After the debacle of the EM-680 (which I have now sold) I’ve now got two of these (one for the office and one for the home) Very happy with them so far. Should do me for a few years.
I'm someone that will never use the oculink port. I am more curious how this compares to the beelink ser7, in terms of reliability, thermals and noise.
for roughly the same price (depending on ram and storage) you can get the aoostar gem 12...which has a dedicated oculink port and 2 nvme slots so you won't have to give one up like this one...i was actually thinking of buying this one until i came across the gem 12.
A video repeatedly stating what a great deal this unit is, without mentioning how much it costs.. Over here, on Amazon, the UM780 XTX is availabel for $600-$800. For that kind of money I would invest in a self-build regular PC.
Actually the Morefine S500+ is better value. It has a 7940hs and has 32gb 6500mhz ram embedded (faster than any SODIMM ram. And has 2 x nvme + 1 x sata support. All that for $450
I just bought um780xtx for emulating ps3/switch :-) maybe you can answer my question. should I be using balance or performance mode for emulating these systems? Do i need performance mode?
Heck, even my 15 year old pc with a xeon still has value, and more USB ports than those. Not that efficient per watt, slow SATA and FSB, but it works! (more RAM than a current mac lol) I'm always looking for a silent mini PC, or will mod it to be silent when I have it. The new trend with the tiny fans for the SSD sucks. Ban tiny fans.. haha The trend should be oversized heatsinks, the best & as big as possible fans and very very silent designs.
Nothing more beautiful than an overkill heatsink. Tiny fans really can be a pain to deal with. it's why I bought a X470 board over a X570. I didnt wanna pay an insane premium just to end up with a tiny fan that WILL die on the chipset. Thankfully that was a short lived thing. I pretty much avoid any MB that has fans on it. give me a nice finned hunk of metal on the VRMs instead of tiny fans.
the beelink SER8 is exactly as you describe. they ditched the tiny fan and replaced it with a single much larger fan and giant heatsink. much better cooling & temps overall.
Is it very noisy? After UM773 i had to displeasure to use which was very loud and thermal throttled on top of poor wifi and bt reception i hope they improved this one.
It's really quiet, even under load. Running almost any game that was published before 2020 will run very nicely and Temps don't ever get above about 65c. Sitting on a small shelf under my desk, I can barely hear it i I concentrate. It will get a little louder if Temps get above 80 but still nothing like the 773 which had no active memory or nvme cooling. BT connectivity is fine from across a room with keyboard and mouse (I run my TV from it) and wifi no complaints. No drops or slowdowns.
most of the time is good temps but loud or quiet and bad temps, most people who say its quet they just dont give enough sustained load or run them in low tdp setting.

i had this since it was first released. made my own DIY oculink external GPU rig and was worth it.
I brought mine last year for emulation games. Loving it so far!!

Ser8 just got announced

Do you prefer this one rather than Beelink SER7 AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS ?
I was wondering the same thing

Yes, thank you very much.

This is awesome❤

UM790 Pro turned me on to sub to miniPC channels like yours.
No one ever talks about build quality, is it made of metal or plastic?
pretty sure metal
Just a little more work on the AI voice.
What?
Now compare with Aoostar GEM10 and correct yourself ...
There is no model name in title or description. I had to invest in extra time to find the name of this model :)

I think you are using to many superlativ. And you are talking without pauses. Otherwise I would have subscribed.
