Looks a wee bit less cartoonish and more realistic in the color grading in 4K, with the color desaturated a bit, and deeper blacks, which helps night scenes and space shots look more real. I might splurge for this. Revenge of the Sith is easily my favorite of the prequels.
The color grading was not changed for Revenge of the Sith, HDR content when displayed in SDR on UA-cam appears more green that's why this looks that way. I compared them on the same TV in my house and the color is identical with 4k in HDR. The HDR does make highlights pop and the blacks are better, but Revenge original blu ray is already spectacular.
It's because this video isn't hdr. I've tried to argue about this before but the person who keeps posting these videos doesn't understand. HDR is a color grade inside of a digital container that has to be outputted, not just a button to push, all that does is crush darks and blow out color because whatever video editor was used unnaturally oversaturated the colors. If you want proof, go to any HDR rated video on UA-cam and go into the resolution settings, if your device supports HDR UA-cam will literally say "1080p HDR" and so on. These videos do not.
Well….. «The person » you are referring to, is myself. Also, please be more impartial in your comment. Indeed, you are forgetting a detail. At the time this video could not be in HDR because the option did not even exist on UA-cam. Which explains this difference. Anyway, thank you for your comment.
It seems like the 2019 kinda adds too much of a glow effect. At 13:19, if you look at the lights that form that circular pattern around Anakin, at the transition they become a lot more defined since they have a line pattern in them
Excellent work as usual. There really is a noticeable shift in colour and intensity with this 4k, it’s a bit more subtle on episodes 1 and 2, at least from what I can see.?
Well Jim It's about the same in terms of colorimetry. But in terms of resolution, it's a different story. The trilogy that does it best with a new native 4K and HDR scanning close to Dolby Vision on Disney+ !
My moonization ......The Jaws restoration Blu-ray is one of the most impressive discs I’ve ever bought. That film looks like it was shot yesterday, such a great image, I really can’t imagine how it could be improved?
The last Sw film . So good. I love this film so much. Very emotional . I have the remastered blu ray for the 4k release. The image is fine. Not much diference since the other realeses. Original trilogy has a big upgrate.
The biggest flaw with the new versions is they’re not THX Certified and for some reason, I haven’t seen a Blu Ray with a THX Deep Note trailer since 2012 with Titanic.
The 1st edition Blu-Ray of Star Wars were released back in 2011 when Fox and George Lucas owned them and those have the THX certifications, those are the blurays that look far superior to the rest of the re-released bluray, there wont be much of a difference on the 4K transfers since episode 2 and 3 were shot digitally in 1080p and they used up conversion to give it more detail. I’ve compare all the blurays on my 75” Samsung Q90 and theres just something about the 2011 releases that look much better than the Disney release of these blurays.
I own all the copies as well since im a big fan but in no way the bluray version is better then the 4K one, all the blurays got that blueish tint over the scan and it's terrible, the 4K looks stunning and realistic. No match.
Its is unfortunate that digital technology in 2005 was not able to offer the necessary amount of dynamic range for HDR. The film was shot at 1080p, at 8 bit 4:1:1 color space (Maybe it was 4:2:0) and it sadly is beginning to show. It would be nice if they did a complete breakdown of the elements, use an AI upscale, re-composite them and grade it for HDR. But sadly that would be a colossal task and I don't see Disney doing that anytime soon... or ever
I am grateful with my Samsung 4k tv and disneyplus but somehow i am doubting if the Star Wars movies from 1977-2019 are the same in graphics in 4K bluray and Disneyplus.
Minor improvements here with the prequels since they were shot during the very early days of 2k digital shooting for feature films. I do wonder whether the recent AI image reconstruction techniques could be used at some point to improve the 2K masters of these movies for a later release. There's some amazing stuff being done at the moment, even amateur work, with decent bitrate 480p sources converting to HD or 4K: ua-cam.com/video/XWBiHDchSLA/v-deo.html I'd love to see something like this done to the prequel trilogy in the future, reconstructing them from HD to 4 or even 8K. I'm sure ILM could do a great job if given the time, tech and resources. Whether there is the will to do so at Disney is another matter of course.
Or 3d of the year. Since james Cameron is trying make his five other avatar films 3d without glasses through both the theater and tv so most likely 3d will make a come back being better than ever bc of James Cameron not lie either it's all hundred percent true
Just watched this is 4K on my 4K projector. Was disappointed, yes the 4K version is darker, maybe due to HDR but because of this a lot of shots doesn’t pop. Especially a lot of the lava scenes. Colour doesn’t stand out as much as the standard blu ray. Also a lot of scenes the actors faces weren’t sharp enough and so I thought there was something wrong on my end. I played the standard blu ray and went back to the shots that I was disappointed with and the blu ray version killed it, was much sharper!! I have no idea what they did with the 4K but the standard blu ray was much better. The major upgrade I thought with the 4K is the sound, the sound is better but in terms of picture I’ll stick to blu ray
Dear Nagashima did you turn on the HDR at least ? Also remember that the goal of HDR is that you have a very nuanced contrast difference with different colorimetry. Which sometimes makes the image darker.
4K is not 'supposed' to be brighter than FHD. With FHD/non-HDR there was no way to keep the dark parts dark where they should have been without also darkening the parts that should be highlighted so the whole picture is brighter than it really is
Even though this not a true 4k (as the film was shot in 1080p) its still the only 4k star wars release I will buy as its the only one without special edition changes, DNR or unfaithful color grading. Shame...this is like my fourth favourite star wars.
Depends on your TV and its HDR Your TVs max brightness is a factor plus HDR will make things darker as it makes blacks deeper Deeper Black's more detail

My moonization .....Thanks for your reply. I wonder what 4K versions of Lord of the Rings would look like, if they ever release them?
I am preparing it, also Jaws but we will have to wait because I have a lot of comparison before. Stay tuned !

no way the new one with HDR in 4k looks amazing and it makes the movie not look as old
Completely agree I just watched ep3 on 4K and certain scenes on blu ray. Blu ray so much better

Am I correct in saying the 4K print looks more closer to the version presented in theaters?
the 4K version is made from the original film copy so yes, that will be correct.

This film use 4:4:4 color space, attack of clones i dont remember
@@danielgeometry3801 thank you, you are correct. Revenge of the Sith was 4:4:4, Attack of the Clones was 4:11

Hope you do The Elephant man 4k comparison soon.
Yes just after Star Wars comparison !
Why is 4K, which is supposed to be brighter than FULLHD, darker?

Very nice
Coooool!!!!!
The color loss when it switches to 4k is a turn off for me. Perhaps 4k technology isn’t perfected yet.
Depends on your TV and its HDR
Your TVs max brightness is a factor plus HDR will make things darker as it makes blacks deeper
Deeper Black's more detail
It's not the technology, it's the aesthetic sensibilities and shot by shot choices made by the colorist.
Better in real !
This just looks darker. Not that great
Looks less cartoonish
