1) reading all my books on my tbr. 2) get more books from library 3) if I buy a new book, i have to have read 5 books and figure will I keep this book or not 4) get one bookshelf and only have 1 bookshelf till later 5) finish/catch up on series 6) get my license so maybe I could go to some book signing Before the year is over I will unhaul books that my libaray have and I can just check it out myself
I do the same thing too. I make myself first read the book from the library and only purchase the books I love and know I'll want to reread. I have to say the feeling you have when a book comes in that you have been waiting a long time for is amazing.
I actually feel like it's hard to tell someone's thoughts by a rating because people have such different rating scales and so much goes into how people rate books. So yeah, I totally agree with you about not giving a rating, they're important to me personally but I'm glad you're happy with removing them from your reviews!
Yes! Many people keep filling their shelves with books they never get to. I stopped buying books a few years ago. I'm a librarian and can get any book I want so buying books seems wasteful. I commend your goals and wish you the very best. You'll find that once you start reading the books on your shelves that you'll wonder what took you so long. I'm finding that I don't even want to read the books on my shelves anymore. It's been so long that my interests have changed. I'm loving the clean and uncluttered space on the shelves .
I have similar goals too - trying to tackle my existing physical TBR, read more variety, and set my Goodreads goals to a number small enough that I don't feel like my stats will take a hit if I decide to pick up a big book! I hope you enjoy your 2020 reading year with your updated goals!
I am that type of person who enjoys putting that challenge on myself for my good reads goal. I don’t find myself to be upset or feel pressured to hit that goal! I just like the challenge and sense of accomplishment of trying to read more than the previous year. I am not bashing on those who doesn’t feel this way and likes the 1 book goal. I just think it’s interesting how every one has different goals on the same / similar things!
We have pretty similar goals! I'm also planning to: -Skip the Goodreads Challenge all together. -Catch up on my TBR and not buy any books unless I plan to read them in the near immediate future. -No longer rate the books I rate as well. I might only do it experimentally for 6 months. Idk. -And read less YA. Nice!
My library has books available in physical and e-copy for express checkout, which means there's no waitlist; this is usually the case for extremely popular books and new releases. I suggest checking it out to scratch that new-release itch :))
Yes to your goal to read your physical TBR. I have this same goal and for many of the same reasons. I was too focused on New Releases and now I have so many unread books on my shelf!
I definitely want to read more classics for 2020. I think it's interesting that you have chosen to set a goal of one book instead of 60+ to intensity and drive to read again. I'll definitely be following your journey this year. The funny this is .... I think I will set a goal to read 40-50 books for 2020.
I moved to ebooks and digital audios a few years ago and my read count bumped up by at least 50 a year. Unfortunately that also resulted in me reading few hard copy books including my tbr shelf so my goal this year is to read my hard copies (I haven’t been to a library in months, shocking to my younger self who used to practically live there). My church is doing a 21 day fast for the new year and I am thinking of giving up ebooks for that time (kind of like a lent vs a traditional fast, although we don’t observe lent) hoping to get the joy of reading hard copies back. Personally I adore Divergent but gave up on the others, I choose to think of it as a stand-alone.
I usually set my goodreads goal to 12 because I know that I can read at least 1 book a month. I usually end up reading a lot more than that but I don’t feel the pressure to read more.
I find that even with the really long waitlists at the library I still get everything at once, so you don't even need to skip on the stress part of too many books to read either.
I was really disappointed by a lot of my reads this year. So one of my goals is to strictly read books that I’m interested in. I was trying to read hypes books and see if they were worth my time and ended up being disappointed every time. So, definitely reading more books that are my interest.
Also you can check Goodwill and library sales for popular books. I lucked up in the summer and found a hardback of Evelyn Hugo for $1 at the library. Also paperbacks of Dark Matter, A Little Life for under a dollar at Goodwill. This way if you dnf/unhaul them it's less painful. Also not a regular viewer of your channel and yet enjoyed this video and format very much.
So many great goals! New releases are such a double-edged sword. On one hand I want to support my favorite authors and preorder. But at the same time there were way too many overly hyped books this year that I found were just okay or good but would never reread. So I feel like I need to wait for a more accurate rating before succumbing to the hype and buying new releases. On that note, seeing my favorite reviewers give 4 or 5 stars helps me so much prioritize my reading. I don't read reviews (fear of being swayed) but like you said a rating is quick way to judge how likely I would enjoy it. But yeah, some books are just difficult to rate so I totally understand.
You look so pretty! And that sweater looks super cozy 😍 I'm excited for your reading goals for next year ^-^ I actually want to raise my goodreads goals to 100 books because I've read about 75 books in 7 months, so I might aswell try for 100 in a year. Good luck with yours.
I went and picked up two huge boxes from my parents house full of books I never read that I left when I moved out. I'm only allowing myself to buy books I feel I MUST read this year and instead just shop my stash.
it's so interesting to hear you're planning not to rate books anymore. it's not something I never really thought about doing, because it felt like a good way to measure how strongly I felt about the book, but what you said is so true - ratings can be so inconsistent over years, and when comparing to how other people have rated it. this is something that i'm now going to consider! moving away from YA is also something i'm going to be doing! it has been so enjoyable, but i do also feel constrained, and it is starting to all feel very similar in a way?? we have such similar thoughts/goals!! good luck with these my friend!
My plan of attack is bizarrely inspired by my job🙃. I am going to set up a P1, P2, and P3. Priority 1 books are series I am actively reading and enjoying, they are my focus. P2 are books that I generally don’t read, may be 1-2 SciFi, a nonfiction, a genre fiction. P2 also includes readathons I join. P3 will be exploration, this will mainly be the 1 book in a series because I am a fantasy zealot and it seems everyone and their mother who writes fantasy is writing a million books and I just can’t keep up. My tentative policy is that P2 books are actually going to get set because they are more goal orientated and P1 and P3 are more flexible. Let’s see if this works🤷🏾♀️
If you haven't checked out A Book Olive I highly recommend her channel. She has made me love nonfiction. I love your goals and am looking forward to seeing your picks next year!
I won't set a Goodreads goal in 2020. I recommend Danielle Steel for general fiction. 💖 I recommend Paulo Coelho for literary fiction. 📙😄 I wanna read Girl Mans Up. I only saw 1 copy of it in a bookstore here in the Philippines and I guess someone already bought it.
Such great goals but just the thought of not rating books gives me anxiety even though it makes total sense. I cannot wait to read Darius the Great is Not Okay. 💜
Great video! Your goals sound really good. I personally like rating books, but it's so personal. I want to read 52 books next year and also read more non-fiction. As for the books you unhauled: I didn't really enjoy Furyborn either. I didn't connect with the characters and found the story a bit pointless tbh. I also wasn't a huge fan of Queen of the Tearling and Release. They were both enjoyable but not great, so I totally get why you would get rid of them
Not rating the books and just review them without rating is kinda great, tbh! I read some books this year that I didn't rate because I didn't know how? I loved them but it didn't make sense to rate them the same way i rate my other books so i just didn't
1) reading all my books on my tbr. 2) get more books from library
3) if I buy a new book, i have to have read 5 books and figure will I keep this book or not
4) get one bookshelf and only have 1 bookshelf till later
5) finish/catch up on series
6) get my license so maybe I could go to some book signing
Before the year is over I will unhaul books that my libaray have and I can just check it out myself

congrats on changing your reading goal! people are so afraid of doing it but the truth is, we read for fun, no one is forcing anyone to read 💕

Same for me!
Very true! Sometimes the reading goal is really pressuring.
We have pretty similar goals!

I don't know why but the title of this video attracted me. 2020 goals and an unhaul. Best combination. First video I am watching from you.
Yes to your goal to read your physical TBR. I have this same goal and for many of the same reasons. I was too focused on New Releases and now I have so many unread books on my shelf!

I think I'm going to adopt your "Diversify my reading" goal. Thanks for the idea.
i agree with your 5th goal - i have such a problem of buying new books all the time and never finishing my tbr.
If you havent read him yet, Rudy Francisco is AMAZING!!!! He has an older poetry book called Helium and it is my all time favorite in that genre.
I tend to only rate books I either love or hate, 1 star or 5 stars. Not sure why. Maybe because I feel so strongly one way or another.
Definitely going to set my goodreads goals to 1 too! Half of year will be sooo busy for me.
Great goals. Thank you for all your videos!
Yes please do more of these videos!
We have a lot of similar goals for 2020! I read so much in 2019 but I didn’t really love much of what I did get to.
I went and picked up two huge boxes from my parents house full of books I never read that I left when I moved out. I'm only allowing myself to buy books I feel I MUST read this year and instead just shop my stash.
I agree with these goals so much! It inspired me, thank you. 😊 You are so beautiful here too! 😍

I soooooooo much relate to what you have as goals for 2020 reading !!! I’ll do the same! Thank you for enlightening me 😊🙌🏻
Such great goals but just the thought of not rating books gives me anxiety even though it makes total sense. I cannot wait to read Darius the Great is Not Okay. 💜
Great goals! I'm wondering how many on your bookshelf are YA though, so that might conflict with your goal to branch out from YA.
Hi! I think it’s not how much book u read, it’s the quality of books you’ve read. Happy reading to u from uk 🇬🇧
When you plan so much for 2020 not knowing how horrible that year will be
Thanks
Love this
I'm going to make my goal super small like the first year I joined Goodreads.
I really hope you read Release at some point, it is honestly a beautiful book.
On Goodreads, I only give 5-star books a rating, other than that I only write a review about what I thought of the book!
Buy less books, I feel you. It's better to try and read the books you have. My goal is to read more books I own lol.
Great video! Your goals sound really good. I personally like rating books, but it's so personal. I want to read 52 books next year and also read more non-fiction.

Who noticed the Loki book in the background😂

100 books is a great goal. I'm surprised you only chose to read one book.
same with Furyborn! did not feel it at all
I got rid of Furyborn so fast XD
😎👌😉👍👱♀️🤩👑
Hi love you
