Some good information. When I was there a travelled almost exclusively on trains. It is a great and affordable way to get around Portugal. One tip I would give is to NEVER travel on a Friday. Lots of people are leaving the big cities to go home to away for the weekend and the trains as packed!!!
Good point there!! Fridays from 5pm onwards can be very busy because of people going back home 😊 it happens a lot here in Coimbra, as students go home to see their parents. But still, usually tickets don't sell out!
Thanks for all the great information about the trains and the website for tickets. Good post about not travelling on a Friday, we encountered that in Italy as well, packed on Fridays.
Great, I am happy you're planning to come here ☺️ yes that train is such a beautiful experience, you should try it! Hope to see you in my country, in the future. All the best!
That's great to know :) check my other videos maybe they will help you plan your holidays here! And if you ever need a tour guide feel free to consider my services! All the best and enjoy Portugal!
Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks about your fantastic country of Portugal. Very useful I fo. I am looking forward to visiting this Summer. Cheers Howard
Great to know you're coming here 👍 I hope my other videos also inspire you for your trip! If you happen to be around Coimbra and want a guided tour don't hesitate on asking! All the best!
Train travel is such a cool way to get around. Good to know it can be cheaper to buy tickets in advance - we recently learned the hard way that that's also the case in the US.
I am glad the info I shared helped 😊 you are welcome here anytime! Apart from strikes (watch for that info before you travel by train in Portugal as it is mandatory to communicate that in advance), everything functions very well!!
That's great to know 😊 I'll be here! Let me know if you have any questions. You can also follow my tips on Instagram! All the best and welcome to Portugal!
Iam traveling this aummer from Germany via Austria, Italy, The Netherlands, France and Spain to Portugal with an Interrail pass. I think the Lisbon - Madrid night train doesn't exist anymore because I can't find it in the Timetable. The only train to Madrid I could find is the Train via Vigo and Pontevedra.
Yes it seems it has been suspended for a while. When I did this video it was functioning though :) I suggest for people to always check updates on the website www.cp.pt! Thanks and have a nice trip!!!
Will be taking a train from Lisbon to Lagos on a Sunday Feb 2025. Can I buy a ticket at the Oriente station, as I don't know what time I can get from airport to the station. Thank you.
There are ticket offices at the train stations but it's not guaranteed that there will be seats if you don't book in advance. Contact www.cp.pt for those matters. Have a nice trip!
Interessing video about train travel in Portugal. Like you said in the video, there's no great difference between 1st and 2nd class when you travel by train. Only in Intercidades you have more space between sit places.
Obrigada for this video Sara. I'm planning my first trip to Portugal. I'm arriving in Lisbon and wanted to go to the Algarve for 4 days. Wanted to start in Lagos and go all the way to Vila Real de Santo Antonio. Is this doable by using the train? How reliable are the trains in Portugal? I heard that in some small towns the trains can be up to 2 hrs late.
That's great to know :) I have never used the trains in the Algarve, so I can't tell. But they work in Central Portugal so I think they should work there too! Have a great time in Portugal!
Hi! Can you please help me understand the seat map? I want to have a window seat moving in the same direction as the train. I am having a hard time understand which seats are moving in the direction of the train or not. Thanks in advance for your help!
Hello! Thanks for watching and I am glad my videos are helping you plan your holidays here :) please for those details contact the train company www.cp.pt - you will have to tell them departure and arrival stations (the seats have to be headed to the south or north depending where you are going). Safe travels!
Hi, thank you for the video! I'm going to Lisbon in September and want to stop by Lagos for one night - September 3-4, I'm confused with the different trains from Lisboa? What are the differences? Thank you for your help!!
Great, I am glad you enjoyed the video :) I hope the others also help you planning a good time here! There are trains from Lisboa Oriente to Lagos. Check on the official train website www.cp.pt/
Well I have charged my phone when in trains. About wifi, I have in on my phone contract but usually public transportation has wifi available. Buses have 😊
Coming to Portugal in Sept and I am trying to find out so much, especially how to get around. Flying into Lisbon, we have decided to take the train to and from Porto. What is the easiest way to get from the Airport in Lisbon to the train station?
There's a metro connection between the Airport and Oriente Station. I am glad my videos are helping 😊 stay in touch and if you need a guide in Central Portugal... here I am ready to welcome you! All the best!
Just Google it: 'there is no direct train from France to Portugal. However, there are services departing from Cité and arriving at Santa Apolónia via Paris Montparnasse 1 Et 2 and Hendaye. The journey, including transfers, takes approximately 20h 52m.' Good trip and hope to see you here soon! Cheers!

Thank you Sara! All good tips that will come in handy when we visit. I looked up the historical Duoro Valley train and it seems really cool!

Hello,
Can you please explain to us the group discounts?
Please see details at www.cp.pt and if you have any doubts contact them directly, as details may change from time to time
Can you travel with your dog on the train and if so do they charge?
Hello! You can find information about that here: www.cp.pt/passageiros/en/how-to-travel/Useful-information/travelling-with-pets
Do you have to print or validate your ticket if you buy them online on their website?
They should be able to answer that through their website. Check the link I left.
