Just buy rice from California and soak in warm water for 30 minutes before cooking. Brown rice has so much more fiber and the upsides of more fiber outweigh the minuscule amount of arsenic if you do these steps.
Just so you know the water we had in the area we lived in California was high in Arsenic so getting it from California is no guarantee of a lower level in the rice.

It's better to soak, wash, and rinse your whole grain brown rice than to sacrifice its nutritional value for white rice - especially when you consider the fact that white rice still has arsenic. Besides, we consume low levels of arsenic in many foods, including cashews , almonds, walnuts and pine nuts.
Boil your brown rice for a few minutes until the brown foamy water shows on top. Drain, and rinse and fry or complete regular cooking process. That removes most of the arsenic in the rice. Brown rice is way better and will barely affect your glycemic levels.
Some cultures parch and use heat to remove whatever is on the outside of the rice grains in a safe, heavy pot before boiling the rice, then throwing away the water afterwards. Definitely depends on culture. A diet dependent mainly on rice can be beneficial to some and not optimal for others. Culture, your body's tolerance and adaptation are key. Rice can be unhealthy for more reasons than arsenic content.
I made a comment in one of your videos about the arsenic on rice if im not mistaken. And another thing: they don't stop the milling process when they've stripped away the bran...they keep going and take the germ, too. So, in white rice, you essentially have the carbohydrate that's left after the fiber and nutrients have been removed from the grain. We add back in cheap sources of vitamins and minerals and call that "enriched".
@@karkador I hear you! And, that creates yet another dilemma: now you're eating everything that the processor put in the bag. Yikes! Basmati brown rice from California, India or Pakistan is your lowest arsenic choice. It’s also good to do your own research. I buy rice in bulk and vacuum seal it. The last rice I bought was jasmine rice from a particular area in California that had tested with the least amount of arsenic in the USA.. but as another commenter already explained it’s the form of arsenic that matters. White rice is empty calories with no nutritional value contributing to obesity, gut disease, and diabetes to name a few. I avoid it as much as possible.
Yes, soaking for 30 minutes removes 80% of the arsenic, and never buy rice from the American south. That's where the arsenic is most concentrated. Get it from somewhere like California.
This is completely untrue. There is more arsenic in fruit juice than rice. Rice does NOT need to be washed - it only needs to be rinsed if you want to change the consistency (more or less starch = more or less fluffy texture).
Rice grown in the United States has twice the amount of arsenic than Asia. Washing rice is essential for this bit the most important reason why you wash is any manufacturing contaminants from the hulling process (when the shell of the rice is taken off the grain), or milling process in the case of brown rice. The Arsenic is absorbed from contaminated water. So you can't wash it away.
I love this channel and I will keep it but..... If you read it share it after you Google it. There are so many foods with natural arsenic in them. Brown rice happens to be one. This amount will not hurt you

Consumer Reports did the testing for arsenic which is in the soil. What soil makes a big difference. Rice grown where cotton used to be grown is very high in arsenic due to bole weevil poison that was used extensively there. I won't eat brown rice either because it still has the outer covering where most of the arsenic is. This testing was done over 8 years ago so maybe something has changed? I have no faith in the industry to monitor the levels themselves. If I recall correctly, the article listed other sources of this substance which is naturally occurring but certain areas /crops were at dangerous levels. Some juices, fruit had higher levels, I believe.

Not giving up my wine! Wouldn't the alcohol kill any bad stuff?🍷❤
You wouldn’t believe all the stuff that has arsenic, including your make up. Tapwater in USA is full of it depending on the area. There is even drugs that have arsenic that the doctor prescribes you. There’s over-the-counter drugs that have arsenic.. the whole arsenic rice issue is a big hype.
Thank you❤
Hold up while i let the wine breathe and then rinse our the arsenic in it 😂
So....we should rinse our wine?
I stick to riced cauliflower it is a great substitute and low carb ❤
Hi. May I have your recipe for rice cauliflower? I've never had rice cauliflower.
Thank you so much . I did not know this . May you be blessed always ❤❤❤
Just buy rice from California and soak in warm water for 30 minutes before cooking. Brown rice has so much more fiber and the upsides of more fiber outweigh the minuscule amount of arsenic if you do these steps.
Thanks! I didn't know you could soak it that long, would've thought it would turn to mush when cooking it.
I knew about the arsenic, in both, but not the soaking time, I was rinsing mostly. Thank you for Sharing your Knowledge, I appreciate it. Stay well🙏🏽
Nope, it's still hard as little rocks 😁! @@macycharmin
Just so you know the water we had in the area we lived in California was high in Arsenic so getting it from California is no guarantee of a lower level in the rice.
@@toregenekhatun480 that’s why you do your research and find that low arsenic area of Cali that is now a rice Mecca. I wish I could remember the region and I’ve got it in my notes somewhere but you’ve got a super computer in your pocket and I’m sure you can find it.. 😊
Brown rice does contain a tiny bit of arsenic, but the levels are so low that they’re safe for consumption as long as you eat it in moderation. If you’re really worried, you can soak it overnight and boil it in five parts water to one part rice, then rinse it again in hot water before serving. That is supposed to reduce the arsenic content to 18% of the original amount.
@grovegirlforever I wonder if treating rice this way doesn't also remove valuable vitamins and minerals from it, as well as arsenic.
Thank you so much for your information😊 have an awesome weekend and take care in the Lord Jesus
@@soilmanted I would think it does.
@@macycharmin Yes me too, I would think so, but I'm not sure.
Soak over night and rinse in hot water before serving? That means you want us to eat mush and fucked up rice😂
Excellent update, Pam! Thank you very much!
I hate brown rice and rarely eat white rice, not an issue for me. Next!
If the brown rice is parboiled when you buy it then the arsenic is cooked out. Same for white rice.
There’s no such thing. There’s no way to get all of the arsenic out.
I didn’t say ALL
Cooked out? It ain’t bacteria to kill or a gas that can vaporize lol. But again no need to worry u can go about eating your brown rice anytime even without washing, Arsenic is the last of your concerns with rice 😂
Caribbean here with East Indian heritage we eat Brown rice everyday it's better than the White rice for different reasons.
Nasty
U know most Caribbeans eat white rice.
@@WhyIneedGoogleHandle Caribbean people don't eat brown rice
I'd never eat that much rice. Staying with brown rice.
Just FYI, basmati and jasmine rice from California have the lowest arsenic. I bought some brown jasmine on Amazon direct from the farm and it was out of this world wonderful. If you do a Google search, it will show you the region in California that has the low arsenic and the farmers who don’t use the water that has the arsenic in it. That’s how I found this Jasmine rice..
Thank you Pam for sharing your thoughts on brown rice. I've learned the benefit of eating brown rice and I love it and make everything I made with white rice and I'm healthier and lighter on my big feet too 😁👍🏽🦋💖🕊️
It's better to soak, wash, and rinse your whole grain brown rice than to sacrifice its nutritional value for white rice - especially when you consider the fact that white rice still has arsenic. Besides, we consume low levels of arsenic in many foods, including cashews , almonds, walnuts and pine nuts.
Auntie Pam just don’t like brown rice lol
Wow! Thanks Pam 😊
Well DANG! I never thought about brown rice having more arsenic because of the existing shell. Thank you Pam
Boil your brown rice for a few minutes until the brown foamy water shows on top. Drain, and rinse and fry or complete regular cooking process. That removes most of the arsenic in the rice. Brown rice is way better and will barely affect your glycemic levels.
No
Thank You for information ❤!
I was eating brown rice for the higher fiber content.
You should continue. I normally love her advice, but not this time.
Just for the information I adore Pam and her videos. She is a treasure. 🥰
All white rice is useless as food… even though I love that sticky white sushi rice so much. 😂
I made a comment in one of your videos about the arsenic on rice if im not mistaken. And red delicious apples have arsenic in its seeds, I believe it's arsenic, but it's just enough that makes it good for fighting cancers if you eat a few of its seeds. Thank you miss Pam for this video. So many people don't cold water wash their rice, especially Asians. Be careful in Asian restaurants. ❤
And another thing: they don't stop the milling process when they've stripped away the bran...they keep going and take the germ, too. So, in white rice, you essentially have the carbohydrate that's left after the fiber and nutrients have been removed from the grain. We add back in cheap sources of vitamins and minerals and call that "enriched".
fact! which is why I don't like this "rinse white rice m" advice. it reduces the rice back to only carbs
@@karkador I hear you! And, that creates yet another dilemma: now you're eating everything that the processor put in the bag. Yikes! Better to find a variety of brown rice you like, give it a good washing before cooking, and then you get all the nutrients, fiber, and carbs...just as they were in nature.
Only reason i eat white rice over brown rice is because, White rice cooks faster than brown rice.
It does take much longer
🤣😂
Pam, I have never heard this before today. Thank you so very much! ❤
You are so welcome!
It's not enough arsenic to hurt you. It's fine
Omg I had no idea... 😮Thanks so much Mrss ❤
Mercury in fish: did someone say arsenic?
Wow, dietitians and health nuts will push brown rice. I always wash my rice.. Thanks Pam.
Washing rice helps remove arsenic. If you buy parboiled rice you should not wash it. That will remove nutrients. The parboil removes arsenic.
yes they do and someone said it's like eating a pinecone!
You are an absolute doll! I have shared your videos with friends and on pinterest.❤ Thank you so much! I've learned so much from you in 3 weeks, I'm old school, but you should have your own magazine😂
Thank you again, I'm cooking fried Chicken the way you showed us how.
No oil, no Air fryer, sold the chicken immediately before putting in the cold pan and cooking it.
My son-in-law, came by and asked me to make that again. He put in an order for it LOL he wanted it for the following week while he's at work. So I've made it. Even though it's probably not as crispy when he's having it on his lunch break.
But my little CJ son-in-law, married my daughter ❤️ they're divorced now. But I still love the fella he's like my son.❤
He loves this ❤️😊
I didn’t think brown rice was so contaminated over white rice! ❤ Thanks for sharing this important health tip, I wash rice until the water runs clear. Blessings 🕊🕊🧂🙏🏻😇
Wow I never knew this! Thanks for sharing.
True the culttures that consume rice as a staple in their diet many live long. So I wonder why when the research shows that there is arsenic in rice better than junk food probably!! Who knows - lundberg short brown rice cooked properly is tasty! 😊
She is exhagerrating. Dont worry.
Can you really wash arsenic from rice?
Yes, soaking for 30 minutes removes 80% of the arsenic, and never buy rice from the American south. That's where the arsenic is most concentrated. Get it from somewhere like California.
Yes. Rinsing helps. Buying parboiled rice is good if you don’t want to soak or rinse.
Sadly, arsenic is also in tap water, depending on area.
Thank you for always sharing all your many tips 👏🏾
WOW THANKS Pam i never knew that ur so smart 😁👍💕
This is completely untrue. There is more arsenic in fruit juice than rice. Rice does NOT need to be washed - it only needs to be rinsed if you want to change the consistency (more or less starch = more or less fluffy texture).
True, but that's why you buy organic brown rice. Always buy organic rice. Brown or white.
I am so glad I mostly eat white rice, or Chinese fried rice. Hope you are doing well, Ms. Pam.
Thank you Pam ❤
Wow Pam! I didn't know this!.I generally get white or Jasmine rice. Thank you for the information! ♥️
Bad info. She needs to do more research 🔬
This amount will not hurt you
WOW 😮 I don’t like brown rice but this makes me feel better about it 😉
Ummmmhmmmm me too
I totally agree. I did the research and switched back to white rice which I enjoyed better. 🌹💕
Thank you for sharing this.
I go one further, and buy parboiled rice. Then, I cook it like pasta, in lots of water, until the rice gets to the right consistency. This takes even more arsenic out of the rice.
I don’t eat brown rice, but I was also unaware that rice has arsenic on its surface. I use only basmati or jasmine. I suppose I will rinse it before I cook it. Thank you Pam.
Basmati rice has a higher sugar content.
Thank you Pam, I did not know that but I do rinse my rice 😊
There is also arsenic in apple seeds and I eat the entire apple (minus the stem) every time. Even if there is a trace amount I cannot imagine you would ever be able to eat enough to die of arsenic poisoning before you die for a ruptured stomach instead
Pam, I have learned so much from you and your channel. Totally explains why I get sick after eating brown rice. GOD Bless You
Thanks, Pam! That's unbelievable! 😮 sharing with everyone!
Thank you for sharing this important information
I add flax or chia seeds to the cold water and cook them with the white rice. Adds fiber 💪🏽
Thanks Ms Pam We All Were Miss Lead Into Believing Brown Rice Is The Best Rice To Eat 😮😊
Dear Lord, I never knew this. Why do they say brown rice is healthier? 🤦🏼♀️ Ty Pam and have a nice weekend. God bless! 🥰💖✝️
Thanks again Ms Pam! ♥️
I love brown rice. It's so much better for your health. I also like the nutty flavor. Pam, I just noticed you have a new 'do in this video. (I am bad at noticing these things). It looks super cute on you! 💜🌈💐🖖🏼🐾
I wish I could have a day learning from Pam (though these videos are sooo helpful), I can’t even imagine how much I could learn in person
I adore this channel!! Your one of the cutest and smartest ladies 😊! Love your simple yet delicious recipe's 😋.!! I've never heard that about rice so this is another reason i adore YOU ❤. I'm almost 62, female, & your teaching all of us perfectly 🤗
Thank you Ms Pam I don’t even like brown rice but I wash my white rice thoroughly but don’t eat it to much anymore TYFS and be BLESSED 🤗🌻🦋
Wow, I’ve seen people this year. Watched watch the rice. Never knew why I started washing it even just yesterday, but thank you for this. I had no clue I mean come on. This is crazy and they sell it in the stores.
Love your hair❤❤❤
Thank you
I am learning so much from you thank you
❤❤❤ absolutely right
I eat both white and brown, and wash before cooking due to arsenic. I soak my brown rice for 2-4 hrs and rinse. Never knew brown rice had more arsenic until today.
Thanks for this information.
Love you Pam!! Just felt like declaring it! Your videos hold a special place in my day and my heart! Best to you!!
I never knew this😮 thank you . Ive learned so much from you ❤❤😊🎉
This is interesting. I was not aware of it. I do think it’s more of a concern with rice, or any grains, is the fighting acid that strips minerals from our bones. Neutralize this is simply soak grains over night and lemon juice or apple cider vinegar a couple tablespoons
Thank you Ms. Pam I appreciate 😊you I Never knew that
Hey, I like your hairdo, Pam! Lookin’ good!!!
But in south east asia the rice came to our home direct from paddy field. Theres no preservation on the rice
Three generations mainly cook yellow rice, have never rinsed our rice and most of my friends don't either. There are so many food products that have arsenic.
Sis. You be pulling these thumbs up out of me every time!!!!
Well, thank you for that! I always wash it, but I didn’t know about the arsenic in the brown rice. I’m with you. I won’t be eating it anymore either.. love your channel. I’ve learned so much from you and I’ve been cooking for 100 years. Keep giving us those videos. Thank you, Pam.😻
It is such a low amount that it's fine. I assume you're eating things other than rice
Ohhhh
Thanks Pam ❤
Thank you ...forced as a kid to eat brown rice 😢, so I just swallowed🤭...this info is essential ❤.. your hair looks amazing 😎
I heard that white rice has a lot of plastic 'rice' in it. Mike Adams (Health Ranger) says that Lundbergs Organic Basmati is the best out there (should still rinse it). He has his own lab. Stay healthy everybody!
God bless ❣️
As a child we pour off the water halfway through the cooking process then rinse it in cold water a couple times finished cooking.
Thanks for the information 👍.
Alway wash/drain brown rice 3-4 times till the water is clear. Then I bake it in the over rather than boil. SO nutty and delicious. White rice is like eating tissue paper -tasteless and only interesting if you add stuff to it.
❤❤❤ Thank you very much again CHEF PAM. This is what I REALLY Love about your vids. Your SHARING & CORRECTING Informations WITHOUT OFFENDING OFFENDING ANYONE. Stay HEALTHY. GREETINGS from one of your subscribers here in UAE.
Aaaaaah ..... instresting...
Thanx for this info !
(I do wash the rice though)
White rice have been striped from brown rice but brown rice is ACTUALLY better.
Pam, if you think white rice is better than brown rice, you are a rice-ist 😂
Thanks for the information. I did not know about this.
