Hopefully, the so called former model C schools will at least make a dominant African language in the area on which the school is located a language of teaching for those who may be interested
I started understand geography when I was in tertiary not while I was in Junior and high school. This was because I did not understand English at that time untill I improved in versity. I only had to memorize the processes and concept without understanding them. I support this idea greatly it will assist learners like me to understand the content.
We should not think about this emotionally, when a child is born, no matter what language you is spoken at home, whether it's Afrikaans, an Indian language, an ethnic language etc, one parent MUST speak English to the child, and the other parent or grandparents should speak the home language to the child..... If you look at it realistically, we not doing our kids any favor by speaking only the mother tongue, this hinders them in the wide world, whether we like it or not, English is spoken world wide and speaking it fluently helps the child to communicate better should they decide to look for work outside our borders... Even at home, this hinders them, learning English opens doors for them, and widens their world.
