    Thanks Splice for sponsoring this video! As mentioned I've been using this tool since the app version CoSo dropped and have already released some tracks I started on it:
    "we'll never have enough time together" - Splice gave me a vibe idea and I played stuff that changed and replaced all the loops fanlink.to/andrewhuang-wellne...
    "Hello My Little Mushroom" - Splice served up the keyboard loop that I did a lot of chops on fanlink.to/AndrewHuang-DustAn...

    As a bass player, coso has been an incredible tool for practicing!
    Improvising bass lines, soloing, locking up to grooves , and overall making the practice process funnier than a metronome!

    i’ve always used splice loops as a way of setting vibe. i’ll dig through stuff until i find a vibe that inspires me and gives me ideas. i’ll put it in ableton, and a lot of times i don’t even keep the original splice loop. it ends up getting replaced, but the song wouldn’t have been made without it. the stacks feature just expands that a little farther and gives you more ideas

      it's interesting when you get the original samples from the stacks. the change in pitch or tempo makes a lot of those original samples SOOOO much different in the feel. i'm enjoying stacks. I;m old and don't see AI as a threat. Even if it's something like UDIO. I'd totally collaborate with UDIO or SUNO tracks, or better yet, make my own covers of my own prompted songs. at least import the stems and make a remis... . I hope Splice puts more energy into stacks and expands the 'similar' sounds, features. Even then, creating a 'stack' can take a while, though. I've spent over an hour on some of my stacks. Perhaps that's okay???????

      @splice @andrew curious if there has been any updates with the content ID problem for melodic / harmonic loops? I’ve seen people make videos about how ‘royalty free’ samples that aren’t mangled enough get people copyright strikes if two producers use the same loop and upload to distributor. Thnx

    I love this format. I’ve found that recreating samples into my own thing often takes a song in a completely different direction to the point it sounds completely different to what inspired it. A really good jumping off point if you don’t know where to go musically.

    Talk about an absolutely amazing tool for writing lyrics as well. I’m not musician, but I love to write lyrics as a hobby, and doing so to a beat that is unique makes that process so freeing. Just vibing with the beat and flow to get out what you’re feeling and thinking. This puts that at your fingertips in an instant and that’s so powerful.

    What's wild is that legally speaking you literally could take everything from the Splice stack as is, make an arrangement, and then release it as your own. AI is already doing this.
    But as Andrew shows, there's so much more knowledge and skill that goes into producing a track than just putting loops together.

I don’t have a ton of free time so I have to get the juices flowing, often a single loop can get me started, but some random stacks like this is great. This makes me think of ToonTrack's song mode from EZDrummer/Superior Drummer, where you can tap in a beat and build an entire song arrangement of drum MIDI loops in seconds. Younger me thought that was kind of a cheap shot, and current me realizes that it's really great to get a musical idea and then work off of it as a creative tool.

    Working with AI definitely has its merit in pretty much every industry. As long as it doesn't get all-consuming, and we preserve the human element, it can exist to help inspire and guide us. I must admit I'm not free of worry when it comes to the topic of AI, and I'm still pretty apprehensive, but it just depends on who is using it and how it is used. Fun video.

    I mean. It's a fun toy. I have a subscription to output that I occasionally use and chop, but all these shortcuts and AI things are robbing musicians or producers or collageists, whatever you want to call them, of the reward of learning how to do all this stuff from scratch.
    It's not instant gratification, but understanding how all these pieces are made is one of the most unique and precious gifts you can give yourself. Chances are you're not gonna make it big so you may as well do something nourishing for your soul instead of fast food. And yeah, you can flip and tweak this stuff into something uniquely expressive of your own sound but I wonder what percentage of people actually take the time?
    It's kinda sad how music has become this predatory pyramid scheme where producers are just hustling their skills to other would be producers

      Hundred percent agree. Although I think in the long run AI will just be used to create more generic music, by people who have little understanding of what they're doing, with the real groundbeaking material being created by the hands and brains of flesh and blood humans. Will this tech ever give us a new Prince, Aphex Twin, Miles Davis, or Stevie Wonder or any of the numerous great artists one can name? I'm gonna say no. There's a reason people are becoming increasingly disengaged from a lot of mainstream product, particularly in music and film. So much of it lacks the spark of real human creativity and spontaniety and I write this as some one, who like most contemporary musicians, writes elctronic music. Too much of this stuff is geared to just reproducing already established genres rather than encouraging innovation or real self expression. With the bottom line of making money fuelling an inherently conservative impulse that drives these gestures, as opposed to trying to speak to people's emotional or even intellectual condition. However, I remain optimistic, believing that the need to create and for people to hear something that actual moves them will win out eventually.

    • @MisterManuva
      @MisterManuva 5 місяців тому +1

      While I mostly agree with what you are saying you also have to consider that before AI became publicly available, there were already plenty of libraries filled with chord progressions that you can just take "as is", process through some preset chain of effects and have a viable final product with no action required other than choosing. Even more so with already existing loops that don't even need to be processed.
      All this tool does is choosing for you. Does it really make that much of a difference?

    • @a_8764
      @a_8764 5 місяців тому +1

      @@MisterManuva No, it doesn't make a significant difference. People just tend to become hysterical when they hear "AI". What this "AI" (marketing buzzword) tool does isn't that different from the Spotify song recommendation algorithm. There's a discussion to be had about combining a few pre-made loops and calling it a song, but that's been going on since at least the 90's when sample CD's became a thing and it hasn't changed.

What happens if you send a signal through an audio cable, and then oscillate the cable with a motor or extreme vibrations? Could you effect the signal in any meaningful way? If you sent a silent signal through a cable and oscillated the cable at the same frequency as a certain note, would it create that note? High thoughts.
