsGarage think you have misundersood my comment,i wasnt having a go at you,i was talking about mercedses main dealers.lol
I’m afraid that you might not have heard the last of that Vito. It may be leaking excess fuel into the cylinders, probably when the engine is stopped of when it tries to regenerate the DPF, with fuel flushing the cylinder walls and leaking past the rings and filling the sump over not too many miles.
Just maybe. Better cross your fingers.
I think with the oil level over the top of the stick directly after the service and no issues prior during many drives it going to be ok
James I don't think you could do much more to improve customer satisfaction.
Well done 😊
Thanks 👍
I’d 100% Chuck in the raffle for the mini! Don’t think I’d be allowed to buy one but if I won one… 🤣
Just like the land rover 2.0 ingenium engine
If its the 2.1 engine. Too much oil can also make light come on particularly on a long run. Oh just watched further on and it seems you discovered this already lol
lol cheers
@@ChopsGarage plus points is those vans are on the sprinter drive train which means they are good for 250k minimum without having any issues.
Had exactly the same James with an 04 C Class Merc years ago, serviced before I’d picked it up. Drove about 25 miles and oil light on dash (no dipstick only digital read out in dash)……sucked about 1/4 litre of oil out max and sorted issue.
Bet you pound to a pinch of shit it’s that mate, 🤞🏻 anyway.
I’ve done the same on a Vito that I serviced for a customer, put it to max later that day I had a phone and it worried me to death😂 easily done if you don’t know!
Cheers for feedback , reassuring
Mate, ur a better dealer than I was, buyer's are liars. Be careful, people will take advantage of u .
merc vito 9 litre of engine oil with filter only
Vito's are no where near the quality of the Sprinters. They've always been a bit avoidable among people I know.
Do they no use the same engines?
Top man .
🤙
Has that mini not got the B series engine with it being a 14, thats the year they changed, i have a 2022 cooper s with the b series and its so much better ,
Oh might be
should be, and yes mines had an lumpy idle from brand new, and dont run it on E10 they drink it, v power only@@ChopsGarage
Every time you start a Mercedes van an engine light comes on! Also like driving a tractor! Iveco so much better!
I own a Hyundai i10,who own 51% of Kia,things such as tyres, brakes, clutch are down to you to pay for, doesn't get covered in the warranty, anybody that reads that, knows that,if they offered to do that, it's a good thing
sorry chops garage warranty wise is not a good warranty so read this people not worth the paper its written on even with the all the spin from car people
No car person needs to give it spin, they pay for them not customer. And they have approved every one of my claims
Dropping the price 500 because of a little paint issue mad ,its a used car service it clean get the asking price mate
Ok we will give that a go
God James, yes fix it for them but tone down your genorous (ness) tbh I bet it's diesel dilution so it could be costing you a dpf (trying to re gen all the time) or injectors, I'd get to the bottom of it cause if oil gets too thin it'll blow.
Just over filled thats all.
@@ChopsGaragereally hope so bud, if level goes up again get it transported back before the oil gets dangerously thin, I hope you looked at the oil drained out, you might have smelt diesel in it, I'd have checked the dpf to see how full it was, if your scanner supports that, if it's full van could be injecting extra diesel to try to re gen it, tbh I wouldn't bother with vans, they've all had some hammer and all your customers are small traders who want a bargain, last one I had needed loads of work and when I'd done I actually made 20 quid profit, being on the hook bud for 3 (6) mths is no joke on no margin, troublesome diesel and a van thats flying up and down the motorway on your watch, and with a guy who back St away, nightmare, that self warranty thing seems good, I've finally got rid of my 19 plate c3, took 4100 for it, so blew on that, had no interest at all.
@@roystonvehicles9129💀
The mini would be a good raffle car for a hairdresser…
Just put a low mileage engine in my wives 2014 cooper S roadster. Got the replacement N18 engine from Charles Trent with only 40000 miles on it. It was 2600 pound not bad. Why did I have to do this, the N18 engine blew its head gasket. Two causes for this the first being the plastic header return spout split and all the coolant blew out. The second was the secondary water pump which split and all the coolant blew out again. Now the secondary water pump is made out of plastic and sits smack bang next door to the turbo which it cools with coolant for the engine. Real dumb place to put the secondary water pump. Anyway as a precaution change this secondary water pump they are cheap a lot cheaper than an engine. Also replace the header tank. By 60000 both of these have had it.
Bad isn't it
James! - nawty boy! Isn't the national speed limit for a panel van 50mph, not 60? :-)
No not this size
@@ChopsGarage I think it's basically your panel vans (transit traffic vivaro) that are 50. Car derived models, 60.
