Love the organic chemistry! I remember looking at Kylie Skin when it came out and she said "there's no alcohol in my products" and as a chemist I'm reading the ingredient list reading all of the "-ols" like.... girl. Technically no "drying" alcohols but they're there!

Absolutely love Lactic Acid topped with hylouronic acid and then Alo Vera gel Mixed with the ordinary amino acids then squaline oil . I also throw some vitamin c in their for brightening and antioxidant support. Primrose is fantastic as well, but a bit too much for when I'm more oily. Also The Curel Sensitive moisturizer is fantastic for under eyes and on smile line and neck and body it's inexpensive. But has ceramide and Patrollium and made a huge difference under my eyes. I live in Colorado so it's dry af out here and this combo changed my skin in like 5 minutes not even joking
I avoided moisturizer for a long time, being oily and acne prone, because someone once told me that a moisturizer locks the bad stuff into the skin the same way it locks in the hydration.
@@Xan1120 I don’t know where they learned it, because I’ve never heard that in all of my years, but I can understand how someone would believe it, it sounds like it could make sense & people with severe acne would probably be willing to try anything when all else failed.
I work for Boots and at the core they started with their own labs creating loved lines such as No7. As an employee I see their base brands flying off the shelf as an alternative to higher end. I just used their Vitamin C cream as you were speaking and my ears perked up! I hope you like their products because they put a lot of integrity into their brands and stand behind them. We cannot keep the Glycolic Acid in that range in stock!!!! Love from Scotland. xx
Thank you, thank you, thank you for actually making this video!! I've struggled so much with severely dry skin post-accutane for several years at this point. Now that I understand how all of this works, maybe I can finally make some progress in helping my skin. Again, thank you so much for all you do for this community!
I love to watch your video's! Sounds like we have a few skintype features in common (like the oily skin), and watching you talk about skincare in general taught me so much!!! Thankyou!
My Pacific NW facial skincare routine AND the products I used turned out to be not at all useful in my new desert home! I feel like the HA products were pulling the moisture OUT of my skin... have added more occlusive products as "toppers" to my light HA moisturizer and it seems to be s l o w l y improving my skin. Thank you for all your helpful tips and videos!
Cassandra, could you PRETTY PLEASE make a list of basically all the most popular products and whether they are hydrators, moisturizers, both/hybrids, and occlusives? Something we could save to our phones so when we go shopping we can pull up for reference? That would be AMAZING!!!
You could easily figure that out from reading the ingredients! Knowledge is power, once you know what ingredient does what, it makes it easier to choose the right skincare for you.
Any chance you could do a mature skin routine (for over 65) using The Buffet or something similar? I'm keen to get my mother on it as she isn't using anything much now that she's retired and not able to spend so much on the skin care she used to use 🙌
Dr Dray has a video on mature skin. In the meantime, here are some mature skin channels: MrKongsMom, AnneP makeupandmore, the beauty shaman, Tamara’s Timeless Beauty, Graceful Beauty, Christa Evelyn, wrinkled mess, pretty over fifty, pampered wolf (uk), FightingFifty (UK), about face with mona, aging naturally with jodylynn, life over sixty with sandra, Gothamista, Penn Smith Skincare, Doctor Anne.
Yes! i’ve only recently begun to take a Skintillectual approach to my skin at 61 and would love something directed at what i need and what i’m just wasting money on. The Ordinary is a game changer for those of us with low incomes. It would be fabulous to have input directed at what to stock up on during Deciem’s Slowvember sale. Heck, i could even afford one Hylamide and maybe one NIOD product in addition to a stash of T.O.
This video gave me organic chem traumatic flashbacks, but I super enjoy it! Plus, the passion when discussing the science behind it is just *chef's kiss*
Hi Cassandra 👋 I absolutely love watching your videos! I feel like you're always teaching me something new about my skin and how to take care of it! As well as my daughters skin. Thank you 😊
This was very informative. Most of the questions I had regarding some ingredients in the Deoproce Green Caviar line was answered here. I hope to learn more about skin care ingredients from this channel.
I bought the Juice Beauty one a while back, the dang $65 one 🥴 with the “stem cells” and it just doesn’t do much on my skin, I have normal to dry sensitive skin (it leans more on the dry side) and I somehow feel more dry after using that even though it is a thick cream. Same with the Pacifica one in the purple jar, they just aren’t very emollient, and I’ll wake up with my skin feeling slightly dryer than normal. Oddly enough my skin does really well with Skinfix triple lipid barrier, the pyunkang yul moisture cream, and the kiehls moisturizer. I have seen that those make my skin feel the most bouncy/moisturized.
I was literally thinking this week that I wanted to know the difference between these two and would love if Cassandra did a video on this...and here we are 😅 great video as usual and really helpful 🙌
I keep saving your videos so I can refer back to them and to listen to again and again to learn, lol. You’re adorable and addictive! Love ya and appreciate you.
The video is amazing and the way you explain everything is amazing! Keep up the great work! I have really oily skin and some dry spots at the base of my nose and at my forehead, can you propose or make a video about products that people like me can use for their skin care routine? Many many kisses from sunny Greece! 😘😘
Cassandra this video was very informative, you taught me a lot about hydration which has been a concern of mine for a very long time. Keep your videos coming, your fantastic, smart and bring a lot of important information to us. Thank you :)
Hi, love you and your videos! Just wanted to mention that honey and beeswax aren’t always harmful to bees (though ofc some are sourced badly, so I understand why some people don’t want to use them) but actually most alternative forms of honey and beeswax are usually REALLLYY bad for both the environment and bees themselves!! A lot of bees are usually killed to make room to make some of those alternatives! Which ofc also wrecks all the other nearby plants! They’re also often veryy toxic so after using them, the environment can reallyyy suffer afterwards. Ofc I trust you to do your due diligence and proper research and come to whatever decision feels right to you as many of these issues have no one right answer, but just thought it’d be nice if you could mention those nuances when mentioning topics like this so people watching could do their own research as well on what really is a very, very complicated topic and come to a decision that feels right for them. Environmentalism can be hard and there’s no one right way to do it, but some things are definitely a lot more complicated and less straightforward than others so we should treat them as such instead of just assuming one way is automatically better than another! Oftentimes, doing that is what gets us into trouble in the first place! Just wanted to give you a little info in case you were unaware or wanted to look into it further. Again, love your videos and thank you for the great content!❤️
Agree . There's almost always a way to harvest natural products (and food) in a sustainable, ethical, and environmentally-friendly way. It's usually the larger corporations and big agriculture that like to cut corners, ignoring the implications of unethical harvesting. Thing is that modern veganism/environmentalism became very dogmatic .. pretty much a religion and treats everyone as whole, blaming all even the consumers.
For a couple of years, I was using Cerave hydrating cleanser and it was making my skin worse. I switched to Vanicream cleanser and face moisturizer and immediately improved my skin. I use Cerave night cream at night and is very rich and moisturizes very well. I highly recommend.
BUT, before any hydration or moisturization can be really helpful you need to EXFOLIATE. Especially for us older people, our skin isn't turning over as quickly and this is why we often think our skin is dull and why we feel these products aren't working because they aren't penetrating as well through a dead layer of skin. I'm convinced this is why so many older people think they need a butter like formulation for their skin, always need something richer because they feel nothing is really working, when in fact it is all just sitting on this crust of old skin! I know I have been there. Exfoliate and you will find your products work better and your skin looks better too! Great video! There is a lot of language around skin care and we need to know it so we can help ourselves better.

Hey Cassandra You are just amazing! I have learnt so much from you. I found this from Garnier which is vegan and cruelty free which works well for me and is kinda in my budget. Garnier SkinActive 24H Moisture Cream with Rose Water and Hyaluronic Acid, Face Moisturizer, For Normal to Dry Skin, 1.7 Fl Oz
An oil that my dry sensitive and dehydrated skin loves : Marula oil !! Very thick and soothing without looking too greasy on the skin, very great to set everything up on morning !
I just wanna say that I love your brain and appreciate you transferring this amazing science to our own brains, thank you very much💙! + I have oily skin and I do have those lines you talked about even though I use a moisturizer every day, now I know I should hydrate more, so thanks!
Girl your amazing! You helped me getting into the crazy world of skincare... And my organic chemistry skills! ( Maybe it was a bit late because it was after my test...but I have to say - it helped me out in biochemistry lol 😂. I'm a nutrition student - and I'm super excited And amazes by your videos ).
I'm 30 years old and for most of my life (Up until about 2 years ago) I had no idea that oily skin could also be dehydrated. I have oil skin but it's also very dehydrated and textured. I can't use the cleansers marketed to Oily skin because they dry me out so much even though I have oily skin. Including hydrating products into my routine has completely changed the look and feel of my skin and it's CRAZY how it was really just that simple.
This is so awesome. Thank you!!!! Lots of product ideas to share. I now understand and will be more savvy when using my products. FYI l’ve been using the NIOD HA and love it.
Ever since I start to watch your videos on Facebook you became my favorite person of skincare. I’m from Venezuela but I like to buy things from Walmart, I found a brand called Skin Proud because I want to buy good things but I have a low budget. My skin is sensitive and dry so I try to be very careful on the products I use. For now I’m using the cetaphil gentle cleanser for dry skin and the cerave moisturizing lotion for dry skin, that’s all my skincare but I would like to incorporate more products on my skin just that i don’t know what to use🙇🏻♀️ I love all your videos and the way you explain everything♥️
Interresting fact- even tought I am acne prone, the only moisturizer that my skin tolerated is avene's cold cream with beeswax (which is chonky, as you say). Everything else irritates my atopic dermatitis and makes it come back.
This came at such a good time! It’s only the end of September and I’m already wearing sleeping masks during the day. For some reason my under eyes are just feeling parched AF. Like I’ve had to start using cerave ointment as an “eye cream”
Cassandra could you do a video on recommendations of morning and night routine for millia prone skin. Also could you do a video about shea butter and cocoa butter and which brands are best. Also I'm super curious about raw African unrefined shea butter too. I'd love to learn more
Hey Cassandra! First of all, I want to tell you that I‘ve been watching your videos for two months now and I absolutely love them! Secondly, I wanted to ask how you can actually tell hydrators and moisturizers apart from their ingredients?
How lovely to hear u speak about our UK Boots Cassandra. I'm excited 4 u in USA to b able to get it over their...we need your "Good Molecules" over here please? Lol x I've only just learnt about skincare, from u, teaching me so very much and I'm understanding what and why I'm putting on my face with all these new things u have helped me discover...at age 56 and a fellow Cyster I'm loving how much better my skin is looking and feeling...its also been noticed by a young lady I see regular while shes picking her little on up from school and I'm having a wander with my chihuahua, Bella...she made my day when she said that my skin was glowing and looked fabulous!!! Made my Cyster, wrinkly oldish skin smile! Lol x thank u Cassandra x oh also appreciate that although u r vegan u still give non vegan options. Love Alli x
I saw on Cassandra and other skinfluencers videos, people commenting that in Europe this difference doesn’t exist. Yes it does and since ages! In french it’s crème hydratante et crème émolliente. And we find these types of creams in all brands.
Question: Okay, so can oils transfer nutrients into your skin? I'm tryna figure out if cuticle oil is really as important as ppl say it is. After this video I know that cuticle oil doesn't add water to the skin but every nail tech swears it's a "critical step to keeping nails healthy". But how though? I imagine it could lock in water from when you wash your hands but in my experience most places put it on after the service - at least a few minutes after you've washed and dried hands. So what is it really doing to benefit the cuticles, nails and fingers? Is it delivering nutrients or something else or is it all lies? 😭 I love the nitty-gritty details and science-y stuff, thank you & hope you keep it coming!
yes thats true i think the quality of the hylaroni acid is important..idk if quality is the right word.but i was using the nutrogena hydroboost sunscreen this summer and my skin is still recovering from how try it made it
Recently discovered you and absolutely love your videos. I just turned 50 years young - have hit menopause and my skin Both face and body has become super dry. What skincare routine do you recommend ?
I have always underestimated moisturisers because I use so many layers of skincare but this blew my mind. Just a couple of days of adding a moisturiser made a crazy difference to my skin.
Love your content. Wondering if you’ve done anything on comparing gel moisturizers or water gel creams? I found your information helpful and open my eyes to a couple ingredients I had not known about. Thanks so much
Newbie follower here and wow - I have so much to learn! I'm really enjoying this science of skin... Better late than never but oh well!! Do you have any updates on the siloxanes? I am seeing them a lot more mainly d5 and d6 listed on products and I believe you were worried about those being used in skincare. Thanks!
What are good ways to keep your hands moisturized and hydrated. I am a CNA, so I am constantly washing my hands and using hand sanitizer, As a result, my hands always have eczema and are uncomfortably dry.
I have very oily skin so I use mattifying products, but I never know if I should use them also under my eyes. Like a mattifying sunscreen and a mattifying moisturizer. Would love to see a video for this ❤️🙏
I wonder if you could use cooking grade sunflower oil, like the one was shown here? I heard sunflower oil is rich with vitamin e, but if I'm not mistaken vitamin e should be kept in non transparent containers. We do use a lot of sunflower oil in our everyday cooking so I was wondering if that works too, or should I get one specifically for skincare.
In short, yes you can! There's no difference between the stuff for cooking and the stuff in skincare. The only thing to worry about is ensuring that the sunflower oil you buy is actually 100% sunflower seed oil and doesn't have other fillers or preservatives. There's no different in molecule sizes or specific chemical makeup unless your skincare specifies something like "sunflower seed esters."
@@Kiterpuss actually, there is a difference. Facial oils go through different processes to prevent them from attracting dirt and pollution from the air, which is something oils do on their own - they sort of act like a magnet for dirt and other stuff. Not only that but most face oils also contain other ingredients that help you wash off the oil in the morning without the need of surfactants - although how easy that is might change from brand to brand.
@@eduardaarrais "Facial oils" have a variety of ingredients that all do different things. But pure sunflower seed oil is pure sunflower seed oil; INCI doesn't differentiate different grades or molecule sizes like you find with some ingredients (i.e. zinc vs nano zinc), which is what OP asked.
@@Kiterpuss the OP didn't mention molecules size anywhere in their comment. They asked if cooking grade oils could be used or if an oil meant for skincare was preferable. Ence my reply explaining that these two are indeed different.
Cassandra, PLEASE PLEASE 🙏 PLEASE could you do an updated video in how you layer your skincare?????? I have combination skin, oily as hell in the Tzone. I get so confused with everything. I watch Dr Dray, she always gets out of the shower with face wet and puts on moisturizer. If I did that, what about other products. I'm just now getting into skincare. I have Melasma on my face, since working from home, it's actually getting better. I stopped all rx meds and I just try to learn from you and Dr Dray. I have Over the last 3months bought, Good Molecules, Laroche Posey, I have Olay regenerist moisturizer, the whips one and more and more and more. I need to know how to put all this stuff on correctly night and day. PLEASE HELP ME AND DO A VIDEO!! A VERY DETALIED VIDEO AND TALK SLOW!! LOL. I LOVE YOU ❤
I might check out Dr Dray's melasma videos. Also, I know it can be confusing but Dr Dray isn't recommending people use all the products she demos. She's just showing the best way to apply that particular product. I might also check out Dr Alexis Stephen's video on hyperpigmentation and melasma as she goes over a routine.
I feel so validated! Do you know how hard it's been to find products that work for skin that is extremely oily but also feels super dry and tight under the oil slick? LOL
Thank you for being so informative. I've learned a lot from your videos how to choose properly what product to use on my sensitive skin due to psoriasis. May I also request, if you could do a review regarding Biore UV Aqua Rich spf50+ PA+++?
Thanks Cassandra for all your great tips. I had a question about toners. I saw recently you mentioned to apply toner without the makeup pads to save on product. I always thought toner was also about a second level of makeup removal as much as adding the product. I also saw on the inky list skin routine that they put toning after hydration which again felt strange to me as I feel like I would be removing the first product. Can you help me understand how and when to use toner in this new skincare world! 😊
In the old days, alcohol based toners were used to cleanse skin after washing because of the soap quality. That's not the case today. Toners today are used for hydration or treatment. One esty I follow, Go See Christy, has a whole video devoted to how to apply in your routine. Most suggest using hydrating toners after washing the face and then applying products over. Some use cotton pads, some pat it onto the skin and some place the toner in spray bottles and use it that way (you wouldn't do that with an active toner like glycolic or bha). Any decent brand/product should instruct how to use the product.

I've seen this video 2 times. I want to watch it 100 more times. The information here is gold. Wow! So much to in I. Skin care world. I'm hungry for more. This is a big passion of mine. Love you Cassandra
Have you done a video on ingredients safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding? I have oily/dehydrated acne prone skin

@@db-gb5xi thank you, I will look through for which talks about during nursing💗

Wow… where are people learning these things and why are telling it to people?? I’m so sorry 😞
@@Xan1120 I don’t know where they learned it, because I’ve never heard that in all of my years, but I can understand how someone would believe it, it sounds like it could make sense & people with severe acne would probably be willing to try anything when all else failed.
@@Xan1120 thanks😩 but now that i integrated it into my routine, it changed by skin forever✨
So hydration first and moisture to lock it all in?
Thankyou!
I like the way you explain chemistry. I love your content & your energy. Thank you for explaining the proper way of using skincare for my dry skin 😊
Very informative! I love knowing the difference between a hydrator and a moisturizer - and all thanks to you, I appreciate your content :)
Best 13 minutes I've ever spent in my life I've learned so much tysm
Hi Cassandra 👋
I absolutely love watching your videos!
I recently purchased Ever Eden’s baby massage oil. I tried it on my face. I thought I was floating on a cloud. It is sooo lovely!
Urea is my jam! As I've learned what works for my skin I've realized that it loves urea. I still have to try a pha product!
Do you have a fav product with urea you could recommend?
Hi fellow early butterflies🦋
Hi cystir 😂♥️♥️♥️♥️
Heeeeey
Thanks for explaining these differences Cass. I was wondering if hydration and moisturization was the same or not and now I know it!
This info really helps me become a better auditor. Thank you.
I just subscribed... Not for skincare but for the chemistry!
Hello Casandra, can you talk also about hydrating your skin durin pregnacy, there are lots of products that are not allowed during this time.
Here are some pregnancy videos: dr alexis stephens - pregnancy safe skincare routine; dr sam bunting - 4 skincare tips for pregnancy; dr. whitney bowe - dermatologist on the best skin care for pregnancy; dr dray (amazon) - pregnancy safe skin care from evereden; dr shereene idriss - pregnancy skincare: dos and don’ts; dr. lindsey zubritsky - a dermatologist's guide to pregnancy skincare (morning routine) | skincare expert; doctor mama jones - 10 Pregnancy Rules Your Doctor NEEDS You To Know. Acne related: dr dray - best pregnancy safe acne products; the budget dermatologist - your safe pregnancy skincare routine + acne hacks; dr davin lim - acne during pregnancy - how to safely treat; dr. jenny liu - dermatologist review: acne treatment during pregnancy and lactation; dr. melanie palm - how to treat female acne during pregnancy
Thanks ...you are so full of facts on skin. !!! So interesting ....feel like I'm listening to a teacher
Hey Cassandra
You are just amazing!
Omg the way this clicked for me, I’m so excited to try new things for my skin!
Wow I had no idea ! In French, we use the same word for hydration and moisturization = hydratation
For now I’m using the cetaphil gentle cleanser for dry skin and the cerave moisturizing lotion for dry skin, that’s all my skincare but I would like to incorporate more products on my skin just that i don’t know what to use🙇🏻♀️
I love all your videos and the way you explain everything♥️
thank you for posting such topic as soon as i am searching for a moisturizer ❣️ its really helpful to me and i ultimately find a product for myself
Wow i’m so thankful for the information given in this video! I’ve learned so much!! ur amazing :))
Interresting fact- even tought I am acne prone, the only moisturizer that my skin tolerated is avene's cold cream with beeswax (which is chonky, as you say). Everything else irritates my atopic dermatitis and makes it come back.
I have the oily dehydrated skin . Ugh. It's hard I usually skip moisturizer. My skin is slick as heck using them. So this info is right on time
I actually requested a video on hydrating products... gurl, you are so so kind 💞 thank you for this!
I love the nitty-gritty details and science-y stuff, thank you & hope you keep it coming!
Thank you, this was very informative, I REALLY need to sort my moisturisers out. A very timely video indeed.
i use the boots hyaluronic acid serum and i love it!!
yes thats true i think the quality of the hylaroni acid is important..idk if quality is the right word.but i was using the nutrogena hydroboost sunscreen this summer and my skin is still recovering from how try it made it
Recently discovered you and absolutely love your videos. I just turned 50 years young - have hit menopause and my skin Both face and body has become super dry. What skincare routine do you recommend ?
Aaah I've been waiting for this one, thank you!
I have always underestimated moisturisers because I use so many layers of skincare but this blew my mind. Just a couple of days of adding a moisturiser made a crazy difference to my skin.
What if you speak a language that doesn't distinguish between hydration and moisturization?
i like being moist🦋✨
This is sooo super informative! Thank you, love your videos and love you’re a vegan! ❤️🙌
Thanks!
Yo! I love the Pacifica ceramide lotion! I need to get the little glass tub instead of the pump because the ingredients look better.
You are saving my skin! Thank you so much for bringing us common sense skin care videos! 🤍🤍🤍
Would love to see a video for this ❤️🙏
After the 20th time trying to figure this out I think my dry skin understands this now. Thanks Cassandra.
Can you please do a video on how to care for skin under a beard and general beard care if you know any tips

I love waking up and learning skin science while i have my coffee to start my day 💜
I wonder if you could use cooking grade sunflower oil, like the one was shown here?
@@Kiterpuss Thank you, I'll check the ingredients first.
She's a beauty!
Im always learning with you! Thank you for sharing 💗
I feel so validated! Do you know how hard it's been to find products that work for skin that is extremely oily but also feels super dry and tight under the oil slick? LOL
Love it! Super helpful as always
CASSANDRAAA IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEOOOO HUHUHU THANK U🤧💕
Thank you for being so informative. I've learned a lot from your videos how to choose properly what product to use on my sensitive skin due to psoriasis. May I also request, if you could do a review regarding Biore UV Aqua Rich spf50+ PA+++?
I believe Dr Daniel Sugai has reviewed that sunscreen.
This video is flawless. 👍
Aghhh I fkn love you😭😭 so keen to learn more and figure out a skin routine that will actually do GOOD or my skin!!😍😍😍👏
Also would love your opinion on Krave beauty. Thanks a million. ❤️
PS you are beautiful
Hello 😊😊 Do you have a suggestion for dark marks on body skin? Thank you. Another great video 👍👍
