Chevy Chase said he was so angry when John Belushi died he didn't cry for 5 years. Belushi and Chase were rivals, but Belushi's wife, Judy, said there was also a friendship between them.

Even though it was 1982, it felt like the end of the 1970's when he died. 1980-82 still had that 70's residue and Belushi epitomized that era.

Chris Farley was inspired by John Belushi. It is tragic that they both died at the same age.

Farley also died the same way as Bulushi in regard to the same drug(s) when he overdosed.

@@VincentVagabond Belushi technically didn't overdose. He really died of effects of long term drug abuse.

@@lpr5269 if you are referring to “The Stanton Peele Addiction” article, I think it’s correct in some aspects and in different cases. In Belushi’s case he had such a lethal amount of cocaine and heroine in his body that he overdosed. Plain and simple. Cathy Smith allegedly injected him with a dose that could an elephant!

It depresses me that only The Blues Brothers and his being adjacent to Ghostbusters is what keeps his name alive. Animal House is considered offensive now, even though it was designed to be offensive. No one knows Continental Divide, a wonderful film written by Lawrence Kasdan who also wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Empire Strikes Back. No one cares about 1941, a wild chaotic comedy written by the guys who wrote Back to The Future and directed by Spielberg, No one knows about Neighbors, a weird black comedy that was misunderstood at the time and has a great creepy vibe. No one knows his brilliance on SNL, most would think his Samurai character was "racist" even though it was inspired by Toshiro Mifune. People wouldn't appreciate his Joe Cocker impression, which was perfect. No one knows Belushi brought Bill Murray, Brian Doyle Murray, Harold Ramis, Joe Flaherty and Gilda Radner to New York to do the National Lampoon Radio Hour. All the zoomers or millennials know about him, if they know him at all....is that he was a Blues Brother and died young. It's sad and not right.

I know it’s kind of odd to say but when they showed clips of his former friends and costars reactions fresh after hearing the news in ‘82, there’s a genuine sense of humanity there. No faking it for the camera as celebs tend to do. It’s that rare moment when you know it’s real and unfortunately it’s because of shock and sadness. They truly loved the guy. As did we all. RIP John.
